So, How are we feeling about Steve Vallos?

I mean, he's bounced around the league a bit, managed to play in 42 games (9 starts) over the course of 6 seasons......So, this is apparently our level of confidence in Philip Blake, even a career journeyman back-up is an upgrade. Really hoping for the quick rehab of J.D. Walton now.

I thought I read somewhere that Jeff Saturday would be willing....not sure how to feel about that as he didn't impress in GB.

bowtown 07-29-2013 06:29 AM

Jeff Saturday is old and done.

Ray Finkle 07-29-2013 06:33 AM

Saturday was a train wreck with GB last year.

I have no problem with them bringing in Vallos for more competition.

Jeff Saturday is worse than everyone on our team, including Blake.

As for the OP, it means Blake is likely a bad pick. (It happens. He was a later fourth round pick.) It also means we've replaced our depth with a someone isn't quite as good as Koppen, but is going to back up Ramirez. And it probably means Kuper isn't going to play center.

Remember: Ramirez was starting at center since OTA's and continued to do so after Koppen was signed. Many think he would have eventually started. That's speculative. We didn't lose a starter when Koppen went down. We lost our backup center.

Not sure how I feel about that either.....he didn't look good last year on the line and center is a pretty vital position obviously. Not sure there is anyone else though

The crazy part is that Blake was one of the better rated Centers from the 2012 draft. He had solid tape and I remember reading how solid he was during Senior Bowl practices..

Even when you think you have a solid prospect, there's no guarantees.

I think he's going to be better than Koppen would have been this year. Seriously. Dan Koppen wasn't even on the Broncos radar until Walton reinfected his foot. That means they were going to do the Ramirez/Walton thing regardless. And we all know Walton isn't a world beater.

I wonder what the problem is with Blake. Disappointing to hear that he hasn't made strides at either the C/OG positions. Wouldn't be a stretch to believe he doesn't make the squad this year.

I want to see for myself. I am going to try and make a practice that has pads this week and watch him. All accounts are he's not very good and the actions of the front office aren't suggesting any confidence either...

was Saturday a product of the Green Bay system and that's why is was so bad? Playing with Manning for all the years and then changing it up it might have affected his play, don't know, just asking. if he got back with Manning would he improve his play? just a thought

He's 38 years old. His inability to run and pass block effectively was not a result of playing in the wrong system. The system here isn't what the Colts ran so even if that was the case this wouldn't be a fix. And no, "just being in front of Manning again" would not un-old and un-weaken Jeff Saturday.

He also looks to be about 230 pounds right now.

Here you go -

"ESPN's Ed Werder reports ex-Colts C Jeff Saturday has "no interest" in un-retiring to sign with the Broncos after C Dan Koppen was lost for the season.
Saturday is one of Peyton Manning's most notable former teammates, but is all the way down to the 230-240 pound range, and appeared done with the Packers last season. He wouldn't have been a realistic option in Denver even if he were interested in giving football another go"

Broncos assistants wanted ManRam starting all along.

Vallos is a Gibbs guy, has worked with him before.

There you go.

And this also proves that Incarcerated Bob is a total waste of matter.

I feel like vallos will be a decent 2nd stringer and that it is impressive how obsessed the orangemane is with back up backup centers

07-29-2013 03:43 PM

Vallos = Ramirez = Walton

Center was never going to be a strength for this team.
