The Arctic Monkeys are very good bordering upon great.....actually, I'd kill to be part of a band like that..but to give them the acclaim they've been receiving is not only unjustified, but it almost seems like a blatent attempt to destroy them just as they're getting started.
Yeah, the British hype machine is notorious. Everytime "the next big thing" comes around, they quickly throw up a revised "All Time" list. The Strokes' Is This It?
was placed at #7 all time before it was officially released. Oasis, The Stone Roses...the most egregious example involves The Coral. A band with heavy psycedelic influences (Donovan, Syd Barrett, etc), their debut was put at #13 on one of those lists. The record was fair, at best. Certainly uneven. With that said, British pop music fans have far superior taste than the average American pop music fan.
