What are the spots to hit in Vegas?

My wife and I are heading out to Vegas on Christmas morning and wondered if anyone who has been there frequently or even lives there could give me some insight into some really fun things to do. Everything I find online is being all hyped up so I was looking for an inside track.

A good MSNBC article on the top 10 free things you can do:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5396173/

Also, any of the Cirque De Soleil shows are worth seeing, especially O or Mystare.

Have fun!

Depending on what you want to do. I just got back from partying like a rock star out there (my card playing suffered) ...I recommend Tao, Pure and Ghost Bar...a little costly, but fun as hell.

I heard Ka was pretty awesome, too.

Just walking along from hotel to hotel exploring the different ones is a lot of fun; especially Belagio, Venetian, Paris, Caesars Palace, New York New York and Treasure Island. If it's your first time, don't forget to catch the free water show in the evenings out front of Belagio, the free show out front of Treasure Island (usually a pirate show) and the valcano in front of Mirage. Take a Gondola ride at the Venetian (not free...but, I think it would be romantic ;D). The Comedy Stop can be fun and it's affordable. Depends on who's playing there. Oh, and make sure to take the wife "WINDOW SHOPPING" at the mall inside the Venetian and inside Caesar's Palace. I say window shopping because it's all like shopping at Rodeo Drive...very expensive. Although, there are a few not so pricey places here and there.

The Hard Rock Hotel is off the strip but it's a lot of fun to check out. Lots of memorabilia (and I won $500 in slots there once :)) Also, if she likes spa's...they have an AWESOME spa there! Oh yeah...I had a mani/pedi and a massage there once....yup...makes you feel just BEAUTIFUL!!

Most of the hotels there will have a "coupon book" that they will either just give you or you can ask for when you check in. Sometimes you can find some really good discounts and deals in there for the shows.

If you want to go with a little less ordinary, hit Freemont street, I went there and had a better time than I did on the strip. Not as crowded, friendlier atmosphere, and I won like $450 on the BlackJack table at Fitzgeralds.

"Las Vegas on 25 cents a day."

Get the 3/4 lb hot dog at Westward Ho, but I heard they raised the price to about $1.39.

My favorite place on the strip is Casino Royale. By Harrah's and IP, yeah it's kind of a tiny dump, but they've got low table minimum craps with 100x odds.

There is a car museum that's cool if you like that stuff. If you haven't been to Vegas before it's sensory overload.

I just toured that museum for the first time last week. Been to the IP 20 times and never bothered to take it look. Pretty sweet collection.

What's this story you are referring to? Never heard it.

I had a plan to buy this car after my tour. I tossed $100 bucks all over a roulette board thinking that if something hit I'd roll the proceeds over and over until I had the 75k to walk upstairs and buy this sweatheart. It didn't work.

took this off the net.

He raised accusations of being sympathetic to Nazis owing to his collection of Nazi memorabilia in the casino, including a painting of himself dressed in a Nazi uniform (captioned "to Adolf from Ralphie"), a painting of Hitler with the reverse caption, and the cars of Nazi leaders. On April 20 in 1986 and 1988, he hosted birthday parties for Adolf Hitler at his casino in Las Vegas which featured bartenders in T-shirts reading "Adolf Hitler — European tour 1939-45

The other rumor was the the IP was built in the shape of a swastika, which is false.

Wild...Shaped like a swastika? weird. One thing I like about the IP is that I can actually find my way out the door like alot of the other casinos. ;D I saw some BS video on the mane awhile back about DIA having Nazi connections and it being shaped like a swastika. It's somewhere in the war forum along with 500 other crazy conspiracy theories.

Back to the topic at hand...One casino I wouldn't recommend going to is Hooters. My buddy and I stumbled in there and man did we get ripped off. The gals weren't even cute. Really that is the only thing Hooters had going for it anyway. Not sure what Casino that building use to be but it looks like all they did was change the sign and add a nasty girls in orange shorts to the casino floor.

I thought the tram thing was cool except nobody rides it. Been to Vegas several times over the years and never bothered to get on it. If they extended that thing the airport than it would get used. We could then avoid the jackass taxi drivers who try and stick you on the drag to get you to a hotel that isn't even close to that road. Some jackass got me stuck in traffic there and rang up a $20.00 cab ride. I didn't say anything as we sat in traffic. Once we got to my destination I told him (well you turned a $10.00 cab ride into $20.00) here is $10.00 and a $2.00 tip. He looked at me and I slammed the door shut and walked off. :)

I heard the same thing. I just can't see the old stinky IP holding her ground. She really does stink. I was staying at a timeshare right behind there and everytime we'd roll up on the IP there would be this incredibly bad smell. ;D

Pretty soon they'll be another table with $10-$50 minimums. I remember sitting at the IP for hours and hours with $50.00. Heck that can be blown within minutes at some casinos.

smalltowngrll 12-26-2006 03:10 PM

Hey, we should all plan a vegas trip during the offseason! Would make for a good opportunity to pass the slow offseason time! ;D

They did book mini KISS at the bar up front there...Although there is some controversy in that the drummer left and formed tiny KISS

Meck77 12-26-2006 06:18 PM

what the heck! I wouldn't say there is anything mini about one of them....woah

I guess I'm just not much of a vegas guy. I can deal with it for about 24 hrs and then I'm usually ready to roll outta there. I wish I could have visited Vegas back in the Rat Pack type days. Seems like it would have been real cool then. Too damn commercial now.

So STG...are we invited to attend the Wedding? ;D Or do we need to keep you and BMF from hitting one of those chapels after a few drinks?

Vegas weddings. ugh...No offense to anyone that has gotten married there and I'm sure there are better places to do it than others but my buddy got married at the Paris hotel. I was in the wedding party. I remember going up an elevator and being shoved into a cheezy looking room that looked like a funeral home. As soon as we exited that room there was another group of cattle..err I mean another wedding party coming up the elevator going into the same room. I watched some cheezy wedding in the chapel and as soon as they kissed one another we were shoved into the chapel. Basically it was an assembly line of weddings.

But hey an offseason Vegas trip sounds like a good plan. Just don't ask me to go to any weddings. ;D

BMF Bronco 12-27-2006 12:42 PM

Sass, you stirring the pot again?!

smalltowngrll 12-27-2006 01:06 PM

LOL

Sassy, oh you are bad.

Meck77 12-27-2006 01:10 PM

Fitzgerald's used to have .50 cent tap beers. They finally kicked us out because we stayed there 22 hrs and were passing out at the bar. We'd go over and win some money playin' the field on the craps tables, we'd get tired of that and go blow it on .50 cent beers. I beat the living sh*t out of a guy out front, he said an unkind word about the Marine Corps, and he found out why we're the greatest fighting force on the face of the earth. Cops threw me on the hood of their car, found out I was a Marine and let me go.

Vegas Rules.

You've got that right! Ha!
I was ONLY referring to BMF and STG ;D
LOL!
Of course, Meck, you two have been together longer than STG/BMF and Hogan and I put together! ;) You and Jess could be the first to set an "example" for us "younger" couples!

smalltowngrll 12-27-2006 05:23 PM

Well, it's best to NOT talk about weddings until at least the decision has been made to get married. Until then...A Vegas weekend of gambling and drinking with the group would be lots of fun!!
