George Gwozdecky fired? - hopefully April Fools

George Gwozdecky to Leave DU Hockey Bench after 19 years?

There are multiple sources.... any confirmation on this? I loved Gwozdecky... made us relevant, nice guy, great presence around campus.

Best record in college hockey during his tenure, with two national championships for my alma mater.

I hope this is an April Fools joke, but I would have to be pretty elaborate considering all the sources:

Shame. Big fan of DU hockey and Gordie will be hard to replace.

Why would they fire him? He's had the best record in the NCAA during his tenure, and as far as I know, he's the only current NCAA Div I hockey coach to have won two national titles.

I think the Avalanche would be smart to fire Sacco and pick up Gwozdecky.

The Avs would do well to gut that front office and coaching staff

Agreed

The organization has gone to **** since the addition of the cap and the retirements of Sakic, Roy and Forsberg.

and the sad thing is, there is actually good talent available. it isn't like the cupboard is bare. there are a good amount of young talented players on the roster

True. Still, goaltender has been a **** hole since Roy left. Varlamov hasn't been impressing and we gave up a 1st to get him.

It's a shame he couldn't keep it up with us.

I think the young core is something to build around but a new staff and direction is needed.

it is hard to say if Varlamov is good or bad. he gets shot at so much that goals are bound to happen. there was a game i think last month where he flirted with Roy's team record of shots against in a game(Roy's record was set in a triple OT playoff game) he almost broke that record in regulation. teams live in front of his net.
