Champ says Miller on pace for DPOY
And, after watching what linebacker Von Miller did against Carolina Sunday, Bailey matter-of-factly tossed Miller's name into the league's defensive player-of-the-year race.
"I don't ever like to get ahead of myself," Bailey said. "It's important to keep things where they need to be, but I really can't say he's not playing better than anybody right now. Because he is playing better than anybody right now. It's amazing what he's doing. He just needs to stay the course, and it will all work itself out. But I'm glad I'm around to see him do what he's doing" Read more: Champ Bailey urging Broncos to stay focused, calm during win streak - The Denver Post http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci...#ixzz2C1KbYxvq Read The Denver Post's Terms of Use of its content: http://www.denverpost.com/termsofuse |
So why wasn't Von credited with 2 sacks yesterday? The 3rd and 2 where he leveled Newton behind the LOS should have been #2, no? Were they counting that as a rush attempt since Newton did make a move toward the LOS that indicated it was a designed run?

Ya I assumed it was 2 sacks for Von as well. Maybe the league will adjust it after they review the game as they always do. |
Definition of Sack
The league defines a sack as tackling the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage while he is attempting to pass. All three elements must be present. It has to be the quarterback, not another player taking a handoff or pitch and throwing an option pass. It has to be behind the line of scrimmage; a quarterback who is chased across the line is credited with run yardage. And the quarterback must be trying to pass; designed run plays that are stopped behind the line of scrimmage are not considered sacks. (if the intent of the QB is unclear it would be counted as a sack as well). |

Yeah, after this past game, if Von continues to play like that...hot damn.
That was the best I've ever seen of him. He was disrupting everything. |
He's closing ground between Tillman and Watt for sure.

It's legit to talk about Von getting DPOY and Manning getting OPOY & MVP

Miller does it in a much flashier fashion than anyone right now. His hits really stand out and is unblockable at times. I know I about puked when he was down on the ground early in the game. Even when Steve Smith jacked him up I was worried. He is the one guy along with Manning that must stay healthy.

Even Von was feeling sorry for them after that one! |
The Panthers line was run blocking, that was a clearly designed run

Von Miller got tired of dancing! Too easy!!!

I posted this fact in another thread ..
Patrick Smyth @psmyth12 Thru 9 gms, V.Miller only player in NFL w/10+sacks & 10+run TFLs. In last 20 yrs, this has been done only 19 times over an entire season. |
Von was in all out beast mode yesterday. Just need other players to setup and become somewhat of a presence with doom out so teams cannot completly focus in on Miller. But having Von able to line up all over the field will also help his matchups, especially since he has the strength to also stunt up the middle, i.e., he's not just a one dimensional outside rusher when he's coming on the pass.

Clearly I started the AP for comeback player hype.

If Peterson keeps up with his current pace he could be flirting with history.
