The "OFFICIAL" 2013 US Open thread

It's finally here. I can't wait. So much history at this course.

Here's an awesome video showing all the changes they made to the course for the open. Also so some nice info on the history of the course, facilities and even maintenance. They've narrowed many of the fairways and shaved some bunker edges close to the fairways so that balls will roll into the sand.

It is going to be a good test since nobody has played it before under these conditions Too bad I'm not going to see much since I'm taking a week long vacation. I already stated my picks but since this is the official thread I'll put them up again. Tiger wins easily is my prediction. My two other guys are GMAC and Tim Clark.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that with all this rain Rory's 72 hole score is going down. This rain can make it goofy enough that they field will have to play a couple holes on a different course due alto some washing out. I don't know if enough rain has fallen for that yet. Adam Scott said in his interview that scores are going to be low and course ripe for birdies.

I'm gonna say this is the year Phil doesn't finish 2nd place, he gets it done. The man has more 2nd place finishes in a US Open then anybody in the history of the game. Bottom line is he plays this tournament very well most of the time. He's got the amazing short game to get out of trouble around these really small greens with all the scrub rough around the bunkers. And with not having to hit driver as much as you would on a longer course, I think that really helps his chances.

Now the big question is, should I take that to Vegas? I did call the Scott win at the Masters and I was kicking myself for not throwing down $100.

Very unlikely to pick two winners of the 4 majors in my experience but you can't win if you don't play. It only counts if you throw money down on it.

I think I might throw $50 down on Phil and $50 down on Jason Day. It will make watching it that much more fun, haha.

You can't win if you don't bet. My biggest cash in was Phil's second masters. The problem for me was I had some bucks on Couples that would of paid big time had he won it. They were paired together in the final group of round 4 that year.

And Rory said he's hitting 7 drivers off the tee. So, obviously with how much they lengthened it plus the wet conditions and the ball not rolling out on the fairways, guys are hitting more drivers then we thought.

Looks like weather is going to ruin this tourney. There's 2 holes that will be completely submerged under water. Meanwhile the weather out west here is perfect. Gonna be no golf this week

06-13-2013 11:25 AM

Tim Clark played back nine first at 2 under. He should shoot a good front 9 now.

DBroncos4life 06-13-2013 04:28 PM

I don't like golf, but a kid from my HT is in the open. I hope he kicks ass.

Garcia Bronco 06-13-2013 04:48 PM

Second rain delay today. I didn't get to catch any coverage today. I think Phil landed there at 4 am this morning eastern and tee'd off at 7ish. Looking forward to the replay.

My picks were:

Day
Kuchar
Cabrera

I had to pick two more in our draft:

Zack Johnson
Dustin Johnson

Phil was omitted from the draft since we'd all pull for him if he's in the hunt.

This isn't the most prestigious Major
It's not the oldest
But it's the most brutal course setup IMO

Then it will be a good test for him!

ZONA 06-13-2013 08:28 PM

Oh yeah, had a gut feeling about Phil.

06-15-2013 03:51 PM

One of my picks Jason Day is having one of the best rounds of the day. Keep goin!

Edit: looks like I hexed him on the 18th

Love this golf course.

Great mix of birdie opportunities and tough holes to par. No real deception to it either, a very stern but fair test.

Great tournament too, a dozen or so players with a legit shot to win this thing. Sunday will be fun, would be amazing if Phil could finally do it.

06-15-2013 04:54 PM

Phil's looking good going into day 3 and Tiger is sucking tail. I'm happy. I just skimmed by the comments...but I like Mickelson's chances also. 1 back at 14 and all day tomorrow to kick some azzzzz..

SouthStndJunkie 06-15-2013 06:23 PM

I'd love to see Mickelson win.

Tiger is 10 shots back and basically out of it.

I think the last several years he's been putting way too much pressure on himself in majors.

Go Mickelteets!

The Joker 06-15-2013 06:26 PM

One shot lead going into Sunday.

Played the back nine brilliantly today, could easily have been a couple of shots better had some putts dropped. Even the 18th he hit two tremendous shots, was so unlucky his second ran through.

Reckon I might cry if he wins it, would be one of my favourite sporting winners ever.

06-15-2013 06:32 PM

Luke Donald blew an opportunity on that last hole. Pretty much the entire field has on that hole. I see Day coming strong tomorrow.

rbackfactory80 06-15-2013 07:21 PM

Anyone who is +6 or better has a chance tomorrow. I will be pulling for Mick but wouldn't not be surprised to see Schwartzel win.

06-15-2013 07:40 PM

Phil looks poised to win. I bet he wins.

Trying to get a get together over on the other page for a home game at Denver. You should put your input in DB. Yes..No..Maybe.....Gator, Utah and myself may make a road trip to the.....hopefully Redskins game. Lucas is going to organize it and Bleeds is in. So is Yi.
