The New York Jets have agreed in principle on a trade to send star cornerback Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay for undisclosed draft picks and the Buccaneers have agreed to a long-term contract that will make Revis one of the highest paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL, according to multiple sources.

Reach.

SimonFletcher73 04-21-2013 11:06 AM

Better them than us.

cutthemdown 04-21-2013 11:44 AM

Why do this when he is injured? Big risk for Tampa IMO.

Elway 4 Life 04-21-2013 11:46 AM

Huge risk! Bad decision imo.

Dr. Broncenstein 04-21-2013 11:47 AM

Business decision.

KipCorrington25 04-21-2013 11:50 AM

Dodged a bullet on this one... even if healthy he'll want a new contract in a year anyway.

UltimateHoboW/Shotgun 04-21-2013 11:53 AM

I don't like it. For the mere fact that Revis might help in a defeat against the Pats.

04-21-2013 11:56 AM

Goldson, Barron, and Revis....thats a pretty intimidating trio in the secondary right there.

Revis is 4 years older than Champ was when the Redskins traded him to the Broncos. Revis has 2-3 years of his prime left at the most. Not to say he won't be a solid player, as champ has been in his later years, but he is definitely not worth the money+trade pieces.

Sure if you only look at the last 2-3 years. Forget the life time he's been here.

Weak 1st round of 2013 draft and next yrs pick for a pro bowl talent CB seems like a worth while gamble for TB. The contract will be crazy no doubt.

DBroncos4life 04-21-2013 02:10 PM

Darrelle Revis - DB - Buccaneers

Bucs signed CB Darrelle Revis to a new six-year, $96 million contract that makes him the highest paid defensive back in NFL history in terms of annual average, but contains ZERO guaranteed money.
The Jets received (only?) the No. 13 pick in the 2013 draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2014 that can escalate to a third-rounder based on performance and playing time. The fact that Revis accepted NO guaranteed money is shocking. The compensation isn't quite what we anticipated either, making the Buccaneers the clear early winners of the Revis trade. Revis is obviously confident in the health of his reconstructed knee, so much so that going on age 28 he's willing to gamble on himself, accepting a pay-as-you-go contract with large but non-guaranteed base salaries. The Bucs could cut him as soon as 2014 if his recovery goes afoul. It's truly fantastic maneuvering by Bucs GM Mark Dominik.

No brainer trade if that's true excellent job Bucs.

rugbythug 04-21-2013 02:17 PM

6 for 96 not a good deal at all.

The Bucs. They will basically be giving him a franchise tag every season, they have no leverage to get him to renegotiate, all they can do is close their eyes and hope that contrary to every projection the salary cap will explode in 2 years and 16 million per season is no longer a **** ton of cash.

JCMElway 04-21-2013 02:31 PM

Tampa Bay sent its 2013 first-round draft pick (No. 13 overall) and a conditional 2014 pick that could become a third- or fourth-rounder.

Revis for a first and a third or fourth? At least they trade a starter for a starter.....

If they were smart, they should take one of their firsts and trade down to acquire some second and third round selections.

TDmvp 04-21-2013 03:19 PM

Revis to Bucs, signs 6-year deal. $96 million

SimonFletcher73 04-21-2013 03:26 PM

Bucs got raped two times in one day.

Requiem 04-21-2013 03:29 PM

Jets have some serious ammunition. Excited for the draft. Minnesota, New York and St. Louis all have two first-round picks.

Denver needs to get with the program and acquire more.

SimonFletcher73 04-21-2013 03:36 PM

San Francisco basically has two also. They have loaded up in free agency/trades too. Scary team.

Archer81 04-21-2013 03:51 PM

If Revis comes back to 100% TB will have a scary secondary. Useful thing to have, considering the offenses in the NFC South.

...and considering that their defense was #1 against the rush last year.

Lestat 04-21-2013 04:01 PM

so it's a 6 year deal, 96 mil with no guaranteed money. good deal for the Bucs.
