Make The Call: DE

Most people seem to have a pretty strong opinion about this. Make the decision for John and put it in writing so we can see how smart you are ten months from now.

What would you do to replace Dumervil('s production)?

1. Sign Freeney
2. Sign Abraham
3. Sign Osi
4. 1st Round DE (Who?)
5. Go with what we have

poll coming

Sign Dansby and Abraham. And draft a DE

Requiem 03-24-2013 09:44 PM

Sign Karlos Dansby.

Sign John Abraham.

Draft a player, not necessarily in the first round.

If John Abraham is not signed (and we get a loser like Freeney) DE needs to be a top 3 round consideration!

I want Dansby as well. I also would inquire about Trent Cole before doing anything about DE right now.

Broncojef 03-24-2013 09:46 PM

Sign Freeney

Draft a RB LB DE/DT S (not neccessarily in that order)

i think even with Abraham or Freeney DE needs to be addressed in the 1st 3 or 4 rounds. at their ages, the most likely scenario is that they have 1 last season in them and we need a guy who can help some this season and learn from the vets and take over next season.

FireFly 03-24-2013 09:54 PM

It's unlikely but if we can do it with the money we didn't spend on Doom, I'd sign Abraham AND Freeney.

I could see Freeney and Abraham complimenting each others strengths and weaknesses within out scheme. It would also allow them to take more rests and so be more effective when they were out there.

After that I'd draft BPA in all rounds.

Br0nc0Buster 03-24-2013 10:07 PM

we are not signing dansby

I like Abraham out of what is left
but apparently we are going after brokedick Freeney

Per NFLN that is correct.............don't understand but hope they know more than we do...........

NFLBRONCO 03-24-2013 10:17 PM

Manning pined for Freeney

i agree about bringing them both in. start Abraham and make Freeney a situational specialist. obvious passing downs you bookend the DL with Freeney and Abraham and kick Wolfe inside with Ayers or Jackson and bring Von off the edge. that is a scary looking front to deal with.

The only thing we know, as far as I know, is that Manning sent him a harmless text that was the FA equivalent of "hey, we should get lunch sometime!" If freeney is the choice, its cuz our defensive staff likes him better. And, in this case, I'll trust the staff in their decision.

I dont think we really have enough roster spots for both. neither will play ST. We don't need both. I'm all for damontre moore in the first round though, and if Khaseem Greene drops to our second, that'd be a pretty boner draft.

Tombstone RJ 03-24-2013 10:38 PM

I thought Osi signed with the falcons?

pricejj 03-24-2013 10:56 PM

I'll take 'the Broncos **** the bed' for $200 please Alex.

Tombstone RJ 03-24-2013 11:07 PM

meh, if the Broncos can bring in Abraham then great, if not, they can draft a solid DE with the first pick of the draft, either that or a DT that might force a double team which will effectively make one of our DEs better.

UltimateHoboW/Shotgun 03-24-2013 11:08 PM

I voted for John Abraham because of this:

Quote:

Player...........Pass Rush Snaps...Sacks....Hits ...Hurries .......PRP
Abraham.......417......................10 .......8 ......38 ..............10.67%
Freeney........414 .....................5 .........9 ......33 ...............8.82%
Umenyiora....409 .....................6 .........7 ......32 ...............8.62%
Dumervil.......489 ....................12 ........11 .....37 ...............9.82%
Robert Ayers.208 ......................2 .........9 ......12 .................8.53%

Sign Freeney or Abraham for short term and look at drafting a DE.

BroncoBuff 03-25-2013 02:59 AM

My opinion is sign Abraham, more tread on the tires than Freeney.

Prediction is they'll sign Freeney .... Manning supposedly wants him.

Broncoman13 03-25-2013 06:03 AM

I'd take Freeney. Abraham would be fine as well. I think Freeney has something to prove, he played out of position last year. The year before they were out of most games so he didn't get to rush the passer as much. Either way, I am not too worried about losing Doom on the field as far as production goes.

SpringStein 03-25-2013 06:41 AM

Too early in the am - meant to vote for Freeney and hit Abe instead.

Why would you say that? Doom was always going where he was going to get the most money

TheElusiveKyleOrton 03-25-2013 08:04 AM

Freeney's had a slow, steady decline in play.

Abe hasn't.

Nothing wrong with Abraham other than age, but if you are using these last year stats alone to make your decision Im extremely glad you are not working with Elways at Dove Valley on this matter!

Last year Freeney was miscast as a 3-4 OLB, something his fast off the line hand in the dirt style his whole career was unsuited for. He also missed two games and was greatly slowed by the same injury in three others last season that all combined limited him to still fairly good 8.5 sacks.

Either Abraham or Freeney will be able to make up for Doom's production fine with our Dline and Von roaming the line and with neither guy facing a double team all year courtesy of Von ... That is a luxury that neither guy has ever much enjoyed in either of their careers.

Freeney will be highly motivated, if he is the guy we sign, rejoining Manning and finally on a Championship calibre defense again and, if he stays healthy, will easily resume his 11 sack a game average from years 2008 through 2010 before the Colts imploded in 2011 without Peyton and Freeneys sack total dropped to 8.5 and again lady year when he was stuck at 3-4 OLB and working through an injury limiting him to 5 sacks.

Not intending to specifically pick on you, Buff, but this "Manning wants him" thing has been blown way out of proportion. PM made some positive comments about a former teammate. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm sure if PM vouches for the guy it would be a positive, but it isn't going to be the deciding factor. It's going to be who they like better and $$$.
