Asomugha takes Woodsons adivice?

A fluff piece about how Asomugha talked to Woodson who talked him into signing his tender. It got me to thinking when he said quote, " I won't say what he said but you can figure it out." Didn't Woodson get accussed of not sticking his nose into plays that last yr on the Franchise? Were there not some grumblings by Raiders fans they felt he was playing to not get hurt?

I'm starting to wonder if maybe you don't get a players best when they are on the franchise tag. It almost makes more since for them to play just good enough to still be a valuable FA, but make sure you don't play hurt etc, or get hurt.

Here's the full article.

NAPA — Nnamdi Asomugha said he sought out the advice of people he respected before deciding to come to training camp and signing his exclusive free agent tender.

That included former teammate Charles Woodson, the Green Bay cornerback who in the same situation sat out an entire training camp in Napa and showed up the week before the regular season began in 2004.

"I'm not going to tell you what he said, but you can probably figure it out," Asomugha said.

The cornerback signed the nearly $9.8 million deal when he arrived just before midnight Wednesday, guaranteeing his salary for the season. He cannot sign a long-term deal until after the season.

If he were to be franchised again next year, the Raiders would be obligated to increase his salary 20 percent, giving him a chance to make $22 million over two seasons. Of course, if he were to be hurt, Asomugha could lose millions.

With that in mind, he would have preferred a larger sum of guaranteed money to sign a long-term deal.

"When I was talking to players, they were surprised that I came," Asomugha said. "At the same time, they weren't, because they know it's not about money for me. I really want to win games. That's a big part of why I'm here."
