OT: Trailer for Deus Ex 3: Human Evolution

I loved the original game. Never played the second, and probably will never from what I've read. Hopefully the third will capture the magic of the first.

As you can obviously see, there's a huge amount of Blade Runner influence in this trailer from the lighting to the landscape to the freaking windows in the main character's apartment.

The first was amazing, the second was alright, but I'm really fearful for this one.

Doggcow 06-08-2010 12:04 AM

That looks pretty awesome. I never played the others though.

Get Deus Ex for the PC now. The first one I mean. What a classic. I wish I could play that game again for the first time.

There is a mod pack for the original, where you can play it with higher resolution textures.

cmhargrove 06-08-2010 09:13 AM

I agree - the first game was awesome. I played the demo of number two and it just fell flat.

Hopefully this one can recapture the feel of the first.

Did you play Alpha Protocol? It's getting panned by reviews, but it's a really good RPG if you can get past some clunky, and challenging combat. It's a lot like Deus Ex, in the sneaking, multiple pathways etc.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can just download the entire thing now. Man, I think I'm going to replay it again.

Haven't played Alpha Protocol yet. You've got my interests peaked.

I really like it, but if you're looking for Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, or Halo, you won't like it, as the combat or the AI isn't up to snuff.

It also runs fine on my six year old PC, and I play with my xbox controller; I mention it because the PC version is cheaper. If nothing else, it's worth a rental, but supposed the replay value is really high.

Flex Gunmetal 06-08-2010 01:12 PM

The first one was probably the best game I've ever played on PC. Hopefully it stays true to the 1st.

gyldenlove 06-08-2010 01:38 PM

I really wish they would make a new Hitman game, the first one was amazing, the 2nd one was very good, the expansions sucked, but with new graphics, better AI, bigger maps and more environment interactivity that would be an amazing game.

You know I haven't really been paying attention to this property lately. So, my first reaction was, when the hell did Square Enix aquire the rights to the franchise.

The trailer looks very pretty, but I just don't think it will have the feel of the first one. Yes the first game had some pretty high story concepts for its time, but it was the open ended gameplay that truly made it memorable.

I don't want to judge square enix too quickly, but lately they have been tending towards much more linear gameplay mechanics. If that trend continues, this game will never capture the feeling of the first one. Still, I would like to see some actual gameplay footage instead of Prerendered CGI.

Square Enix isn't developing it. They just acquired the rights to produce it in order to appeal more to Western gamers. It's still developed Eidos Montreal. I suspect that this trailer is more to capture the feel of the game then actual in game cutscenes or FMVs.

"The year is 2027 - it is a time of great innovation."

LOL wat

We'll still be trying to figure out how to stop oil from spewing in a gulf and figuring out how to sell electric cars. 2027 will look no different than 2010 beyond a little bit higher resolution TV's on the market and some slicker new cars. We'll still have yet to cure cancer and the Japanese will still be building robots that no one can afford or care about.

There will be no Halo hover jets. There will be no dudes with superhuman bionic arms. There will definitely be no useful and powerful battle robots.

"The riots continue in the streets of Detroit."

Dude, Detroit won't even have enough people to riot let alone make the news. That place will be a low tech ghost town. Not some high tech rioting metropolis.

"Corporations have more power than the government."

Well, they got that one right. Beyond that, this is a pretty silly envisioning of 2027. I'd believe it more if they just said 2127

Well thankfully it isn't a documentary.
I know all video games revolve around strictly plausable and realistic scenarios, and to imagine a different time, location, or reality is laughable.

I just think that is funny. Cool looking game and all, but...no...that's not what 2027 will look like.

I believe the problem is that this game takes place before the original game, which occurs in the 2050s. So the technology is going to be ahead of our time regardless. It doesn't take anything away from the game IMO.

**** son, this guy has already seen the future and knows for sure what it holds.

Bob's your Information Minister 06-08-2010 11:18 PM

They're sort of missing the point.

The original game was awesome because of the bull**** political intrigue - Area 51, the Illuminati, Majestic 12.

The tech was cool, but ultimately a side dish to the settings and the atmosphere.

I hope they've preserved that element. The tech does look cool, though.

The Original game was created in 1999, and takes place in 2052. It features a far more advanced society. For this game, they weren't saying "this is what it will look like in 17 years", they're saying "This is what it looked like 25 years before Deus Ex", and it does look an awful lot like that.

Context, dude. It's a prequel.

Positive reviews are pouring in.

You can complete the game without firing a bullet.

Excited about this:

Also conspiracy theories of this game haven't really changed from last game.

All the FEMA and Illuminati bull**** is still here, for better or for worse.

scorpio 08-23-2011 09:11 AM

TheReverend 08-23-2011 09:13 AM
