You're doing it wrong...

They should save any remaining cap until after June 1st cuts. See if someone like Trent Cole gets cut loose due to scheme change.

the broncos could give most of Freeney his money in a signing bonus. The cap hit would be spread out evenly over the life of his contract.

fontaine 03-28-2013 09:50 AM

It's $8.8 million according to pft:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...s-of-march-26/

Another $4million when we cut Mays.

03-28-2013 09:55 AM

plenty of room to make another free agent move (or two), but it's probably better to save that money for all the key guys they need to resign next year and in 2015

We cant cut Joe, injury settlement needs to be agreed.

We could sign vets to 1 year deals

If you would have read the MHR article, it show $8.8 million, but $3.9 million is needed for our rookie pool.

that isn't really an issue. majority of John's free agent signings are on 1 and 2 years deals. several expire at the end of this season and even more at the end of next season. add in Doom's deal not on the books anymore. Champ's deal coming to a close after next season, and more than likely Peyton being out after the 2014 season, our cap situation will be fine.

No, he's right. Better to save half of the $14M rollover until 2014. I would consider adding Freeney on a one year $3M deal. Other than that, wait until after June 1st.

I wonder if Mays will use the couple hundred $K they settle on to buy a Hummer on his way home from cashing the check or if he invests it to live on either now or in retirement.

Mays will probably get about 500K ( maybe even more) to void out. Stupid to give the unguided missile a 3-4 year deal, like we did. One of the FOs real mistakes last year. One that needs to be rectified.

Also the LB we signed is a Special teams guru, which is the one thing that Mays could do passably well. We re-signed Bruton there also ( for STs). Which is why I think we should check out Karlos Dansby, as I suspect the Broncos are interested in upgrading MLB over Irving in case he doesn't pan out, and most everybody seriously doubts that Teo is a first round guy. Which means it is likely he will be there at 28.

I seriously hope we don't take Teo with our first as we still need to look to BPA, and he is not it at 28. Trade down might work to get him in the second, but he is not a 3 down player. I'd rather bring in a vet and wait for next year.

we probably wont sign anyone significant till after the draft if we do.

We are looking at Winfield.

Antione? I wonder why

03-28-2013 11:11 PM

winfield was the highest rated CB in the nfl last year according to PFF, just edging out sherman of the seahawks. He's a little old for deep coverage but he kills it on the short routes and run support. could be worth a look

I hope we get him. He was amazing last year, and maybe we can flip Carter to the Eagles for a DE that doesn't fit their scheme.

cutthemdown 03-29-2013 12:52 AM

Elway may be balking at what the rest of these vet defenders think they are worth. He will now concentrate of the draft. Then i bet we do have some money left to scoop up some players like we did koppen last yr. You have to be patient though you dont yet know what position will get dinged. We need to leave some room for an emergency.

You know something like every inside linebacker gets injured in preseason and we have no chioce but to take a chance on Urlacher. That is just an example though not something i am predicting.

03-29-2013 03:20 AM

Last year during or after training camp Denver signed Holliday, Koppen, Leonhard and Brooking. They need to just sit back and wait. Leave Freeney alone and concentrate on the draft and the spring/summer cuts that are coming.

cutthemdown 03-29-2013 03:22 AM

We can't pay Freeney what we were going to give Doom. IMO Freeny only worth about 4-5 mil a yr. What Osi got from Falcons was way too much IMO.

cutthemdown 03-29-2013 03:23 AM

Holiday kept us in the playoff game by himself. He's going to be a weapon teams fear to kick the ball at. We should have a play we line him up 30 yrds behind manning and just have him punt it to him lol. I jest please no PMS!

Requiem 03-29-2013 12:35 PM

Antoine Winfield has always been a great pro. He just has gotten very little press playing for the Bills and Vikings.
