Good luck to him. That seems like a good fit.

Giants are great at coaching up players at the DE position. Watch Ayers break out in a big way with that team.

baja 04-02-2014 07:47 AM

How does this affect the 2015 comp picks for us? Eddie Mac?

stoxman 04-02-2014 07:49 AM

Bring on Malik, baby!

Dr. Broncenstein 04-02-2014 07:50 AM

Well, bye!

This should add another compensatory pick to their arsenal for 2015. What round will of course depend on how much Ayers signed for. I would not be surprised if the Broncos made a move up for a player they want this year using normal 2015 picks, knowing they'll have those comp picks to indemnify against.

Did cross my mind. Right now 2 4ths for Beadles, DRC, a 6th for Phillips and it really depends on Ayers aav to determine the rd of his pick, if it's more than Moreno $3m pa, it's Moreno we get the pick for (likely a 6th rounder again).

I feel like some of you would prefer we don't sign FAs because we might lose a 7th round comp pick in two years

Bigdawg26 04-02-2014 08:12 AM

Good for him. Seems like the Giants are taking all our leftovers.

It doesn't because we didn't make him an offer.

Hercules Rockefeller 04-02-2014 08:19 AM

They don't need to make him an offer

He was unrestricted Kahn so no need to make an offer. Only restricted players that are not tendered do not qualify for comp picks if they sign elsewhere, i.e Holliday.

Take a look at who's left and tell me would you give up a 6th rd pick next year for them.

I've been trying to use AdamJT13's formula to figure out whether Beadles is going to qualify as a 4th or 5th. It's going to be close, and it will make a difference for the Broncos. If he's a 4th (as you're projecting), they get two 4ths and a 6th. If he's a 5th, it's a 4th and two 6ths.

It'll be interesting to see what Ayers's APY will be. By my calculations, it needs to be at least $2.7M to be a clear cut 6th. If it's in between $1.7M and $2.7M it will be a tossup between a 6th and 7th. Not sure if the fact that it's a 2-year makes those chances better or worse.

Wonder if Ayers signing means NYG have already given up on Damontre Moore?

Kaylore 04-02-2014 08:49 AM

Ok so basically it's only what the free agent who leaves signs for, but isn't their performance a factor? Like if Decker, Ayers and Holiday go all world, wouldn't that be a factor or it just what they sign elsewhere for?

Requiem 04-02-2014 08:51 AM

Mike Mayock said this guy was gonna be the best defender, or could have been, in that draft class. WRONG.

Pro Bowls and playing time does factor in, but it's a much smaller factor than the contract amount. It can occasionally make a difference in pick level, though. An example I can see this year is that the Jets probably should have gotten a 5th for Dustin Keller, but because he blew his knee out in the preseason and was IRed the whole year, that appeared to be just enough to push him down to a 6th.

You can pretty much guess what round the comp pick will be in based off the contract, but yes, performance can be factored in.

Pardon me if this was dealt with elsewhere, but shouldn't the amount we signed Talib and Ward for pretty much negate a good chunk of any comp picks we'd get back for the guys we lost?
