OK - Grade My Draft

We just completed our 10 team 16 round draft...

QBs
Pennington (R5)
Brady (R7)
Maddox (R15)

RBs
S Davis (R1 - my keeper)
T Henry (R3)
M Faulk (R6)
D Foster (R8)

WRs
T Holt (R2 - my keeper)
L Coles (R4)
J Rice (R9) waited a bit, but I think it's value
T Calico (R10) after week 3, should be greatness
Boo Williams (R11) we don't start TEs, so he should be nice depth
Nate Burleson (R12)
<a href="http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187682" target="_blank">Dez White</a> (R16)

K
A Vinitieri (R13)

Def
Seahawks (R14)
----------------------------
It's the first year that we have done the keeper thing, so based on who was kept - what I had and what would be available - I kept S Davis and T Holt.

I like my RB depth, sure the top 3 have guys pushing for carries, but I can't imagine a better trio. I like my first 2 WRs, and I love the QBs ... there is trade bait there.

Thoughts?

Faulk in round 6 huh? Thats pretty good value right there. I think overall its a strong team, Pennington will be very good, and Calico and Burleson are both sleepers. Foster was a nice pick for insurance, would have been nice to get Stephan Jackson too...

Overall a very solid team. Holt is a definite keeper. You have to keep Davis I suppose, but he is getting up there in years so it could prove to be risky in the future.

Well MHM, I'll try to be kind. :flower:

I like your QBs, I think Pennington will really step up this year. Your backs worry me - I think you made a mistake keeping Davis (I think he is going to lose a lot of carries to Foster). So even though you handcuffed Foster, if they split carries you won't have one you can consistently play. I also don't like the Henry in BUF this year - he's already dinged and McGahee is going to get carries. I think Faulk will struggle, but I can't argue where you took him. It was a good value and the gamble may well pay off handsomely.

I really like Holt this year, I think he really asserts himself as a top notch fantasy option. I'm mixed on Coles, but he could do very well. I think Rice is primed for a collapse and may not get to 500 yards. The steal of your draft may be Calico (once he gets healthy). A lot of people are high on him, and you only risked a 10 to get him.

I'm on record as not liking Vinateri as a fantasy option - just too spotty from 30+ yards. Kickers get big fantasy points for long range accuracy, and the NE kicker just doesn't get it done for me.

If I were to give a grade, I'd mark down on too many questions on the foundation of your team (RB). You have nice depth at QB and a solid #1 WR.
But what do I know? :clown:

Good luck!!!

I can't say that I'm 100% satisfied with the draft, but not many folks can say that at this time.

My strategy with the QBs is trade bait. There will be 4 or 5 owners that will highly covet one of those QBs around week 3. So, that is the only reason I took them both that high.

Holt is money in the bank, and Coles is a solid #2 in my opinion. He has had 5, 6 and 7 TDs each of the last 3 years and just over 1,200 yards 80 receptions each of the last 2. The addition of Brunell (not to mention Portis) should improve their passing game, so I see Brunell-Coles having great chemistry.

Rice was a reach, but I didn't like the other available talent that much better at the time. Plus - he's #3, and in due time Calico should return and do the amazing things that I think he will do in TN. Calico is my projected #3 by Oct 1. The other guys are just depth and trade fodder.

My RBs do have questions, but the top 7 RBs were being kept. I could have dropped Davis and taken Edge, Dillon, Rudi, Taylor. I'm not sold that any of those guys (with the exception of Rudi) are that much more a sure thing to reach 1,200 yds and 10 TDs. Henry falling to me in R3 (#23 overall), after I have Davis and Holt ... knowing that I wouldn't pick again until #38 overall ... that was a no-brainer.

Everyone after R3 kept waiting to see how far Faulk would fall. So, I took him as my #3 RB at the top of R6 after selecting Pennington. I think it was wise.

Again, I can take one of my QBs and Faulk ... and acquire a top caliber RB or WR. There were at least 5 times when the player I wanted was taken 1 or 2 slots before me, dramatically altering my philosophy.
