Keith Burns hired from Broncos by Mike Shanahan at Washington

Keith Burns, a longtime special teams player for Mike Shanahan, is now Shanahan's special teams coordinator.

Burns, 40, was hired Monday by Shanahan-coached Washington to become their special teams coordinator.

A standout linebacker at Oklahoma State, Burns was a seventh-round draft choice of the Broncos in 1994.

He played for the Broncos from 1994-98, 2000-03 and 2005-06. He also played for Chicago in 1999 and Tampa Bay in 2004. He had 231 special teams tackles in his 13-year NFL playing career.

He served as the Broncos' assistant special teams coordinator since 2007.

I always appreciated what Keith Burns brought to the Broncos. Glad to see him moving up in the NFL.

Good for Keith. He was the last guy on our team, player or coach, who won a superbowl as a Bronco.

He's not a coach.

Wonder if he is bringing the golden boots to DC?

Kaylore 02-12-2013 02:41 PM

Did you guys know that Keith went to the high school from Remember the Titans and his coach was Bill Yoast, from the movie? I got to meet him at camp a few years ago.

RedskinBronco 02-12-2013 02:44 PM

I'll take it.

He is a DC local guy. As Kaylore mentioned, he went to TC Williams.

He was Denver's Assistant ST Coordinator. Basically the understudy to the real deal. Now he gets to be the guy!

It seems like he was there forever, too. 2007-2012 is quite a long time to sit on as an assistant.

I was hoping Burns would take over as ST coordinator with Fox coming in, but he stayed as assistant.

I wasn't too fond of bringing in Jay Rodgers, but with the way our special teams has been, I can't complain.

Yeah, it pisses me off that he is younger than me.... Oh where has the time gone?
