Marines (female) Killed in Iraq
Like the article states there are no front lines in Iraq. Anyone and everyone is in constant danger over there. This is a horrible waste of life!!!
Suicide bomb attack kills six troops in Iraq
By Luke Baker
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide car bomb attack on a U.S. Marine vehicle in the city of Falluja killed six American troops in one of the deadliest single assaults on U.S. ground forces in
Iraq, the U.S. military said on Friday.
President Bush vowed insurgents in Iraq would be defeated.
"The way ahead is not going to be easy," Bush told a White House news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari.
"The enemy's goal is to drive us out of Iraq before the Iraqis have established a secure, democratic government. They will not succeed," said Bush.
A U.S. official said two Marines were killed and 13 wounded in the bomb attack late on Thursday in Falluja, west of Baghdad.
Another four U.S. troops, thought to be three Marines and a sailor, were presumed dead, suggesting their remains had so far not been identified.
One of those confirmed dead and 11 of the wounded were women, a U.S. military statement said. Female Marines are used to search Iraqi women at checkpoints.
The other Marine confirmed dead was killed by small arms fire immediately after the bomb attack.
The deaths brought to at least 1,731 the number of U.S. troops killed since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003 to topple
U.S. officers say insurgents are developing more powerful "shaped" bombs that are capable of piercing if not destroying U.S. armored vehicles, greatly increasing the deadliness of their attacks.
In mid-June, five U.S. Marines were killed in a roadside bomb blast near Ramadi, a rebellious city west of Falluja. The week before five U.S. soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb attack on their vehicle in a nearby town.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, one of the architects of the war that overthrew Saddam, was grilled by members of the U.S. Senate on Thursday who suggested he and others had painted too rosy a picture of the Iraq conflict.
"This war has been consistently and grossly mismanaged," Senator Edward Kennedy, a Democrat, told Rumsfeld. "And we are now in a seemingly intractable quagmire."
The top U.S. commander in the Middle East and Gulf regions, General John Abizaid, declined to endorse comments by Vice President
Dick Cheney that the insurgency was in its last throes.
He said the strength of the insurgency had not diminished and that more foreign fighters were in Iraq than six months ago.
"There's a lot of work to be done against the insurgency," Abizaid told the hearing.
Bush, under pressure over declining support among Americans for his policy on Iraq, discussed strategy with Jaafari, whose Shi'ite-led government took office just two months ago.
Jaafari told reporters he did not think a timetable should be set for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq, saying their help would be needed for some time to come.
White House officials signaled there would be no major change in Bush's policy and that U.S. troops would stay in Iraq until Iraqis were sufficiently trained to defend themselves.
"This is a critical moment in Iraq," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said as he announced Bush would make a major address to troops and the nation on Iraq on Tuesday.
"This a real time of testing," McClellan said.
Jaafari's trip to Washington followed a visit to Brussels where he met donors to discuss financial support for Iraq.
Since his government was formed in April, violence has increased.
More than 1,000 Iraqis have been killed in guerrilla attacks and sabotage goes on unabated. A major oil pipeline was attacked on Thursday and a blast on a water pumping station left half of Baghdad without water earlier this week.
A contract dispute between the Iraqi government and a British security company that protects Baghdad airport blew up on Friday. The firm went on strike and civil aviation at the airport had to be shut down.
The Shi'ite-led government is trying to find ways to draw the minority Sunni Arabs, who form the core of the insurgency, fully into the political process and end the violence.
But one of Iraq's most powerful Shi'ite leaders, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, ruled out dialogue with insurgents who, he said, had declared all-out war on his community and "must be terminated."
"The terrorist groups have revealed their purpose, which is creating sectarian strife, and stand in the way of the political process and building the new Iraq," said Hakim, a day after two waves of car bombs killed more than 30 people in mainly Shi'ite neighborhoods of the capital.

Bush won't send his kids — why should you?

