Nixon wanted handgun ban

Leftist/socialist President Richard Nixon apparently wasn't a big fan of gun rights. Damn liberals!!!

Quote:

Few presidents in modern times have been as interested in gun control as Richard Nixon, of all people. He proposed ridding the market of Saturday night specials, contemplated banning handguns altogether and refused to pander to gun owners by feigning interest in their weapons.
Several previously unreported Oval Office recordings and White House memos from the Nixon years show a conservative president who at times appeared willing to take on the National Rifle Association, a powerful gun lobby then as now, even as his aides worried about the political ramifications.

"I don't know why any individual should have a right to have a revolver in his house," Nixon said in a taped conversation with aides. "The kids usually kill themselves with it and so forth." He asked why "can't we go after handguns, period?"

Nixon went on: "I know the rifle association will be against it, the gun makers will be against it." But "people should not have handguns." He laced his comments with obscenities, as was typical.

Do we need to post "Another One Bites the Dust" every time a former Republican hero's views are made public and the right immediately disavows any association?

Nope. Merely pointing out an inconvenient truth to your ilk.

Never voted for Bush. Don't worship Obama.

You're batting .000, as expected.

**** isn't as full of **** as you are.

You will never agree with someone all the time unless you are a liberal. They blindly follow whoever the media tells them to. Obama could **** in his hand and throw it at the crowd and you would all love it.

Facts state otherwise, as this message board, and in particular the thread where you stupidly anthropomorphized robot-kind, clearly demonstrate.

But anyway, do you actually have a relevant comment to add, or do you just enjoy doing your best impression of that kid from Thirtysomething?

Elvis gave Tricky Dick a gun in exchange for a Federal narc badge. Ha!

Kennedy would be a right ring wackjob by today's standards.

Rohirrim 03-10-2013 03:48 PM

Beyond these two great issues of the day, JFK created the Peace Corps, initiated the "space race" which put a man on the moon in 1969, advocated on mental health issues, and worked with Congress on affordable housing, equal pay for women, and a host of other agendas.
In the economic arena, JFK is remembered for his tax cuts, particularly by Republicans eager to claim their share of his memory. Often forgotten is the uneasy relationship he had with big business. The most dramatic moment came in April 1962, when Kennedy took on Big Steel, forcing rollback of price increases which he declared were not "in the public interest."

Reagan would be a left-wing whackjob by today's GOP standards.

Liberals think everyone else is like them and must kiss the ass of every single politician that is supposedly "on their side" and must agree with every bill or idea they want. Liberals do that with the democrats since it requires no thinking and they like a world where everybody stays in their groups and labels. This is why they constantly attack homosexual republicans and minorities who are not democrats. They dared to stray from their group.

Thanks for the stupidly ironic comment of the day, barryr.
