Inside the Investigation of Leading Republican Money Man Sheldon Adelson

If you needed enough money to pick whoever you wanted to run the justice department, what lengths would you go to get that money?

Quote:

Internal email and company documents, disclosed here for the first time, show that Adelson instructed a top executive to pay about $700,000 in legal fees to Leonel Alves, a Macau legislator whose firm was serving as an outside counsel to Las Vegas Sands.

The company's general counsel and an outside law firm warned that the arrangement could violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. It is unknown whether Adelson was aware of these warnings. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act bars American companies from paying foreign officials to "affect or influence any act or decision" for business gain.

Adelson has apparently spent $54 million on this election.

Las Vegas Sands likely violated US corruption act

Surprise! The GOP is indeed bankrolled by crooks.

Just one more solid reason to have public funded elections.....and mercifully, on a much shorter timeline.

W*GS 03-05-2013 07:31 PM

We won't hear a peep from the usual suspects. As far as they're concerned, conservatives are incapable of being sleazy scumbag ****wad crooks.

But the reality-based universe knows better.

Money has completely corrupted our political system from top to bottom. Politicians will do whatever they have to do to get elected. Special interestes will buy any politicial willing to take their money. Voters vote for candidates who promise the most hand outs. It's a ****ing joke and we did it to ourselves. Republicans, democrats, conservatives and regressives. To believe anything else is dishonest at best.

Yep. Amazing how they don't get pissed off until their guy (who wasn't able to win them the election) gets outed, and then they're pissed off at the whole system.

$10 says if they had won the election, they'd be defending where they got the money.

Or maybe they're just pissed because it really is the whole system.

Maybe.

But in your case and Dukes' case I can say with absolute certainty that is not true.

Maybe. I'm not really pissed. Power corrupts. May as well be pissed off that the sun rises in the East. :)

You are pissed off that the sun rises at all, moondweller.

Who is it you think I voted for?

Imagine this. Hillary Clinton, Andrew Cuomo, Elizabeth Warren and multiple lesser Democratic notables travel halfway across the country to kiss the ring of a Palestinian-American billionaire who has shown himself willing to spend tens of millions of dollars subsidizing presidential campaigns. The billionaire has some provocative views. Six months earlier, he suggested that if Israel does not end its nuclear weapons program, America should drop an “atomic weapon…in the middle of the [Negev] desert that doesn’t hurt a soul.” If that doesn’t work, America should drop “the next one…in the middle of” Tel Aviv. The billionaire insists that there is no such thing as the Jewish people. It’s a hoax; the Jews “have fooled the world very successfully.” And he declares that “There isn’t a” Jew “alive who wasn’t raised on a curriculum of hatred and hostility toward the” Palestinians.

Change the words “Democrat” to “Republican,” “Israel” to “Iran” and “Palestinian” to “Jewish,” and that’s exactly what just happened. Leading contenders for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination spent last weekend wooing and feting a billionaire, Sheldon Adelson, whose views – if directed at Jews—would put him in the company of Louis Farrakhan and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

I'm thinking someone put a halt to his "stay at home dad status" and spending all day on the keyboard telling others how to live. I hope he's out in the real world of paying taxes and bringing home some bacon.

cutthemdown 04-09-2014 05:07 PM

Good thing our govt doesn't have to follow that rule. They give money out all over the place to get the results they want.

cutthemdown 04-09-2014 05:09 PM

There was an emergency at the movie theater and Houghtam had to go back to work. Turns out he is the only one who knows how to clean the popcorn machine.

I'd probably have that attitude towards him too if he had routinely kicked my ass in here like he did with you.