Karl Rove slandered Democrats again yesterday. He said, "Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Wow! Chickenhawk Karl Rove, who couldn't be bothered serving in Vietnam, has morphed into one fierce warrior! These Republicans love war, don't they? The fierce rhetoric, the fancy uniforms, the manly poses, the steely gazes. Just about the only thing Republicans don't love is the actual warfare itself - you know, "defeating the enemy" and stuff. That's icky! That's why they avoid it so vigorously.
What is one to make of our current crisis in Iraq? Month after month, armed forces recruiters are failing to meet their quotas. These same Republicans who love to call Democrats traitors and appeasers refuse to lift a finger to solve this situation.
Has Rush Limbaugh urged his tens of millions of listeners to hustle right down to their local recruiting station and get in on some of that "mopping up" action in the glorious parade to victory in newly Democratic Iraq? No.
Sean Hannity? Bill O'Reilly? Has James "Focus On Family" Dobson urged his followers to enlist? After all, on March 21, 2003, he said, "Saddam Hussein must be stopped. Appeasement of tyrants is never successful!" James, America needs your followers in uniform! It's a damn crisis! Why won't you lift a finger?
Hey, what the heck, George W. Bush his own bad self has two daughters. Why aren't they in the Army? Is their endless nocturnal quest for the perfect trashcan margarita really more important than stopping Islamofascism in the Middle East?
Even Ray Charles, who is both blind and dead, can see why recruitment is down. It's because we're getting our ass kicked in Iraq, and potential recruits (correctly) perceive that the Bushies think that anyone who signs up for military service is a sucker.
Yes, the Bushies love to lob 20 megaton bombast. If words were bullets, Iraq would be our 51st state, and there'd be a Wal-Mart on every Baghdad street corner. Every time George Bush opens his mouth, he's blathering about our "commitment" to bring democracy to the Middle East. We all know actions speak louder than words. So what do the actions of the Bush Administration tell us? Wellllllllll......
"We're gonna start a war, and we're gonna lie about why we're getting in. Don't worry, we'll "fix" the data later. We're gonna use the war to win the 2002 mid-terms, so we can get some more tax cuts for our business buds. And after the suckers who bought our lies find out we fibbed, we're gonna change the reason we're there, and dare the press to call us on it. Oh, and one more thing - we're gonna use the war to blackjack the Democrats every chance we get."
"We're not gonna squander money on body armor for the dumb bastards who sign up. If they want that stuff, their folks can buy it for 'em. Hell, we got other priorities - like "losing" 8.8 billion dollars that's somehow gonna end up in the pockets of Republican donor/private contractors."
"We're not gonna bother protecting any o' them Iraqi ammo dumps. Hell, what's the worst that can happen? Them terrorists can steal a couple of tons of RDX and use it to blow up our troops. So?"
"If somebody gets injured, we're gonna charge 'em for their meals in the VA Hospital. Hell, you think we're made o' money? Damn free-loaders."
"If some dumb bastard gets himself killed, we're sure as hell not gonna let the local news show his flag-draped coffin coming home. That would make us look bad! And don't even think about the President wasting his precious "mountain bike" time at a military funeral! What a bring-down! Hide them bodies, and that's an order!"
"Oh, and one more thing. If one of these soldiers ever decides to run for office, you can make damn sure we're gonna use his service against him. Need proof? Lookit what we did to John Kerry. We're gonna ridicule his idiotic decision to enlist, make fun of any decorations he gets under fire, and trash him for - what else - not having the simple common sense God gave George Bush, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Tom Delay, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, and every other Great Warrior in the Bush Administration. The military is for suckers, pal."
This war was a tons o' fun when it was a Fox News Shock N' Awe TV Spectacular, complete with Presidential Aircraft Carrier Photo Op Goodness. But that party is over, and the Bushies need a whole bunch of new suckers. They've shown they won't spend a penny of political capital going to their Young Republican "Future Pharmaceutical Lobbyists of America" base. So whose left? Oh yeah - the weak-willed, traitorous appeasers on the left. Good luck recruiting them, Mr. President.
Bush won't send his kids, huh?
I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where Jenna and Barbara volunteered for the military.....

