Geek League Year II - The Revenge of the Nerds!
For the discussion of how Mtbronco is going DOWN this year as defending champ in the geek. :redpunch:  :garcia:
So, lets discuss strategy here. I'll post my roster as soon as we finish the draft this evening. |
I recommend you all pick kickers first.
|
Enough of this target on my back!! You all better watch out, suckas.
|
Well here is my team...drafted first:

Ummm, not sure about this draft, but here it is:

Damn 56k connection. Tried posting a poll and the damn connection crashed again before I put all the options. Aargh!!!!
After I win these leagues this year I'm getting cable or DSL. |
Well, it was one for the books. Its official, I hated my draft. And drafting in the 6 spot is entirely horrific since all my picks got vultured before I took them.
Methinks I am going to pay DEARLY for picking Peyton over both McGahee and Dom Davis in the first... Here's my horrible lineup... QB's P Manning J Harrington RB's D McAllister D Staley R Dayne D Foster R Brown WR's S Parker E Moulds Roy Williams Jimmy Smith M Clayton TE's E Johnson J Putzier K D Akers Def D Cardinals D Eagles I forsee a 7-6 campaign and just missing the playoffs... :vermeil: By the way, Jack, you are never again invited to the geek league with the way you draft. Congrats on a great lineup especially considering you were in the #1 spot! !Booya! |
I had my high dollar CBS draft yesterday. I was very pleased with the results and will post them on another thread.
I got stuck in the ten hole today, so I decided to try something different this time around. I attempted the rarely seen (because its so stupid) strategy of leading off with two wideouts. Here are the gory details: 1-10 - Randy Moss WR - Eeeewwww! 2-15 - Torry Holt WR - Torry Holt will destroy the world this season. 3-34 - Warrick Dunn RB - I was hoping Tatum or the perennially underrated CuMart would slide to this spot. The queasy stomach and the feelings of, "Oh my God, what the hell have you done" begin. 4-39 - JJ Arrington RB - Oooh, doesn't that starting RB tandem just strike fear into you! 5-58 - Ashley Lelie WR - Homer pick completes my WR Axis of Evil. 6-63 - Ricky Williams RB - Fitting that it was shortly after 4:20 when I made this selection. http://www.georgecoghill.com/gc02/im...y-williams.png 7-82 - Drew Brees QB - Missed on my boy Jake Delhomme, so I settled for the Mole Man. 8-87 - Reuben Droughns RB - Still looking to shore up the fugly RB corps. He's starting for the moment. I need him to hold the job for about five weeks. 9-106 - Patriots D - Just missed the Panthers and Bills, but can't complain about getting the Champs. 10-111 - LJ Smith TE - Should break out this year with Chad Lewis gone. 11-130 - Brandon Stokley WR - 68 receptions, 1077 yards, 10 TDs last season. Not too bad for round 11. 12-135 - Mewelde Moore RB - The positives: Mewelde might be the best back on the Vikings roster. Mewelde is a cool name. The negatives: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/card...tosized141.jpg This is the only picture I could find of Mike Tice where he's not actually picking his nose. 13-154 - Kurt Warner QB - Sensing that I have totally screwed the fantasy pooch, I now call upon divine intervention. God roots for Kurt Warner, ipso facto, God is now rooting for the Yah Mules. Bow down, pagans. http://www.southernsubstandard.com/s...od-150x147.png 14-159 - Ryan Longwell K - Good luck charm kicker. Longwell has handled the kicking chores for 80% of the Mule Teams over the last decade. People freak out over the frozen tundra nonsense and assume he'll be in a blizzard during the FFL playoffs every year. 15-178 - Rod Gardner WR - Carolina has two good wideouts in Smith and Colbert, but they're both small. Gardner has good size. Hopefully he'll flourish in a professional environment. 16-183 - Chris Cooley TE - H-back scored six TDs last year. 17-202 - Brandon Jacobs RB - Talk of Giants camp. I hope to see him as a goalline back. Definitely not putting the whammy on Tiki, who I respect immensely, but this kid is good enough to start and produce right now. To quote Charles Barkley, "Bad team, man, bad ****ing team." I can't say I recommend starting your draft with two WR, but I do expect Moss and Holt to out perform everyone else this year. I especially like that Holt's week 16 matchup is San Francisco at home. I was really hoping that Jordan, Martin or Bell would slide to me at 3-34. God bless Warrick Dunn, but good lord, that's a number three back, not a number one back. Maybe JJ Arrington will catch lightning in a bottle right away. His coach loves him and he's in a division chock full of crummy defenses. Buffalo soldier troddin’ through the land, wo-ho-ooh! Said he wanna ran, then you wanna hand, Troddin’ through the land, yea-hea, yea-ea. http://www.mickeyz.net/images/ricky_williams_thumb.jpg Come home, Ricky, all is forgiven. |
That may be one of the funniest posts I've ever read Slap.

