Wish we had someone better than Mays. Still not missing DJs tackles 5-10 yards up the field. Woodyard, Brooking, and the rest of the committee are doing that just fine

SoCalBronco 10-10-2012 10:29 PM

Haha....nice. Go Req...and go DJ! :)

~ 10% of DJ's tackles last year were for loss. Five others were sacks. You were saying?

10-10-2012 10:39 PM

It's not our fault he drives drunk and sends his dog's urine to the NFL.

SoCalBronco 10-10-2012 10:40 PM

Lonestar being trolled hard.

Good stuff.

broncocalijohn 10-10-2012 10:46 PM

So Req and SoCal, please explain to us why he isnt playing right now? Contract dispute? Injuried?

This is one of those times when it is best to shut the **** up and realize "your boy" is not playing because of his own stupid fault. If he was so much better than Mays or anyone else, he would have made sure to be the #1 guy and not be a **** up.

How dare DJ tackle someone that others missed!

HAT 10-10-2012 10:48 PM

Mays > DJ

bronco militia 10-10-2012 10:48 PM

why did the Broncos resign Mays for 3 more years at $12 million?

He is gone next year with a 500k cap hit.

Well he's obviously an idiot, but what's your point?

Denver's defense would be better with him on the field.

Br0nc0Buster 10-10-2012 11:18 PM

Do I wish DJ was on the field?
Yes

But that would require him to not act like a retard

Joe Mays has a better chance of covering a tight end than that happening

Lighten up, Francis. No one is contesting the reason why he isnt playing. He's obviously made some poor choices and the union has somehow agreed to let a viper into its bosom by unwisely giving away the store to the Commissioner. Those are the principal reasons.

But I'm enjoying seeing lonestar get trolled nonetheless.

Never understood how a douchebag like DJ is still applauded after acting like a douche bag?

DJ is a much bigger embarrassment to the Broncos than Joe Mays is even if he misses tackles. Not to mention it's nobody's fault but DJ's that he is suspended. I hope the Broncos revamp the entire LB corps save for Miller and Woodyard next season.

10-10-2012 11:43 PM

If you watch any of the games last year you'll see how valuable DJ is to the team. He might not be the playmaker we'd all like but he does tackle well, he is fast and he can cover TEs very well. If he comes in ready to go he could be a valuable addition the remainder of the season and the playoff push. The big question is, will he be ready to go?

DJ 2011 full season
90 tackles(70 solo), 5 sacks, 3 FF, 0 INT

DJ had he not missed 3 games stats
111 tackles(87 solo), 6 sacks, 3 FF, 0 INT

DJ through 5 games 2011
30 tackles(22 solo), 2 sacks, 1 FF, 0 INT

-------------------------------------------------------------

WW through 5 games
37 tackles(25 solo), 2 sacks, 0 FF, 1 INT
WW averaged out for season
119 tackles(75 solo), 6 sacks, 0 FF, 3 INT

Brooking through 5 games
17 tackles(9 solo), 0 sacks, 1 FF, 0 INT
Brooking averaged out for season
55 tackles(28 solo), 0 sacks, 3 FF, 0 INT

Through the first 5 games of DJ's season last year and the 2 guys who have taken his position the first 5 games this year, DJ has been eclipsed. Not only that but his replacements are on pace to better his season total.

I couldn't find the tackles for loss stat. (Working on my phone) So I will have to take your word for it.

Also I don't expect WW to get 2 more INTs since our LB corps averages maybe 1 a year, but causing a couple FF wouldn't surprise me.

They may not have his natural ability but his athletic prowess over his replacements isn't so great that he is missed or that his douchebaggery should be overlooked

Not so sure about that. 500k cap hit. I say draft his replacement (Te'o!!!) and keep him as a short yardage/goal line/ST guy. In obvious running plays he is a vicious tackler and hitter, and thr majority of his career he has been a standoit special teamer. Plus he is a good character guy.

Te'o is out of reach in the draft.

What? In obvious running plays, Mays misses the tackle when he is fortunate enough to hit the right gap. He should be no more than a seventh, mostly inactive LB on the roster.

A guy can dream. Hell, at different points the last couple years Burfict was seen as a possible top 10 pick. Guys could rise and he could fall.

In obvious running plays where he can be a straight line guy (namely short yardage or goal line rushes) not arguing his pursuit skills suck and in most regular situations he constantly hits the wrong gap.

Te'o seems to be a classic MLB (I don't think he can play at OLB, but I could be wrong there). Here's the average draft position of the first MLB/ILB in the draft since we lasted picked Al Wilson (a.k.a., the last MLB we were all happy with):

2012: 9th overall (Luke Kuechly)
2011: 67th overall (Nate Irving)
2010: 8th overall (Rolando McClain)
2009: 15th overall (Brian Cushing)
2008: 10th overall (Jerod Mayo)
2007: 11th overall (Patrick Willis)
2006: 5th overall (AJ Hawk)
2005: 17th overall (David Pollack)
2004: 12th overall (Jonathan Vilma)
2003: 29th overall (Nick Barnett)
2002: 23rd overall (Napoleon Harris)
2001: 11th overall (Dan Morgan)
2000: 9th overall (Brian Urlacher)
1999: 28th overall (Andy Katzenmoyer)

I'd say that Manti Te'o's college career could probably be favorably compared with some of the better linebackers on the list -- but where he ends up being drafted really all depends on how he tests at the combine.

Realistically, we're probably going to need to be in slots 8-10 to draft him. If we end up making the playoffs, that means it would probably cost us a 1st and a 2nd round choice to move up and take him. Is it worth it? Given the need and the fit, I would say yes.

I wish DJ was back on the field yes.

I wish even more that he had never acted like a douche and gotten another DUI, suspension etc etc in the first place.
