USA down by 12

USA half way through the third is now down by 12 and Greece is throwing up prayers and Zeus is guiding them in. Melo has been playing well but we have been missing free throws left and right and they can not miss any shot.

Good. USA basketball gets put in its place once again.

You can put these two teams together 100 times and you might see this three times. The U.S. no matter what the outcome is still the most talented team in the world. Still a quarter to go though, plenty of time to establish some American dominance.

on a side note and I truly hate to mention it but in any international competiton the U.S. gets screwed by the refs.....Haters straight haters

ah, the favorite ref excuse.. though, to be honest, I catched only glimpse of the game so I can't tell if they have really been screwed. But then again the loser team's fans usually blame the refs..

I agree with that for the most part and I am not making any excuses for the US team when I say this, but the international officiating is AWFUL in regards to the US. It's been mentioned by many sportswriters that the refs will nail the NBA "superstars" with the ticky tack fouls that shouldn't be called.

That said, we should have won and it's disappointing.

I watched the whole game. Lack of defense on the pick & roll and missed free throws killed us, not the refs.

What an A$$. THis team actually seemed to want to be there and played like they always should have since 92. Our place should be 1st. Congrats to Greece, but damn! This sucked.

watermock 09-01-2006 07:47 AM

Carmello came to play. sounds like their 3's wouldn't drop and they threw rocks from the free throw line. Losing to Grease...uggg...

Smiling Assassin27 09-01-2006 07:49 AM

that's what happens when you don't have a michael redd or a ray allen available, mr. colangelo.

You do realize that Redd was supposed to be on the team but took the summer off because he was getting married, don't you?

Mile High Shack 09-01-2006 08:16 AM

yup. the point remains, however. 3 point shooters were lacking on this team and it came back to bite us.

RhymesayersDU 09-02-2006 07:59 AM

We didn't lose because of 3-point shooting.

We lost because of a lack of team defense that comes from only being together for 3 weeks, and we had a bad shooting night from the free throw line.

The FT's are unexcusable. These guys have to drain them. If they had made even half the FT's they missed, they beat Greece. As for the team defense, it will improve as this squad plays together in the upcoming summers.