So tell us, how many of you maggot infested long haired pony-tailed pussies would fight for the nation that grants you the right to be the idiot you are?
ZERO.....that's how many. You clowns wouldn't lift a finger to fight for this country even if a scenario out of "Red Dawn" happened......
That's why we know there is no use in trying to recruit your sissified asses....i laughed the other day when the Stephanie Miller show on Air America Radio had an Army recruiting commercial on it. I thought, man, the Army is wasting alot of money of a commercial that'll fall on deaf ears.....
You guys go out of your way to do nothing by try and demoralize the troops that are making the ultimate sacrifices and then some......and the funny thing is, you don't believe that those serving are on to your liberal Vietnam playbook.....
you say you support the troops, but the majority of you clowns silently rejoice at any failures they may endure....and you guys especially love keeping score of how many lose their lives in the war.
You side with those that would call our troops "Nazi's" or claim our troops are treating terrorists like they were prisoners in a "Gulag"....or that they are as bad as "Pol Pot" and his murderous regime.
I notice that not a solitary one of you pussies has stepped up to denounce Durben for his comments that basically emboldened our enemies like Kerry did in Vietnam......why?
Because you agree with his comments.....
as for denouncing Dick Durbin , we dont fall for the same games you do , I saw Durbins speach , and what is being claimed is out of context of what he said , but no matter , Facts and truth have no room in your thinking errand ......
it just amazes me why christians wonder why they have a bad name .......
I must admit I was disappointed with Duben's comments and I saw the speech as well and I didn't think it was taken out of context. I was secretly hoping that somebody would post a thread about it this past week but nobody did and consequently no democrat/liberal/whatever has made any comments about it that I've seen.
First, you come here talking smack like your team just won the superbowl when the lying pinhead's approval numbers are in the toilet, the majority of Americans disapprove of the direction the country is headed under his "leadership," and the AWOL monkey's reasons for sending our troops into harm's way have all turned out to be deliberate lies.
Then you disrespect the military service of those of us who speak out against the chickenhawks you're fellating and impugn our patriotism when we call for accountability for these crooks.
A neo-fascist, nazi idiot like you doesn't deserve American citizenship: You should move to some country ruled by a totalitarian dictatorship until you learn how to act in a democratic republic.
He shouldn't have wimped out and apologized to these thugs.
Every last one of them - from Shrubya on down - needs to be tried for war crimes.
Most of all, they need to be held accountable for sending our troops into harm's way for reasons that turned out to be fabrications and deliberate lies.
Why did Durbin apologize? He had compared the practice of chaining Guantanamo prisoners to their cell walls in extreme temperatures and depriving them of food and water, to the practices of Nazi and Soviet jailers. Not one of his critics claimed that such practices had not occurred at Guantanamo, or that Nazis and Soviets did not employ such practices.
What Durbin was really crying about was his political error of using the words "Americans" and "Nazis" in the same sentence. For this was precisely what gave his opponents in the Senate and the media the opportunity to lambast him while, incidentally, any discussion about the real issue - maltreatment of prisoners - became moot. When the media, with the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News leading the rabid pack, started howling, Durbin must have seen his political future sinking like a stone. Clutching at straws and jettisoning priciples, he saw a sniveling apology as his salvation.
Well, we have news for you, Senator. Rush Limbaugh, for one, is not at all happy with your apology. Limbaugh devotes over 5,500 words on his website, transcribed from one of his broadcasts, to "analyzing" the apology. His main problem is semantic: "Basically, folks," Limbaugh hectors, "he's apologizing 'if' you were offended. He's not apologizing for what he said ... He doesn't retract the remarks and he doesn't say, 'I was wrong.'"
Quite so, Rush. How clever of you to spot that.
Now the way the right is carrying it , it is out of context .....
you know as well as I do ..... But it didnt get traction the way the right had hoped , not once the entire speach was heard ........
1,728 Soldiers are Dead Because of Bush Administration Policies and "Philosophies". That's the truth. That's the reality Karl Rove doesn't want you to know -- Bush is ultimately responsible for those deaths.
