Pat Summerall, RIP
Dead at age 82.

Thank you for all the great calls and memories you helped create for a lifelong football/sports fan.

Employing a signature succinct staccato style that was brief and to the point, Pat Summerall grew into the pre-eminent network NFL voice for a generation of television viewers. Summerall has died at age 82.

The sound of his voice brings me back to a time of carefree. For that ill always be grateful

broncocalijohn 04-16-2013 03:39 PM

Boy, that sucks. Such a great voice on CBS. RIP!

Durango 04-16-2013 03:41 PM

What a crappy week. Jonathan Winters, the Boston nightmare and Pat Summerall. Damn.

Sorry to hear this. IIRC Pat overcame alcoholism too which could have killed him at a much earlier age, but he triumphed over that addiction, RIP Pat.

UberBroncoMan 04-16-2013 04:37 PM

A sad day.

TheElusiveKyleOrton 04-16-2013 04:59 PM

Sorry to hear the news. He really was the best.

broncosteven 04-16-2013 05:07 PM

I loved listening to Pat and Madden even when they were past their prime, they were a link to my youth that I never tired of.

bronco militia 04-16-2013 05:34 PM

yeah he was the perfect antidote for having madden. He rarely did broncos games because he mostly called the NFC games.

04-16-2013 05:39 PM

RIP Pat. I'm gonna go to happy hour here in San Diego and have one for you. He called the second superbowl victory for us here and I liked him with Madden a lot.

ZONA 04-16-2013 05:51 PM

We all will die someday. Hard to imagine what that day will be like. The moment where you're still alive but you know it's only for a few more moments as you slip away, provided you are not killed instantly by something.

razorwire77 04-16-2013 07:04 PM

RIP Pat. They seriously need to have every NFL broadcasting team (sans Collinsworth and Al Michaels) listen to about 12 hours of your tape from the 80's to see how a game should be called.

TheReverend 04-16-2013 07:07 PM

His voice reminds me of childhood. :(

Same here man , him and Enberg and Merlin Olsen was so the voices I hear if I think of how football sounded during the favorite year of my youth.

RIP Pat. I really enjoyed his work and I actually associate him with 90s Madden even more than Madden.

Old Dude 04-17-2013 07:12 AM

RIP to one of the game's greatest announcers.

Rohirrim 04-17-2013 07:15 AM

I like how, in his bio, it says he played for Arkansas - defensive end, offensive end, and kicker. Different game back then.
