OT: Preordered My Sprint Evo Yesterday

Release date and pricing finally came out. Drops June 4th, $199 with a 2-year plan. Looks like it's going to cost an extra $10 on the monthly bill to go to 4G, but I'll have to wait on that because it doesn't look like 4G is going to be available in NYC until this fall. Not thrilled with switching to over to Sprint either, but take a look at this masterpiece:

Preorder has already started at Best Buy and Raido Shack. I'm so fired up for this thing.

It looks cool, but I always stay away from the first version of anything because the second and third models, often by the same companies, are more streamlined and superior. I also like to wait for technologies to proliferate a bit before going into one. I'll stick with my droid and give 4G a chance to get going before I go there.

Normally, I would agree with you, but my current phone is on its last legs and I'm in the market, so decided to take the plunge. This thing is so packed with features, I'm going to love playing with it for the few months.

Pretty excited about video chat capabilities, HDMI out, and 8mp camera in particular. Also excited to check out the android platform.

what does your phone bill cost with something like that? I have 2 phones and my plan and i pay just below 100.

The plan I will end up with will cost me about $80/month once I add 4G onto it. Now, if I decide I want to have the ability to turn it into a hotspot as well, that will run anotehr $30/month. I'm pretty disapointed with how high that add-on is. I'm hoping it will come down in the first few months if there aren't a lot of takers.

do you guys watch survivor all-stars? What phone was the one they had last night? Was it this phone?

Right there with ya brother. Preordered yesterday at the BB in parker.

CANT WAIT for this phone. I had the HTC Hero (which turned out to be garbage, imo), so I'm hoping this phone will be a home run. IF NOTHING ELSE, it'll give me an 8mp camera, fm radio on the go, and the 720p recording capability.

4G isn't going to be available here, either, until the fall. BUT, the extra ten bucks isn't a big deal to me, since it also gives you an unlimited download capability (especially good if you decide to tether or turn the phone into a hotspot), and my plan will STILL be a lot cheaper than Verizon or ATT with similar plans.

The best part about sprint, is the all mobile included with any of the plans 69.99 and above. Basically, ANY CALL to a mobile number is free. Doesn't use any of your plan minutes. That's pretty amazing.

This phone is going to be SOOOOO ****ING SWEET!!! 4.3 inch screen seems big but after holding an HD2 it's really not too bad.

I also can't wait to rub this in my iphone loving friend's face.

I read on an android forum somewhere that there's a hotspot app, and you SHOULD be able to download it (ten bucks i think?) and get the same capability.

That would be great.

here's a bunch of articles talking about it...but I think my initial statement might be incorrect. NOT SURE if the Evo is going to have the new 2.2 froyo or not :( I thought it was getting shipped with 2.1.

No biggy, I won't really want to turn it into hotspot until I get 4G, so I have some time. Would really like to eventually kick my Time Warner bill to the curb though, but I either need the app or I need the cost to come down on the Sprint plan to make it worth it.

Boobs McGee 05-15-2010 02:17 AM

ps just thought of this...it's probly common knowledge, but if you buy the phone from Best Buy, you get the instant 100 rebate, so the phone costs you 199 at the store. Instead of waiting for the mail in

i4jelway7 05-15-2010 04:34 AM

how do you pre-order it? do you have to go to the actual store for this? i went to bestbuy.com and couldn't find where you can pre-order it at

HILife 05-15-2010 09:06 AM

Evo looks like a good phone. I currently have the Droid with Verizon and would like to have Evo, but don't want to go back to sprint.

Yeah, you have to go to the store. They aren't doing online preorder.

You just go to phone sales area at your store, and tell them you want to pre order the evo. They'll charge you $50, in the form of a gift card (which is used later towards your purchase), and give you some paperwork you need to bring back the day the phone drops.

Flex Gunmetal 05-15-2010 11:18 AM

I was looking at these. T-Mo and my old G1 are pissing me off. The G1 was kinda neat until I realized how goddamn slow it is w/o an app killer and clearing the cache every time I browse.

Doggcow 05-15-2010 02:12 PM

4g is a total gimmick right now. The coverage is almost non-existent :P

Clearwire and Sprint will have it in most major cities by the end of this year, but the major selling point of this phone for me isn't really the 4G, it's that the phone is a total monster, and I'm also a fan of the Android platform.

Never got into the cutting edge phone craze.

What all does it do?

TheReverend 05-15-2010 04:35 PM

Just read up...

How did I miss all this?

I've been playing bejeweled on mine for almost a decade (serious)
