return man

what do you guys think about drafting a return man?

personally i feel it is a necessity for the broncos, as our return game has been marginal at best the last few years.

who do you see the broncos drafting?

justin miller in round 1? a nickel CB and a return man. 2 for 1 pick?

maybe chad owens later?...quick and tiny. a specialist.
what round is he projected to go in?

let me hear what you have to say

Gil Brandt's top return men

Returners

1. Justin Miller, Clemson (5-9¾, 201) He ran 4.42 and 4.48 at the combine. He led the nation in 2004 with a 33.1-yard average on kickoff returns, and ran two back for touchdowns against Florida State. He also had a 13-yard average on punt returns. In all, he returned seven kicks for touchdowns (five on kickoffs) in his career at Clemson.

2. Chad Owens, Hawaii (5-7 3/8, 183) He ran 4.62 and 4.65 at the combine. He returned punts for a 14.8-yard average and brought back two kickoffs for touchdowns in 2004. In all, he returned eight kicks for touchdowns (six on punts) in his career at Hawaii.

3. DeAndra Cobb, Michigan State (5-9¾, 196) He ran 4.50 and 4.57 at the combine. He's a junior-college transfer who led the Big Ten in kickoff returns in 2003 (27.2 average) and three touchdowns. He had a 24.1-yard average and one touchdown in 2004. He has explosive speed, but does not return punts.

4. Marquis Weeks, Virginia (5-10½, 216) He ran 4.56 and 4.62 at the combine. He was a running back in high school. In his career, he had a 30.1-yard average on kickoff returns and scored two touchdowns. In 2004, he had a 32.2-yard average and one touchdown.

I like DeAndra Cobb as a RB and a kick returner in the later rounds.

Antonio Perkins, CB, Oklahoma is a dangerous return guy that Brandt did not include.

I think a lot of our crappy return game was due to bad blocking as well. I think somebody else pointed that out a while back. The games I watched, the defenders were on our return guys really quick and our returners had very little room to operate.

I'll drink two beers if we get Carlos Rodgers. Miller with the first is more likely imo.

Some 3rd / 4th possibilites too.

KO's is not a big deal. PR is maybe the biggest hole on the hole team. (-:

Return man is great - but can you spend the 1st rounder on a return guy if he is only a nickel back otherwise??

bendog 04-18-2005 12:16 PM

And Roc will most likely be the nickl guy, unless Middlebrooks is whole. But a team needs 4 legit corners. Roc was no 5 on the depth chart last year.

IbleedORANGEandBLUE 04-18-2005 01:58 PM

i think that miller would only be nickel for a year or two...then develop into a starter across from bailey...

that would make him worth the first round pick. because having three good corners will shut down teams like indy. we cant have two good, and one decent or we will get torn apart...i like miller in round 1

He returned two kickoffs for TDs and had an int against Florida State. Is that better?? I thought so.

Comparing him to Watson is redicules.

I'm glad to see some more Miller supporters in here. If he can win the starting job in a year or too it would be a great first rounder. That would be a ton of speed with champ and miller
