Believe it or not ...

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Reuters) - An Argentine man leaped into the lion's pen during a weekend visit to the Buenos Aires zoo, challenged one of the animals to a bullfight -- and walked away with just minor cuts and bruises.

"He jumped into the lion's pen, and when the lions didn't react, he took off his jacket and egged them on," said zoo veterinarian Miguel Rivolta. "It was an act of madness."

Television footage showed Quique the lion sitting on top of 22-year-old Lucas Tomas, padding him with his paw and leaving only superficial injuries to his head, arm and chest, doctors said.

Quique was sedated with a tranquilizer dart. The would-be matador was being examined by a psychiatrist.

Man Charged In Alleged Sexual Assault On Dog
Bestiality Not Illegal In Florida

POSTED: 12:45 PM EST January 9, 2004
UPDATED: 7:22 PM EST January 12, 2004

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A man in West Palm Beach, Fla., faces charges after he was caught sexually assaulting a neighbor's dog, according to Palm Beach County deputies.

William McPhillips, 50, a registered sex offender, sexually assaulted a young mixed-breed dog according to WPBF-TV. A caretaker at McPhillips' group home saw the attack, deputies said.

"(McPhillips) noticed he was being watched," Palm Beach County Sheriff's Deputy Cassie Kovacs told the station. "He covered himself with a sheet, and then the dog got away, and then she saw (McPhillips) masturbating himself."

Kovacs said McPhillips was allegedly sodomizing the dog with a spoon, and the dog was yelping in pain.

It apparently is not the first time McPhillips has been seen performing distrubing acts with animals.

"According to the neighbors, he is always walking around with animals, kissing and licking them and everything -- cats, animals he picks up in the neighborhood," Kovacs said.

Neighbors also told Kovacs that at least one cat emerged from McPhillips' home to lie lifeless in the grass, according to the report.

McPhillips was not arrested for bestiality, only for animal cruelty and exposing himself. In Florida, it is not illegal to have sex with animals, Kovacs said.

Sounds like Sigfried just found a new partner eh?

I wonder if anyone caught that on camera. I'm sure it'd be faces of death worthy for sure...

A ban on chitlins. Southerners rejoice.
NEW: Tripas ban in effect starting today

A ban on tripas, a savory dish enjoyed across South Texas, went into effect today, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Tripas, which come from the small intestine of a cow, was declared a high-risk meat by the Agriculture Department, following the first discovery last month of mad cow disease in the country.

The USDA announced the ban two weeks ago, but it had to be published in the Federal Register before it could go into effect — a process that usually takes many weeks.

“This was on a fast track,” said Matt Baun, a USDA spokesman. “Our time frame all along was as soon as possible.”

As of today, no USDA-approved slaughterhouses would be producing tripas. Restaurants that had received the meat before today could sell their supply, Baun said.

The tripas ban is part of the USDA's aggressive campaign to deal with the case of mad cow disease in the Northwest, which was reported Dec. 9.

Other cow parts affected are the spinal cord. In addition, cow brains, tonsils and eyeballs, can only be sold for meat if the parts came from a cow less than 30 months old.

Poachers use 'Bond' car to catch rabbits

Belgian police have caught two rabbit poachers whose armour-plated getaway car was kitted out with so many gadgets it would not have been out of place in a James Bond film.

Belga news agency said on Tuesday the poachers were caught overnight with 14 wild rabbits in the back of a car they had reinforced with metal plates to stop bullets.

The car was also equipped with an automated box ready to spring tire traps to slow pursuers.

The poachers had fitted a halogen lamp on the outside to blind their prey and shielded the car's number plates with lead sheeting to avoid identification.

There was also a device to eject two old bicycles fixed on the back of the car on to the road as an obstacle to any vehicle in hot pursuit, Belga reported.

A similar thing like this happened right here in our little town. Horses are big around here, and one of the little girls that is in my daughter's class had her horse stolen or so they thought. The horse turned up a few days later, with white stuff smeared all over its butt. Then a couple days after that, a guy that manages the local arena went out in the morning to feed the horses, and found a guy naked, standing on a bench, screwing a horse. The guy ran away, and they haven't caught him yet.
I find this all quite disturbing considering all this stuff happend about 1/4 mile away from my daughter's school. SICK!!! ugh!~

14-year-old takes car during Renton test-drive

RENTON -- A 14-year-old was in custody Tuesday after he drove off in a car he had taken on a test drive.

The young man was test driving a 1996 Cadillac Seville when the Brotherton Cadillac salesman accompanying him got out to use the ATM machine at the Bank of America branch at 300 Burnett Ave. S. When he did, the 14-year-old drove off in the car.

A police officer who happened to be nearby noticed the teen ``driving erratically,'' said Renton police spokeswoman Penny Bartley, and radioed a motorcycle officer to pull him over.

The motorcycle officer spotted the car at Talbot Road South and South Grady Way, and tried to stop it. The youthful driver ignored the lights and siren and continued south on Talbot.

The motorcycle policeman pursued the car ``less than a mile, less than a minute,'' Bartley said, south on Talbot, west on South 15th Street, and other streets.

The driver stopped the car near South 22nd Place and Shattuck Avenue South and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended; but he had left the Cadillac in ``drive'' and it rolled forward, damaging a 1978 pickup.

Renton police detained the driver for felony flight, Bartley said; though other charges may be filed. She wasn't sure the incident would qualify as car theft, and the chase did not reach high speeds, though ``He probably was speeding, faster than the 25 or 30 mile-per-hour limits'' on the residential streets he was driving.

Brotherton salesman William Kelley said in 20 years in the auto business, he'd thought he'd seen everything. The youth had been at the dealership ``a couple-three hours'' and had been talking to another salesman when Kelley was asked to take him for a test drive.

Kelley said the teen had told them he wanted to test-drive the Cadillac because his mother planned to buy the car.

He had no idea the driver was only 14. ``I was flabbergasted when they told me that,'' he told the Journal. ``What does 14 look like?''

He was taken by surprise when the youth drove off, Kelley said. ``He had ample opportunity to steal a car when he was here'' at the dealership.

Skull Details Suggest Neanderthals Were Not Humans
By JOHN NOBLE WILFORD

Published: January 27, 2004

Ever since their discovery in the 19th century, Neanderthals have been like the uncomfortably odd relatives who show up at a family reunion. Should they be seated with the closest kin, sent to the back of the room with the distant cousins or tossed out as rank interlopers, despite a family resemblance?
