Is next year more like 97 or 06 ?

We all know what happened after a heart wrenching defeat in 96 playoffs and we all know how we sucked in 06 after losing in AFC Championship game ?

I know which way I think we are going and I am not just homering here. We have the pieces and need a few improvements but I feel we are much closer to the 96 loss than the 05 loss in as far as moving forward ?

What do you think ?

'97 b****!!!!!

razorwire77 03-05-2013 01:41 PM

97. Even the 06 Bronco team would rape the rest of the pathetic current AFC west teams.

if Elway benches our good QB in favor of his crowned prince and then dismantles the team than we can say he Shanahaned it and gave us a new version of the 06 Broncos. but seeing as we look to be searching for that missing piece i'd say we are trying to go the way of the 97 Broncos.

Manning and the offense should only get better this year with a full season behind them. They can break down tape and see what they need to improve on and how teams have played certain plays.

I think we need a better running game (and that means better backs and better line blocking) and honestly the defense was pretty good all year, just made too many mental mistakes when you could least afford them. Same with the offense, a full year under JDR we can go back and look at tape and improve things for the defense.

I don't think the Broncos are looking for major changes here, and why would they. I think a few tweaks and a few upgrades along with who we already have being able to look at tape we will be an improved team.

This.....

Unless Elway decides to start over by benching Manning for Ozzy, we're obviously going to be contenders this year.

An interesting parallel is that Kubes was the OC and he got a HC job after 06 season, after they made it to the AFC championship with a 13-3 season. This year we also lose the OC after making to the ACF Championship after going 13-3. (I personally think that was the ultimate undoing of the offense and Plummer)

I think it is different this time around though.

broncosteven 03-05-2013 04:41 PM

Next year will be like 1998 we will go 19-0

Only if we get better at RB and in the middle of the D.

...we didn't make it to the AFC championship game this past season. Just saying.....

Irish Stout 03-05-2013 04:53 PM

****ing depends on how Fox and Gase feel about kneeling on the ball with 37 seconds left on the clock. That being said - we should be playoff bound if we stay healthy based on the utter trash in California and Missouri.

There's gotta be a good RB to be picked up in the 6th round or so... someone who gets migraines and is under the radar.

That would put us back to 1995...

I will take someone in the 3rd (if we still have it) or maybe we can land a FA who can take over games and run clock.

Let's just hope it's not like '86 or '87

gunns 03-05-2013 06:40 PM

97. No doubt. Too many similarities to 97. The 2006 team had some good players, some lousy ones, and Jake Plummer. This is a good team now with a couple of missing pieces, like 97, and the devastation of this loss will provide the same good lesson it did in 97. And people said in 97 I was nuts for thinking the Broncos would be holding the Lombardi at the end of the season and they are saying it again. I love being nuts!

I believe this as well. I sincerely hope Elway hones in one some key free agents...............

I would imagine John Elway can see the similarities as well...........

Take advantage of this window of opportunity................

I believe that's where we have to hit the mark as far as missing pieces, FA. If we want to win now we have to replace some pieces with FA. A new WR to replace Stokely (Amendola), a DT (possibly Terrence Knighton), a safety (Yeremiah Bell or Delmas, would love Moore) maybe even MLB (Ellerbee, Ruud, or Lenon). RB can be picked up in draft, also OL, also MLB. I know these are probably pipe dreams but I do believe FA is the road to the SB and I think John remembers that. And restructure Doom's contract, it's ridiculous and puts us in a precarious place with Miller next year.

Elway, Plummer, and Manning

1 isn't like the others. I'll leave it up to you to decide.

I fully expect 2 Superbowl in the next 2 years. :approve:

If the team mirors the fanbase at all I'm thinking the Broncos are going to be hungary and really pissed off in 2013.
