OT - could be moving to Denver

I am interviewing for a job in Aurora in a couple of weeks, is that a decent area?

Does anyone work or know anything about the Anschutz medical campus of CU?

It's getting better and there are nice areas. The area around Anschutz is pretty nice. Good mix of incomes. The DU campus is just south off there and it's fairly close to Cherry Creek mall.

Yes, it's very nice. Aurora used to receive a lot of grief from locals but it has changed a lot the past 20 years or so. It's basically on the East side of Denver and from what I've seen (was there at the medical center about 4 years ago) its a nice place to live IMHO.

Aurora sucks, especially that part of town. If you get a job, I'd try to live in Denver west of Colorado Blvd. Congress Park, Capitol Hill, and City Park are all good neighborhoods. You don't wanna live anywhere near Anschutz. Aside from Stapleton and Lowry which are fairly cookie cutter neighborhoods, it's pretty hood over there.

ESPECIALLY if you're somewhat younger, heed my advice or you will regret it. Central Denver >>>>>>>>>>>> anything Saudi Aurora. The commute from downtown to that part of aurora isn't bad at all. You can drive or there is a bus line that runs on 17th.

Anschutz isn't anywhere near DU or Cherry Creek... It's way north east from both of those places. Cherry Creek mall also sucks fwiw

Truer words have never been spoken. Listen to this man, do not live in Aurora.
If you have to work there, commute.

Commuting sucks in Denver, it just sucks ass. I have no idea what it's like to live in Aurora, the closest I came to living in Aurora was Capital Hill, but that was a while back.

The CU hospital is amazing! Wife and I had to spend a few days there recently and I thought the facility was amazing as was the staff.

Aurora on the other hand sucks ass and the area around the hospital is scary ass ghetto, awful neighborhood.

Don't live in Aurora.

Commuting from downtown Denver to northern Aurora (Anschutz) isn't bad at all. 13th and 14th ave are one ways which do a good job of moving traffic. I used to live downtown and work in Stapleton, it was a 15 min drive tops. Avoid the freeways (70 and 25) and you're fine if the distance isn't too far. Northern Aurora is an absolute ****hole tho and should be avoided at all costs (except for a job).

Also look at Park Hill and/or Hale Mayfair (south of Colfax from Park Hill) as they would only be a 10 minute commute to the hospital 15 minutes from Down Town. I lived in that area for 4 years and loved it, but you don't get gouged price wise like Cheeseman, City Park, etc...

Rabb 07-18-2013 01:50 PM

If you are set on Aurora, go South East basically Centennial. If you don't mind the commute...Parker is amazing. I grew up in Aurora and some parts are worse, some better.

And PS you better join me tailgating if you do make it, you glorious bastard.

Yep, confirmed these would be good neighborhoods if you work at Anschutz

Your commute will suck ass if you live in Centennial. I-225 is the devil

Nah, depending on where you are there are plenty of quick back ways to get wherever you need to be. I live in Highlands Ranch now and still manage to avoid 225 like the plague.

Anschutz is near the X, I'd recommend living somewhere in the "circle"

edit: me personally, when I used to work in Stapleton, I loved living in Congress Park. It's close enough to both downtown and Stapleton (Anschutz) that a bike commute is completely feasible, or if you drive you pretty much never get stuck in traffic because you're on the city one-ways like 13th/14th 6th/8th travelling just a few miles. Instead of all the apartment building like in Cap Hill, Congress Park has much more single family dwellings and a lot of trees. Stretches along Hale/Mayfair also if you wanna be closer to work.

Are you black? If not I hope you are not racist towards them.

As for Anschutz- all I can tell you about it is two things.

1. I know a lady who works there as a nurse

2. My buddy and his construction company built it.

Neither of those will help you out, but this probably will.

Aurora sucks! Work there, DO NOT live there. that is all

Rabb 07-18-2013 05:31 PM

He's not black, he's Canadian.

Does anyone work or know anything about the Anschutz medical campus of CU?

I have been an administrator at University Hospital at AMC for 10 years.. I know everybody....

what do you want to know? AMC campus has some heavy hitting backing from donors, and is attracting world renowned talent in MD's and researchers... I used to live in Buffalo NY, one of my best friend loves in Richmond Hill Ontario- it is VERY different here than what you're used too, but in a good way... we don't have milk in bags, poutine or higher alcohol Labatt's or Molson, but you'll bet just fine... lol

Yes, live in Park Hill (where I live), Lowry, Stapleton, Congress Park... don't live in A-Town if you don't have too, and the area around AMC is really not very good (fun fact: James Homes lived across the street from my parking garage, and worked in the building next to mine... sick ****ing a-hole) Aurora is OK out south, so 80016, so like Parkers Road and Orchard Area is ok.... but that is near parker ad littleton, a good 20 minutes drive with no traffic.

PM me if you want,, glad to help...

It's where they do medical experiments on welfare recipients and prisoners. Also know for harvesting organs from not yet dead people. You'll have to sign a nondisclosure agreement and kill someone for their organs before thy will hire you but the benefits are good.

baja 07-18-2013 06:08 PM

PS are you OK with drinking a little blood now and then?

I rely on it for sustenance, mostly immigrants and the elderly but beggars can't be choosers.
