Keith Kidd released

Broncos director of pro personnel Keith Kidd was informed his contract would not be renewed.

Looks like it's just John Elway and Matt Russell now.

Lestat 05-01-2013 10:32 PM

my guess is someone will get promoted but Russell is obviously GM in training for when Elway buys the Broncos. :)

OBF1 05-01-2013 10:44 PM

never heard of the guy before this post. No big loss I guess.

Director of Pro Personnel isn't some small deal.

Don't worry Mike Holmgren will offer his services.

R8R H8R 05-01-2013 11:38 PM

This is curious. Officially, they say they will not renew his contract, but really he's essentially fired. He's a McD hire and I think he used to be part of the Pats at some time.

There's been 3 yrs. of pretty good Pro personnel movement here in Denver, so why fire him? Did he help screw-up fax gate? Did he help bring in Welker, and now they don't need him anymore? Or are they just cost cutting because Bowlen is both drunk & broke?

DBroncos4life 05-01-2013 11:45 PM

I'm sure Anthony Kelly will be the first in line for the job, I wouldn't mind seeing Chad Alexander from Balt being interviewed. No way does he ever jump Vincent Newsome (Ozzie's kid). Might be too young to be offered the job.

extralife 05-02-2013 02:40 AM

faxgate scapegoat, I guess.

It sounds very likely that this is the case. Also smart by the Duke to not fire him in the home stretch of the draft process. I bet you are 100% correct that this has everything to do with Dumervil, and not much at all to do with the draft. Just a measured, delayed response.

Eric DeCosta is next in line in Baltimore...

Keith had the fax the whole time

He is a former Patriot. No doubt completing his mission of destruction.

There is a story circulating around that the Pats really wanted Sly Williams w/the 29th pick, and when the Broncos nabbed him just before they did, someone from the Pats texted someone from the Broncos "you bastards, we wanted that guy!".

As we know, the Pats then traded out of the 1st round. Is Kidd the Broncos "someone", and who is the Pats "someone"? Is it McDaniels? Maybe Elway thinks they have a way too cozy a relationship between two bitter rivals.

Maybe, but I don't have anything else to do.

I know, Vincent Newsome is Director of Pro Personnel and Chad Alexander is the assistant. I don't see Chad moving up anytime soon. Just throwing out new young blood ideas.

I misunderstood, my bad DB.

or, they don't even fill his job. Elway may do something like he did w/ Xanders who was also released just days after the draft. He may just shift around existing guys to take over the grunt work of the job, and then Elway becomes the de facto "Director of Pro Personnel".

I don't know, I kind of think this is a position you need to fill. You can never have to many eyes scouting.

:cuss: Just kidding.

Chad's Bio

Chad Alexander was promoted to the teamís assistant director of pro personnel in 2009, following six years as an area scout covering three regions of the country for the Ravens. He works closely with director of pro personnel Vincent Newsome in evaluating NFL talent, providing advance scouting reports on upcoming opponents for the coaching staff, and assisting with free agent workouts. For eight years, Chad annually represented the Ravens at the NFL Draft in New York.

1999-2012: (with Baltimore) 2010: Ravens traded for Pro Bowl WR Anquan Boldin. 2009: Promoted to assistant director of pro personnel following the í09 draft...Team selected first-round draft pick T Michael Oher (Ole Miss) and third-round pick CB Lardarius Webb (Nicholls State) from Chadís í08 scouting region (Southeast). 2008: Alexander transitioned to the Southeast area after the NFL Draft in April. 2005-07: Spent three seasons as Baltimoreís Midwest area scout.

Elway already calls himself the "GM". Matt Russell became the "Director of Player Personnel" last offseason.

You're right, this is just streamlining the organization.

I know what you are saying, and agree wholeheartedly, but it is possible that like the Xanders role, maybe Kidd is an unnecessary figurehead.

In other words, if there are already plenty of "eyes that are scouting" and Kidd was basically just coordinating that and essentially was the designated greeter of prospects, then hell, Elway is a better greeter, and they can assign someone a lot cheaper to do the coordinating.

Maybe when he was asked about a certain potential draftee, he started his assessments with "Well on the Orangemane, they think we should draft......."
