Calling Orangemane Tech Support...

For some reason my computer suddenly can't play Divx AVI files

With all the details you provided Bart I don't understand why I can't figure this out. :kiddingme

What player are you trying to play the .avi with? What's the error message?
Have you tried more than one .avi?

EDIT: You don't live anywhere near the KC area do You?
There is a known issue with anything working correctly in that part of the country.

DrFate 01-07-2005 07:55 AM

You need to include your OS and which app you normally use for playing such files, as well as any installs/removes you may have made lately. Then someone might be able to help.

Bob's your Information Minister 01-07-2005 07:57 AM

Windows XP
Windows Media Player Classic

There's no error message, just a black screen where the video playback should be...yes I've tried multiple AVI files...

Bob's your Information Minister 01-07-2005 07:59 AM

It doesn't actually play the video either...just sits there at 0:00

Try playing an avi with Real Player or any other different player. If you can then you might check here http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemList.aspx?typeid=8 to see if you need something for WMP.

Try checking your codecs here and see if everything is kosher.

You should watch the game from week 1 instead of week 15.

:)

Click HELP | ABOUT in MS Media player - what version?
What type of video card do you have? Does your video player play the SOUND?

No, the video won't start at all. Other kinds of videos work fine.

Version is 6.4.09.11.28

Hmmm...

If it is multiple players that I would think it is a divx/direct x problem.

If I were you, I'd install the latest version of the Media Player (I am running 10). I can't say that will solve your problem (since you can't pin it to the app itself).

The divx website says they have some issues with some video cards and their configs, but it has worked before...

Right, it's been working for months with the same hardware.

My trial version of Divx Pro did recently expire...but I uninstalled it and installed free Divx...that might be related.

Yeah, somethings definitely FUBAR. I can't even load the Divx config utility.

Problem Cant Play Divx 5.2.1Video..............
Solution ......... Unplug your power cord from the back of your computer , then go to a computer store , find a computer that will fit your power plug ..........
Cost for this Advice = 250.00 ........
Have a nice day ;D

PatsWin2002 01-07-2005 08:57 AM

It's probably a codec.

Maybe you should download the DivX player - I'll bet that will play it.

Bob's your Information Minister 01-07-2005 09:07 AM

I tried that too....

You might want to get a new generator for your mobile home? Could be a power issue.... :)

Mile High Shack 01-07-2005 09:23 AM

Did your check your codecs like I said (what's installed on your PC)?

http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourc...ec_1.1.0.4.exe

Might try uninstalling all divx codecs and reinstalling.
And then install this pack.......
