Thank You Orangemane

As you guys know, almost exactly one year ago (mid-August), I published a memoir book that benefits a very, very important charity: the Children of Fallen Patriots. This is a charity that provides education, counseling, etc to the children of military service members who gave their lives to this country.

As someone who deployed to Iraq during it's bloodiest era (mid 2004) with an infant (my daughter was only a few months old), this charity hits me on an extremely personal level.

This past Friday, I was able to spend the day volunteering with them and really understand the full scope of their work. I did a lot of data entry, but it definitely hit me that every slip of paper represented worlds of pain and misfortune that I, fortunately, can't even begin to fathom. They also were able to stress and show me the impact the surprising success my book has made for them on both awareness and finances. And for that, I thank you guys more than you'll ever know.

MANY of you have taken the time to write PMs telling me your own stories, or relating mine to your life, or telling me about your own struggles with loss, and for it, I'm forever indebted to those of you. I'd also never publicly share your stories, so I wanted to make a full thread where I really stress both my appreciation for your support and the good it has done for the CFPF.

So in an incredibly rare moment of sincerity, guys and girls, thank you all.

You know they repealed DADT, so you can go serve openly now.

You forgot the apostrophe and your dignity. Loser.

None of that. This is not the thread for the bickering.

I would also like to tell theRev he's welcome.

I have been so damn busy the last 3 months, I forgot to buy this. Done.

I really appreciate this Pat. I have been working on and off with the Wounded Warrior Project, but they are so far away from INDY with their PTSD programs I can only work infrequently and do fundraising here as well.

Mad props for doing something like this.

JK. Where can I donate, or should I just buy the book?

broncosteven 07-29-2013 01:02 PM

I believe that Public Service can help make our country a better place.

If everyone was involved in giving back I believe there would be less bickering and less us vs them type mentalities.

Glad to hear about your work making others lives better Pat!

Steve

I would prefer you do that than buy the book since my publisher and agent don't share my philanthropic goals. That way they get 100% as opposed to my %.

Special Instructions area of donation page: Mention you or your book, or doesn't matter?

I'd prefer if you didn't mention it. They're already more appreciative than they should be toward me.

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem."-Ronald Regan

And for some Marines, that sense of service becomes a part of the way they condact their lives forever. First time I've been on the Mane in forever due to insane work hours, and what's the first thing I see? Patrick continuing to make us proud!
Semper Fi, Brother,
Carry on the good work,

You sir, are a class act. You still may be an insensitive ego maniacal jackass on here, but you're clearly a good man and a decent human being.

You'd be surprised.

There's really about 10-20 very outspoken people here and literally all of them because I've intentionally hurt their feelings. :)

I was mostly kidding. Mostly.

I don't take anyone on here seriously. Except G6Matty... he's amazing.

Well I think we can all agree on that.

And at the end of the day, didn't Mediator call it?

If I cared about taking credit, I'd have 3x as many posts and this thread would have an entirely different theme.

Huzzah to you sir, well done, and all for a wonderful cause. I've told as many people as I can about it, and will continue to do so.

Thanks man. It seems to continue to grow, so I'm pleased.

We couldn't find the family of the guy in the picture with me back of the book that killed himself after we got back from Iraq, but they found the book and we're stunned to see him in it, so I got to talk to his family too.

Been great and humbling having so much positivity come from something you created.
