I'm in beginning stages of putting together a home theatre surround sound and needed some advice. I want more than the box set they sell for 300 dollars, but I don't want to blow the bank either. I have bought a YAMAHA HRT-5940 6.1 receiver for $299.99.

So now, I need speakers and a subwoofer. What have you guys used, or what would you recommend. Someone told me HSU sub's are really good. I don't know really what to look for, or anything like that. Need Help!!

I hear they are a good product, any personal experience with them??

I have owned them since the 70's 3 different pairs and my computer now has klipsch they have always been quality and always will be.

yamaha and klipsch are a good match. the sound of yamaha does well with klipsch, for entry system look at the rf/32 rb/32 rc/32. I think that might be a bit more speaker than your willing to buy, so potentially look at the rb15 series stuff. I sold the stuff for a long time. I've worked for klipsch. That amp you have i would recommend klipschs entry level stuff with it, but dont waste your time with the best buy klipsch stuff. go to a small shop, have them throw you a good deal "ask for it" klipsch is a 40% product, meaning 40% margin, the samller stores will sell it from 30-35 no problem, if you can hit 30 taKE IT. HSU makes a good sub, i'm not keen on klipsch subs ( too boomy) I would pick up a paradigm sub if you can swing it, pdr8 is around 350, figure 50% margin, so if you can get $250 thats a fair deal. don't neglect your cables. You don't have to do monster, but don't let anyone trick you into thinking they don't matter. finally get a decent power filter. monster makes a good one with what they call power stage 1 for about a $100.

I would put polk ahead of bose but if your looking for cute stuff bose is the way to go as far as subs paradigm is excellent but as far as boomeyness you can get a sub with level controls to set it anywhere you want and compensate for odd shaped rooms.

I have a home theater system by EGO, great system made in England trouble is they don't make them anymore. They are really amazing.

never understood why people dont use more PA in homes ... its not that much more cash and so much better... I sing for a band so had to have nice PA ... but for not much more $ you can get something so much better then homestero stuff ... friend of mine even used peavey in a car and its INSANE .... but as far as house .... pa sounds better then home stero stuff and with a nice used 16chan board you never run outa things or idea of thing to run into it ... like i have 3 tvs 4 pcs xbox 360 dvd player ipod all ran into my board but it just owns home stero ...

Sure it gets loud but a PA system isn't designed for that not to mention the quality.

depends on how much you put into your PA really ... like for home i use my peavey with 4 sp4s placed all thru house ... main room has 2 of the sp4s an 2 roland monitors .... used to PA i used for my band ... but sence i bought this

the peavey became the home system just cuz its pain in the ass to move ...

i'm very biased. I know what I like and I know what I don't like. Everything out there is pretty good. Some things have definate strengths over others. If had an unlimited budget my tastes could be satisfied with completely different things.

With that, my own preferences. I don't like BOSE cube styled speakers. The 901's are a good speaker but, you'll need more amp than you can afford to make them sound right.

Bose is very bright on the high side, lacks mid range, and the bottom end I feel is flat. Women like small speakers and for what they are they sound good. I would do a paradigm cinema series package in a heartbeat over any small bose setup. And, it's roughly 2/3 the price.

I'm selling my Klipsch setup, and replacing it with Paradigm Studio 100's. I'm selling my Yamaha RXV1600 and replacing that with a seperate amp/preamp, that hasn't been decided on.

I don't recommend using PA equipment in your home system if your into sound quality.

So, once againg this is my personal recommendation, and I have been in this industry for quite some time. I've built custom systems in dorm rooms and multi-million dollar homes. So, i have some experience in this. It really comes down more to what you want. You do get what you pay for. Power filters in my experience have really opened up the top and bottom of the musical range in my experience. I will never go without one again. It's a very inexpensive way of making a good set of speakers really come to life.

Hm, alright..I'm biased to..a lot..I hate BOSE.. don't know if they developed some good speakers by now, but last time I checked (a few years ago) all they had were ****ty sounding totally overpriced absolutely un-linear but kinda nice and cute looking ****boxes.

I can't give you any tips Sodak, as I used mostly European brands, and now switched to www.nubert.com, a small local manufacturer. I did check out some Klipsh however and I like them.

@ TDmvp..I figure studio monitor systems would be a lot more suited for home use than PA systems. In fact, I plan to acquire some Genelecs monitors for home theatre use (and some B&W Nautilus speakers for a more "traditional" pure stereo setup).
