Good audio books

What is a good audio book? I have an 8 hour trip ahead of me. Just finishing "The Martian", which is fantastic, and I need another. Looking for a new fantasy series, maybe? I like just about everyhing though.

One of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to was World War Z. They did an edition that released with the movie, and it's got a bunch of celebrities doing the reading. It was simply awesome. One of the best audiobook experiences I've ever had.

Other very solid choices:
Into Thin Air
Into the Wild
Game of Thrones
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
The Secret Game

Yes, several times. It's a very good story, and well worth your time, but if I were to pick between the two, I'd say WWZ is a more interesting audio book.

If you want the best Audio book ever get Wagner's ring cycle and listen to it from start to finish. Might need an extra hour or 2 but it is one of the great stories ever along with some of the greatest music ever.

Just looked it up and while that music is good for studying
I don't think it'd be great for driving.

Wwz was OK. Story was underwhelming production was top shelf.

Shades of Grey.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. Its pretty damn funny. Most of what Moore writes is. There is also Island of the Sequined Love Nun, Practical Demonkeeping, You Suck, The Stupidest Angel, The Lust Lizard of Meloncholy Cove and Fool.

Lamb can be viewed as sacrilegious if you are the religious sort. BUT...funny.

You never saw Apocalypse Now have you? That was from Die Walkurie, Gottedammerung has some of the most exciting music ever made.

I did this on a 16 hour trip to Denver one year. It was fun to listen to the whole thing and made the time go by quicker.

You should check out some old time radio shows like Cloak and Dagger or Dragnet. Very entertaining and helps pass the time rather quickly. Check this page out http://www.oldradioworld.com/

Really? Shouldn't any good book also be a good audio book?

extralife 07-21-2013 03:43 AM

I think we, as a species, have breached a critical line when someone is recommending a book on account of the celebrities who may or may not have been paid to read it into a microphone.

I enjoyed that ESPN book (Those Guys Have All the Fun) on audiobook.

I like non-fiction a good bit for audiobooks, because there's not a plotline you have to follow where one detail makes a big difference. With a nonfiction book, your brain knows the overall point and it doesn't matter if you become a bit distracted on the road for a moment or two.

But I also listen to a lot of fiction.

I recently tried listening to "The Gunslinger" and I just can't get into it.

try http://podiobooks.com/title/browse/

All free, I like the Scott Sigler (just finished "ancestor") books myself but their is alot of good ones. ("infected" was great also). If you have kids those may not be good as they contain some very graphic material ..... but good material, very ..... visual.

download to your Ipod and enjoy.
