OVERVIEW
A four-star prospect, King set a then-school-record for Habersham Central in Mount Airy, Ga. with 42 catches for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. He graduated early and enrolled at Georgia in January.
He appeared in four games in 2008, catching a pair of passes before redshirting and being named to the Director's Honor Roll for the fall semester. King was named the Bulldogs' Newcomer of the Year award for offense the following season, catching 18 passes for 377 yards and a touchdown while seeing action in 12 games, including nine starts.

As a redshirt sophomore, King started five of 12 games and caught 27 passes for 504 yards and three touchdowns, and earned the Athletic Director's Honor Roll distinction for the spring semester. He continued his ascent in 2011, starting 13 of 14 games and leading the Bulldogs with 47 catches for 705 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns. King continued to focus on academics as well, and again earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll distinction in the fall.

While King's receptions dipped to 42 last season, he set a career high with 950 yards - an average of 22.6 yards per reception. He also established a new career high with nine touchdown catches while playing in all 14 games, and earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS: Demonstrates great lateral agility, acceleration and generally reliable hands. Shows the stop-start-go elusiveness to consistently make defenders miss and enough straight-line speed to beat them over the top. His fluidity during drills at the Senior Bowl was also impressive, as he showed the foot quickness and balance to chop his feet and turn quickly. He was also the best on his squad at getting off press coverage.
WEAKNESSES: Weaknesses: Possesses a lean, almost skinny build, especially in his lower body. Inconsistent pass catcher. Occasionally allows easy passes to slip through his fingers as he attempts to make defenders miss before securing the ball. May be limited to lining up outside due to his lean frame.

COMPARES TO: Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers -- King has the agility and straight-line speed to achieve success in the NFL, but his lean frame and inconsistent hands may make him a better complementary option rather than a front-line starter.

22.6 yards per catch don't suck

Only if we passed on Ed Reed 2.0 to get him.

DBroncos4life 04-27-2013 12:28 PM

He was flat out sick in red zone drills at the senior bowl.

Rohirrim 04-27-2013 12:29 PM

Doesn't look that skinny to me.

Baba Booey 04-27-2013 12:30 PM

If he's Emmanuel Sanders-lite that would be awesome. Don't need him to be much more with all the other weapons around.

Skinny like Rod Smith.

I bet he is an upgrade over what we got out of Matt Willis over the last couple years..

Not bad for a fifth.

Peace Bubba!

SoCalBronco 04-27-2013 12:38 PM

Reminds me of McCaffrey...but with a better tan.

Rohirrim 04-27-2013 12:40 PM

Nice thing in the vid, he has to keep pulling up on the long passes. I guess Murray doesn't have much of an arm.

Has to be. Willis is turrible.

Decent route runner, called UGA fastest player, iffy hands. I like this pick, big upside.

razorwire77 04-27-2013 12:44 PM

Really liking this 5th round. King is going to make the team as a 4th WR. Goodbye Willis you scrub. Goodbye Caldwell.

Lolad 04-27-2013 12:52 PM

What about our UDFA's from last year??

Bey Bey
Decker
Welker
Stokley
King

Is Stokley not coming back ?

I also thought that Caldwell showed some real promise last year. Maybe I'm wrong.

Wait til King gets his first call from Peyton: "We'll be at the park. Sunrise." ;D

Lestat 04-27-2013 02:11 PM

Looks like darius watts frame wise. Hopefully his hands are better.

That would be Okay with King as a 4th WR when we spread the field with DT, Deck, Wes and Tavarres going deep down the sidelines. That's a nightmare scenario to cover regardless of the defense with Manning picking and choosing who to throw to with Montee in the backfield to block for Manning and provide a quick out pass catcher in the flats.

Would not want to have to stop that.

That WR line up would work for me along with Caldwell, Robinson or Orton .. which ever two of those guys makes the team. Could even go with 5 WR with Caldwell if he can still beat out the other two and then stash both Robinson and Orton (if he is still PS eligble?).

Then we have general facissimiles for each starting WR ready to go as backups. Stokely is an ideal replacement for Welker should he get dinged for any length of time, or just for a breather or a few special plays with both slots on the field at the same time.

Robinson is more or less a DT-like backup, though not yet at that level of skill of course but not chopped liver either and no doubt a lot better this year.

Either King or Caldwell could more or less fill in for Decker, if need be, and both Caldwell and King are good replacements for each other. Size, scheme and speed wise.

We will have a DEEP WR corp in any event, and I really hope Stokely can pony up for one more year... even if we have to go with 6 WR on the team. His leadership, knowledge and sync with Manning not to mention his very sure hands and great route running are a perfect compliment to Welker and give us unique depth in that key area for a QB and system like ours.

Hulamau 04-27-2013 02:33 PM

Isnt Willis already gone?? I dont see him on the roster list on DB.com?? No way he lasts with King drafted.

razorwire77 04-27-2013 02:45 PM

I don't get the Caldwell love. The guy didn't make the active roster most of the time and was like 6th WR on the depth chart behind crappy ass Matt Willis. As a 5th year pro be caught 8 balls for 18 yards last year. The guy is a bust for us. Cut him and cut Willis.
