Mock's new and better "Plan" 3 round contest
Well, it's Thursday and I'm not sure the fireworks have stopped. I really feel Denver isn't done wiggling around, but now we have our late second, and early third and two 3rd comps late, and can trade a gazillion picks slotted from next year, including two firsts and two 4ths.
I will take a blind stab at it, and expect Denver to move up into the early second, losing a pick, but not at the expense of our #1 from Washington.
2. Move up, Bass or Roth
3. That WR from UNC. Vincent Jackson.
3a. Roscoe Parrish
3b. McPherson the QB
Bear in mind I have never picked a Denver choice except when Reeves took Duckett and left Lelie into our lap, when I felt sure we would move down a tad and get Ed Reed.
I just don't see Denver sitting on it's hands not trying to move back up in round 2, yet keeping it's two #1's it has stashed on the blocks, considering Washington looks like it's going to completely melt down with Arrington on Crutches, Smoot and Pierce gone, and Gibbs watching NASCAR on his IPOD during halftime.
Snyder needs to wake up as well. Wal-Greens and Wal-Mart are expanding while Nero fiddles with cash that was thrown at a big baby.
I see 5-7 wins max from Washington, and that is with a healthy Portis, who has to be wondering if those Fish are worth all the Bling Bling.
It isn't sexy, but I think this is the year they go with guys who can come in and develop - likely no first year starters.
2. Marcus Johnson OG Ole Miss - Durable, big, versitile, athletic guard who wll start for ten years after he replaces Carlisle at mid year.
3a. Vince Jackson - Homer pick. After initial surge of publicity it sounds like he is falling due to scouts looking at film and seeing that is does not run great routes, his lack of big time competition and some of the speed receivers are moving up fast.
3b. Ciatrick Fason RB Florida Would have been late first/early second had he stayed in school. Elusive, one move back with great attitude and receiving skills. Needs to gain about 10 pounds but can do that at hs age. Turner gets a reward for his loyalty.
3c. Adam Kieft OT Central Michigan - Huge (6'7", 335), athletic, extremely smart, great technique, very physical. Could be the replacement for Foster when he moves to the left side.
Just for kicks:
6. Ellis Hobbs - CB Iowa St.Small, but very fast with great leaping ability. Very aggresive. Stash him on the PS and he has a chance to make folk forget Hearndon.
7. Madison Hedgecock TE/FB/LS - Former DE who is a mean blocker with some recieiving skills. Can long snap. With his size and quickness, he would be good on the ST lines. Great attitude. With luck he could conserve a roster spot by replacing both Hape and Leach.
If Fason landed in our laps I would go onto the roof.
Round 2. Evan Mathis, G, Bama
Round 3. Fred Gibson, WR, Georgia
Round 3. Stanford Routt, CB, Houston
Round 3. Adrian McPherson, QB, FSU/AFL
I am going to use any mojo I have to try and keep Vincent Jackson, Brodney Pool, or Mike Patterson on the board at 56, but I believe all 3 will be gone. I have suspicion that someone will grap Jackson, he is too good to pass up. Pool and Patterson just simply grade out higher than 56.
2. Logan Mankins, G
3a. Anthony Perkins, CB/KR
3b. Chris Komeatu, G
3c. Craig Bragg, WR/PR
6. Nehemiah Broughton, FB
7. Lou Lombardo, T
2. Josh Bullocks-S
3a. Adrian Mcpherson-QB
3b. Ray Willis-OT
3c. Antonio Perkins-CB/KR
2. Corey Webster CB
3. Dan Buenning G
3. Courtney Roby WR
3. Jordan Beck OLB
6. Tyler Jones P
7. Lionel Gates RB
I figure we take a pregnant Iguana round 2, some guy out on Bond in round 3, and two projected corners that we can put on IR in round three.
2a Logan Mankins, play Lt for Dave Car is freshman year ,so know how to pass block. He is also a Mauler in the running game. This is not a sexy pick but he should be a solid starter in nfl for 10 years. 3a Vincent Jackson,I think Mcpherson will be gone. Jackson would be a good player for the te coach who develope Gates from San Diego. 3b Eric Shelton , He is a great goalline runner which should improve red zone scoring 3c Antonio Perkins ,Nickle corner who can return punts. The Bronco also trade 3 round pick next year for a 4 rounder and draft Dave Green.
Vince Jackson has been a fan favorite here so if the Broncos pass on him most of this board is gonna flip!
Ciatrick Fason RB is an interesting pick. Most would say that we don't need RB but with Q and Anderson coming off injuries and Bell a first year starter I like this pick. I also think Fason is going to be a pretty darn good pro back.
A job well done!
2. Kay-Jay Harris (why not? RBs R us)
3a. Vincent Jackson (he'll slide. UNC gets no respect)
3b. Ronald Bartell (Shanny loves tall DBs, the kid is raw, but has great upside, could also be moved to safety. Might not fall this far, though)
3c. Robert McCune (older player, but we took M.A. and he worked out)
Round 2. Elton Brown G UVA
Round 3. Josh Bullocks S Nebraska
Round 3. Ronald Bartell CB Howard
Round 3. Chris Henry WR WVU
