Franklin to LG confirmed

According to his Twitter account:

Left guard, excited to learn and improve this offseason. I will give it my all
— Orlando Franklin (@OFranklin74) April 21, 2014

What are your thoughts? I think it's a good idea, and we can give Clark and a new prospect some time out at RT. Interesting that he came out with it so soon.

I don't get it. guard is a plug and play spot.

Requiem 04-21-2014 01:38 PM

Clady, Franklin, Ramirez, Vasquez, Clark. -- Solid.

Looks like we can lessen the priority on a OG/OL right away in the draft. Likely will look at guys in rounds 3-5 to compete would be my guess. Billy Turner (NDSU) would be a nice get, OT capability, likely to kick inside to G. Don't forget Painter (PS) and Montgomery (FA) as well.

Ray Finkle 04-21-2014 01:39 PM

I like it. You have Clark playing RT and some serious mass in the middle. With Painter in the wings and some more smart drafting, I think it gives a great deal of depth.

We just plugged and played him in there. Allows Chris Clark, who performed well, to keep a starting job. Five seasoned guys is better than four seasoned and a rookie, IMHO. Allows us to focus on DB, LB, etc. earlier in the draft. Believe we signed Montgomery as well -- competition. Painter on the PS.

Kaylore 04-21-2014 01:40 PM

Ryan Clark is going to be one of the best RT's in the league. A monster.

Rabb 04-21-2014 01:41 PM

Man this line really could be special.

Drunken.Broncoholic2 04-21-2014 01:42 PM

This just thins our depth across the line. Here's hoping no one gets hurt. Id rather try out Montgomery. Clark comes in when not if someone gets hurt.

Jens1893 04-21-2014 01:43 PM

This also pretty much confirms heīs gone after this year.

Totally agree... I like this move as I think Clark did a great job at LT, and should be a nice fit at RT. Draft a guy in the mid rounds to develop. It just creates more versatility and opportunity for this line to be so dominant.

Why do you say that?

I think it's dumb.

He had one bad/awful game at RT, doesnt mean he should move from there.

Clark is better as a backup/swing T than starter imo.

Yes and No.

Depends how he does there provided he's not awful there.

Contract wise, RT and G money is about the same, but i could see him be the odd man out given others due new deals.

LikeABoss5820 04-21-2014 01:48 PM

I wonder if that changes draft plans now.

Instead of a guard or center, maybe a RT now?

Clark is under contract for 2015 as well, which I think figures in here. I think we draft a guy to take his spot now and groom him in 2014 to take over for Franklin in 2015. I donīt see us paying big money to 2 guards.

BMORE 04-21-2014 01:52 PM

I don't think we were ever drafting OLine early, even though many of you wanted Sua-Filo @31.

We already have depth on the OLine:
Clady, Franklin, Manny, Vasquez, Clark

With Montgomery a back up C/G, Justice your back up LT/RT, and Painter competing at RT.

Because they are hurting his income potential. Tackles are paid better than guards and the last image suitors will have of him at tackle is bad, without a way to recover from it.

Left Tackles make the big money.

RT money and Guard money is about the same.

Contract wise, it doesnt really hurt/help him if the transition goes well.

Some of those last names will be starting at some point. I have zero faith in thinking our starters will stay healthy. For me, I don't want justice or painter seeing the field.

SonOfLe-loLang 04-21-2014 01:58 PM

Always thought this was the best course of action. Get your five best on the field. Also, the writing was probably on the wall when Justice was signed.

SouthStndJunkie 04-21-2014 01:59 PM

I'm not a big fan of the move....I know Denver wants to get Chris Clark on the field as a starter next season after his performance at left tackle, but I liked the right side of our offensive line as it was and wanted to build off that cohesiveness.

Wouldnt surprise me if it happened but not set in stone.

Having two dominant G's is huge, see: Saints with Evans/Grubbs.

Interior pressure is the worst for a QB, QB's can avoid outside pressure.
