You know that trucks, vans and other large vehicles will defeat this. Some Fedex guy will forget that his vehicle is too tall to fit underneath and after that accident people will be too scared to rid in them. All it takes is one yahoo to ruin it for the rest of us. Also it looks like it is driverless, if some glitch allows for it to ram into a too tall vehicle, there goes public acceptance and with it ridership.

But I like what the Chinese are thinking. Very innovative.

Not to mention some doofus making a turn in front of it. And what about the average guy driving along and suddenly some thing goes whooshing overhead, blocking out the sun? How many people slam on the brakes when that happens?

We're talking Asian drivers here.

I kid. ;D

Some of your comcerns are addressed in the vid

Notice the guard rails that the "bus" runs within. Not possible to turn into the lane.

The vid shows cars turning into the lane. Obviously, cars would have to be able to enter and leave the lanes over which the buses run.

Ya see that now looks like the have a traffic light to make the cars stop before leaving the lane while the bus is occupying the space but I agree it depends on the driving skill of the general driving public which if there was an accident it would be one hell of an expensive accident and as you point they are Asian drivers. ;D

I'd feel safe in that thing. The walls look thick and it's HUGE. The curved nose looks sturdy and there's plenty of space at at each end to protect the passengers. The cars on the street better pay attention tho.

Rohirrim 08-19-2013 08:54 PM

Why not just build a raised track above the street?

The future of all transportation industries is in the automated vehicle, individual vehicles. Mass transit is not the future.

Long time no see.

Yep. You're right. Some day you'll get in your car, program your destination, and then lean back and watch the news, or whatever, while your car takes you to work. Of course, that's if you even need to leave your home to work.

The news? I would be willing to watch nothing but commercials if it meant I never had to drive again. Sounds like a great business opportunity to me.

Why not have straddling buses on the street and the raised track?
