Hurricane Ivan
With a soaked Florida, if this one slams...make this one turn one way or the other.
I have a bad feeling about Ivan. |

Been watching this one after it developed. Living on the coast has one drawback for sure. Insurance is going to go through the roof in Florida!
A lot of people aren't going to be able to buy homes their anymore because of insurance rates. If Ivan hits Florida the whole state might be under water. From the NOAA.......... RECORD NUMBER OF TORNADOES REPORTED IN U.S. DURING AUGUST A land-falling hurricane and a tropical storm helped push the total number of tornado reports to a record high for the month of August across the United States, according to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. http://www.noaa.gov/ |
Hurricane Ivan just SOUNDS deadly. I'm hoping Ivan folds faster than the Soviet Union economy.

Here's a great link for satellite photos. Go down to "Atlantic Views" and then select "Gulf of Mexico." The "loops" really show what it's doing. This thing is major league ugly. |
=( We are evacuating tomorrow. Pensacola is suppose to get hit head on. Wife and I are getting our house ready best we can tonight/tomorrow morning and then we are heading out of here tomorrow afternoon/night.

Good luck, Want2b. I've spent some time down in Gulf Shores, Alabama. One of my favorite little places on Earth. I hope they don't get whacked by this thing. You're smart to get out. I lived in Florida during David in '79. Nothing to mess with.
|
Good luck!! Hopefully this thing falls apart when it/if it hits Cuba. Right now it looks like it's going to go inbetween Yucatan and Cuba. Damn thing has eyes.
|
Good luck. Mrs Dog, Little Girl Dog and I were planning to have thanksgiving at the Grand Hotel at Pt Clear Ala, right east of Mobile on the Bay, but ..... I love that place.

Here it is off the tip of Cuba. That well defined eye means it is very powerful. |
This looks really bad. It could be a Camille.
|
Just look at that thing, that eye is huge and formed so well. That looks like something from Day After Tomorrow.
|
If you look at the IR, it looks like its beginning to really fall apart as it approaches Cuba. It is still red on the back-half, but the forward half is mostly orange now. Hopefully that means that Cuba is weakening it. If I remeber right, isn't that area pretty shallow anyway (between Yucatan and Cuba)? If that's true, then it will defintely weaken there, but then probably strengthen back up some as it gets into deeper water after Cuba. But then it runs into cooler water so it could still weaken further. This thing could possibly end up being only (only a good thing here??) a CAT 2 by the time it hits the US coastline.

Ivan has been defying predictions for a few days now. I would *prepare* to evacuate (packing supplies, getting non-perishable foodstuffs, batteries, flashlights, radios, etc.) but I would not evacuate yet. By Wednesday, we ought to know where this is going with time left to clear out.

Hey, I just realized that picture of the hurricane I posted is updating itself! I should really learn more about this computer stuff. I know just enough to be dangerous.
Anyway, still a category 5 storm. Hopefully, the cooler water in the gulf will break it down. |

Here's the IR image. Last night there was less red around the eye. Now it looks like it's putting itself back together. |
The weather channel said there was some hot dry air way up high, around 30K maybe, that might take some steam (pun intended) out of it before it hits. Looks like Mobile, and the Grand will be underwater. At least Marriot has the bucks to repair.
|
Now it's dropped to a Category 4, winds at 140 mph. Looks to me like N'awlins better hunker down.
|
IF it hit NOLA straight on, it could be a disaster. I was there 9 years ago when one hit, and I was one of the last ones to depart. Very scary. I don't know how much rain the pumps can pump out now.

When the levee breaks lyrics If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, [X2] When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay. Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, [X2] Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home, Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well. Don't it make you feel bad When you're tryin' to find your way home, You don't know which way to go? If you're goin' down South They go no work to do, If you don't know about Chicago. Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good, Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good, When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move. All last night sat on the levee and moaned, [X2] Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home. Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you... Going down... going down now... going down.... |

Ivan hasn't even got here yet and now Jeanne is born and moving towards Florida.................

I wasn't concerned with my girlfriend going to Georgia this week for a wedding, but that thing is in the Gulf of Mexico. Georgia could easily feel remnants of it by Sunday.

Goodbye New Orleans...I had fun there.
If New Orleans get's hit directly...it could be under 15 of water |

I'm hoping against hope that the city is spared somehow...it's my favorite city in the nation and if this thing smacks it with a direct hit, it'll never be the same again. |
