Another New Mock - 2 Rounds, 8/25

http://northwestscouting.com/whats_new.html

Denver slots:
6. Denver from Washington - DE Mathias Kiwanuka, Boston College
23. Denver - OL Davin Joseph, Oklahoma
55. Denver - DB Michael Huff, Texas

I like Kiwi alot, he's my no. 1 overall ranked prospect, the other two I would be screaming about. Joseph is a good player but we could have done alot better with Darnell Bing still on the board, as well as Orien Harris, Derek Hagan, Pat Watkins and Eslinger (since we are weaker on the inside of the line than the outside). Huff is a bad pick in round 2, we dont need anymore damn corners and Blackmon is a better corner who is still there even if we went that route. In Round 2, sitting right there, I wouldnt hesitate to take Avant assuming we didnt take Hagan at the end of round 1.

Thanks for the update, SpringStein.

It wouldn't shock me at all to see us take OL with one of the first rounders, and follow that up with a second one in round 2.

I think we need to shore up the lines in this draft and possibly the RB and WR position if Bell and Watts dont pan out. Ideally they both bust out of their funks and we can focus almost solely on the lines unless some real stud falls.

Ballhawk 08-29-2005 06:03 PM

I really hope that Jake has the type of year that will allow us to avoid the QB position altogether next year, maybe a vet to compete with BVP.

I really think we are set at DE now. JE and EE give us two solid if unspectacular players at the position. The draft will really hing on what we do with Pryce, Brown, Warren and Dorsett after this year. I am hoping that Warren breaks out and signs long term for a modest amount, good money but less than top 10 at position. Hopefully Clevland experience makes him appreciate Denver and make him want to call this home. I doubt we pay Brown the big money because injury will always be a concern, but who knows. If Dorsett breaks out this year we may lose him if we pay Warren.

If Palepoi breaks out we will have 3 good DEs and let us concentrate on Oline. Maybe going OT, Bing, G with the first three picks.

If Watts does not turn a corner this year Hagen would be a consideration with 1B here also.

I thought Huff was a S. No?

My bad. I guess he is. I havent seen him much but he didnt really catch my eye. I think there are better prospects still on the board. Denver really needs to continue accumulating draft picks for 2006. Hopefully we can make a deal for Pierce for a 5th or higher. Just keep accumulating picks. This should be a pretty good draft, almost as rich as 2004. Very deep along the lines which is just our luck. Hopefully we can get up to around 10 picks in the first 5 rounds. We already might have a chance at 8. 2 in round 1, 1 in round 2, likely 2 in round 3 because i think we will get a high compensatory for Hayward and Herndon's combined impact, esp. if Hayward has a Berry esque season playing next to those DTs and prolly a later compensatory such as a 6th or something for Kennedy. We got 2 in the 4th due to the Redskins trade. And if Kenoy plays really well, that compensatory sixth could bump up to a 5th. That would put us squarely at 9 over the first 5 rounds. Just give me another pick or two in the first 5 rounds and if we play our cards right on draft day we can totally remake the roster without spending alot of cash in FA.

We will prolly not select a single CB or LB. Maybe at most 1 CB. Depending on the progress of Browner and LeSueur we wont have to worry about Safety either although if Bing falls like he did in this projection you gotta jump on it. God willing, Watts will come through this season so we dont have to tie down more resources at WR. Just get us about 45 for 600 Darius and I'll feel comfortable passing on WR altogether until Day 2. The Putz needs to do something big as well. And Bell. These three are absolutely key. All three have to step up, prolly most importantly Bell and Watts. If Bell continues to falter, I wouldnt be opposed to spending Washington's pick on Lendale White, depending on who else is available. He has the power for our inside runs, with great vision and underrated speed. He is much more consistent, although less explosive than Bush. He is a jackhammer, a real talent. Hopefully the young trio above performs well so we can just focus on the lines. Ideally, the first three picks should be, in some order, OT, DE and DT. Get us a real beast guard in FA to take over for Cooper, slide Hamilton to center and hope Myers is ready by that point and we are good to go. You get 9 or 10 picks in the first five rounds in a fairly deep draft, it shouldnt be that hard to find 3 quality first year contributors. Hell we are prolly going to get at least 2 quality contributors this year in Darrent Williams and Foxworth and this was a **** draft year. We can get 3 or 4 guys, prolly the latter to help us out from Day 1 from our 2006 class just based on sheer numerical probability.

hey socal what do you think about Greg Olsen..I h ave seen some tape and everyone is saying he is the next best thing to Mercedes Lewis...

Mr. Trout 08-30-2005 01:59 AM

We are gonna get some bad ass comp picks for heyward and herndon...I am a believer in keeping your developed talent but we can fill the holes as long as we dont take any more douch bag running backs in the third round...denver always f ing boggles my mind on draft day, hopefully next year they can make us all happy.

Mr. Trout 08-30-2005 02:01 AM

Since Spikes is getting cut...i am naming myself my adopt a bronco cuz i could make this team..i am all league intramural biatches..

Hercules Rockefeller 08-30-2005 04:12 AM

Play has almost 0 bearing on comp picks, even though the league claims contract, play, and postseason awards are the criteria used. The contract is the best indicator of what comp pick a team will receive. Herndon should not eligible for consideration because he was not a UFA.

SoCalBronco 08-30-2005 11:17 AM

So what do you think we will get for Hayward and Kennedy, Herc?

And yes Mr. Trout, Greg Olsen is the next great Miami TE. He should be dynamite this season. The coaches cannot stop talking about him.

Mr. Trout 08-30-2005 11:43 AM

If we got third rounders for Berry and Gold I'm thinking we should get third or fourth rounders at least.

BlitzingDog 08-31-2005 08:11 PM

SoCal, What are Olsen's numbers like? I know he is big and a good blocker right? But what about running with the ball and his speed!

I dont have any 40 times for greg, but he is pretty fast and athletic. His size/weight is 6'5 252. I dont think there is a player that Coach Coker has gushed over more this offseason than Greg Olsen. I just put up an article on Olsen in the 2006 Draft Miami Hurricanes thread in this forum that talks more about him. Coker says he is the best TE in the country.