My WR's are the obvious week link... last year though I had Mushin Muhammed and Joey Galloway and ended up pretty damn good!!! Week 1 M Bulger A QB (Top 3 QB IMO... 4000 yards and 30 TD's!) K Jones A RB (Top 10 RB... 1500 total yards and 10 TDs) W McGahee A RB (Top 5 RB... 1800 total yards and 15 TDs) W Parker A RB (Nice for a couple weeks... 380 and 3 TDs) A Boldin A WR (Top 20 WR, 1100 yards and 7 TDs) L Evans A WR (Top 30 WR, 900 and 7...a drop off) T Gonzalez A TE (Top TE in a high bonus position. This pick makes my draft!!! 50 receiving yards gets me a 3 pt bonus. 100 gets me 6!!! TG is good for 9 and 9!) M Vanderjagt A K (IMO the top kicker in the draft. High kick pct. lots of PAT's. Good range and will hit quite a few from 40-49. Losing points from a kicker sucks!!!) D Panthers A D (was really hoping to get the Ravens D. They went a little earlier than I thought they would. Defenses are drastically underrated in FF. Not very many positions can score 20-25 pts... there are atleast 3 or 4 defenses that do it every weekend!) B Griese RS QB (Going for the A-hole award! lol) L Johnson RS RB (Priest goes down I walk with the title!!!) L Toefield RS RB (Taylor hasn't been injured for a few years, but he's still a modest risk) T Duckett RS RB (Scores TD's and backs up a 178 lb RB. Dunn's never been hurt and I hope it stays that way, but I'll score big if he does.) B Lloyd RS WR (Drafted late...#1 WR but has a poor QB. Could go for 800 and 8 TD's, but that's best case scenario) D Mason RS WR (Same as above...worse QB though!) G Lewis RS WR (#2 on a good passing team with a good QB. He could easily go for 800 and 6 TD's.) D Cowboys RS D (I'm thinking they could be a top 5 fantasy D. They can get to the QB and that will lead to turnovers...just not on Thanksgiving day!....btw, DeMarcus Ware is a BEAST!!!) Thanks for the great draft everyone... good luck! |
Trade offered Pez... Foster and Jimmy Smith for Duckett and Evans. Lets deal!
|
Hmm, the Two WR strategy would have worked like a charm in my Diamond League. I guess the flex player in this league was my undoing.
I picked fifth in my Diamond League yesterday. Had I chosen to go with Moss and Holt in the first two rounds, I still had Steven Jackson, Curtis Martin and Lamont Jordan available in the third round. Fred Taylor, Dunn, Arrington, Sarge and Chris Brown were still on the board for my pick in round five. Larry Johnson and Cedric Benson still on the board in round six. I'm happy with Edge over Moss, though. |

Bulger (avg 20 pts per game) McGahee (avg 18 pts per game) K. Jones (avg 16 pts per game) Gonzo (avg 16 pts per game) (100 yards receiving alone score 16!!! Boldin (avg 10 pts per game) Evans (avg 10 pts per game) L.Johnson (avg 12 pts per game as flex) Vandercrack (avg 10 pts per game) Carolina (avg 12 pts per game) If you thought your team could score over 120 points on avg you'd be talking trash instead of hiding!!! :boxing: Now bring it strong or don't bring it at all! |
A bit generous with those point totals don't you think?

Which one? You have to figure...bonus points! If Tony Gonzalez goes for 100 yards and a TD that's 22 points! If Kevin Jones runs for 100 catches 4 passes for 30 and scores 1 TD. That is 22 points! I don't think I splurged on any of them... in fact I think I was pretty fair and perhaps shorted some a bit. Bulger is projected to have 4300 yards passing and 28 TD's. IMO, that's right on with the yards and low on the TD's. Every single person that's been to a Ram camp has said the same thing... they are sharp and it's rare that a pass touches the ground. Also he's shown that he's not afraid to run in the preseason and could have a couple scores on the ground! He's also probably the 2nd or 3rd most likely QB to throw for 300 which gives an extra bonus! You think Boldin isn't good for 900 yards and 7 TD's? You think that Evans can't match his rookie year #'s... well that one is kind of iffy b/c of Losman, but the rest of them are pretty damn close. I've been through this rodeo before brah... I know the deal!!! |
BTW, Cry for me Vermeil was on the tube last night and said that LJ would get his fair share of carries. Insiders hear it will be to the tune of 10-15 touches a game. No reason to think he won't avg. 4.5 yards or better per carry!!! Also no reason to think he won't go for 7 or 8 TD's. Last year he had 9 TD's in 120 carries! So figure about every 13 or so touches he's good for a score. 160-220 total touches on the season. 4.5 per touch (low ball no?) gives him 720-1100 total yards. One TD every 13 touches would give him 12-16 TD's. Lets say he has 800 yards and 12 TD's. That gives him his 12 per game pretty easily once you figure in bonuses. Put it to you this way. He had 860 yards and 11 TD's in 142 touches last year!!!
Is it me or has nobody counted on bonuses or used them before??? |
God damnit! Oskie is a chit talker. Hey B-Man, let's talk chit where I can participate bro. I'm itching for FF chit talk and I can't get any going in the O-Mane league!
B-Man's team is very strong IMO. |
