OT-French Foreign Legion

Wow, I'm watching a documentary on the boot camp. I thought I was tough, I wouldn't last a day.

I picked up a book in the 80s called A Mouth full of Rocks. It was about a young Brits experience in the Legion. Some interesting tales in there.

Back in my USMC days I ran into a former high school friend in a Tangiers bar while on a med float in 1981....I heard from other friends at home that he had fell of the face of the map a couple years prior...ends up he was in the French Foreign Legion.

The hardiest of the hard I say

Legionnaire by Simon Murray is another one to read. They are some tough mofos

My friend was going to do this. He said it would have helped him start a career in international politics of all things. He ended up getting his knee hurt during his conditioning - just conditioning to be able to apply, mind you.

I actually saw the movie version of that. It starred Dirk Diggler, Reed Rothchild, Amber Waves, and Rollergirl.

Kaylore 06-05-2013 11:16 AM

How did this thread become a penis thread? Sirh and Blart aren't even here!

ghwk 06-05-2013 11:26 AM

Actually, it was the Bear Grylls special where he took some guys there to see what they were made of.

Sure you would. Once you do backpacking and lose your backpacking buddy and need to roll solo, your determination is set on making the FFL as a way to keep your mind off the loss of your mountain man acquaintance.

ROFL!

El Guapo 06-05-2013 01:14 PM

I've been told they have their own island resort once they retire. It's supposedly the safest place on earth. haha

Rohirrim 06-05-2013 02:27 PM

The SEALS would kick their asses. ;D

El Guapo 06-05-2013 02:36 PM

It would be a good fight, that's for sure.

NUB 06-05-2013 05:25 PM

The Foreign Legion is made up of all kinds of criminals, adventurers, and everything in between. Very disposable too. Unless things have changed, their weapons and gear are considered more important than their lives. It's like a modern day mercenary army sent to do the dirty work so nationalists don't have to, being the vanguard of operations in such nice locales as sub-Sahara Africa, southeast Asia, etc.

UberBroncoMan 06-05-2013 05:55 PM

I just can't get over how ****ing stupid their kepi hats/ceremonial attire are.

Among others

Broncos_OTM 06-05-2013 08:28 PM

Seals are elite of elite. They have been trained extremely well. That being said they are (ffl)not special forces. And I would put the FFL against any other basic infantry squad. ROK marines, SAS and seals are some bad mofos
