Who will be the Orange Mane Survivor?!
Welcome to the Orange Mane Survivor Thread.

No prize for winning, except for bragging rights and personal enmity.

Each 48 hours, each contestant may PM me with 1 vote to kick one other contestant off the “island.” I will announce any changes to the schedule.

You may not vote for yourself.

You will be allowed to abstain once and only once, and the abstention must occur during the first 6 rounds. If you miss a vote after round 6, or if you miss more than 1 vote in the first 6 rounds, you will be automatically eliminated, in addition to whoever was eliminated by the majority vote. Voting past the deadline or voting for someone who has already been eliminated or voting against your Master of Ceremonies, or voting against someone who has won immunity are all illegal and will be counted as missed votes.

All voting will be in PMs to me (and secret to that extent) but all votes will be made public after they are tallied.

You can make whatever alliances you want, but you can break them at will and backstab anyone whenever it suits you.

After the first 6 persons are eliminated, there will be “immunity challenges.” These will be fairly simple and reasonably objective. For example: “Guess the winner, total points scored and total number of free-throws missed in the Lakers-Rockets game on such and such a night.”

I do not care who wins, or how you conduct yourselves, so long as we don’t get banned. You may, of course, bribe or blackmail other players for their votes, to your heart’s content. The general rules for posting at the Orange Mane apply. No porno, no blatant spamming. Good-natured taunting and ridiculing in the context of the game is okay. But keep it within the game. Use your common sense.

The final winner will be determined by a jury vote from persons who have been previously eliminated. This does not necessarily mean all 14 previous "victims."

In that regard, the only thing that really counts are the ratings, and so I reserve the right to change any or all of the rules at any point in time to drive up the ratings.

In cases of tied votes to eliminate someone, the person who has the most total previous votes against them will be shipped off the island. I will refer to these as "wounds" and will keep a running tally. If that is also tied, the next tiebreaker will be "scalps." You earn a "scalp" when you have successfully participated in voting someone else off the island in the round in which they were eliiminated. I will keep a tally of these as well. If that is also tied, I will devise a "sudden death" tiebreaker..

All discussion concerning the contest, including announcements, taunting, mocking, vote tabulations, etc., will be confined to this thread unless otherwise noted.

Once you are eliminated, you are dead. You cannot be voted back onto the island. However, that doesn't mean you won't have your chance for revenge. Bwahahahahhaaa!

I will NOT generally announce the trend or the status of any particular vote until it is done. That way, no one should expect an information advantage by withholding their vote until the last possible second. What I might do, if I want to speed things up, is announce who has voted and who we are still waiting on. But once the deadline is passed, it has passed.

Any dispute about any of the rules is in my total discretion. Do not screw with your host.

Non-players generally do not get to vote, but are welcome to post comments to this thread. So if you're not a player, settle back with your popcorn. It's all about the ratings. There may be a round later in the game when the public gets to vote for something. So entertainment value is a plus.

And now, our fearless All-Star cast of players:

1. CBF1
2. DBroncos4life
3. Mile High Shack
4. watermock
5. TD30
6. Spider

9. AlecRaenos
10. TheDave
11. bendog
12. Crushaholic

Old dude and others,

I'd set you up a vbookie if you'd like, what are your thoughts on that?

Make everyone a straight up 5-1 odd to win or something so theres no favoritism(unless you want it that way, then I can make up my own lines.)

But it could jsut add some more fun with this game.

MajikMan7 03-16-2005 07:20 PM

Hey Alec you better enjoy this sweet sixteen cause your Jayhawks aren't gonna get to the sweet sixteen this year, they're going down on Sunday to my Badgers. Thats if they can even beat Bucknell.

Hey Old Dude...can I change my vote?

Old Dude 03-16-2005 07:23 PM

Fabulous idea, DenFan!

I will say this much. In my experience, most of the "action" in this game occurs in the PMs between the players. So from a spectator's point of view, you don't get as much as you'd like. Still, players should be encouraged to come out on stage once in awhile.

Part of the fun is predicting who will get it and who will get it next, and there are always surprises.

Old Dude 03-16-2005 07:26 PM

On changing votes:

I greatly discourage this. My PM box is going to fill fairly rapidly, and it is hard to keep up with stuff when votes change.

I will allow ONE VOTE CHANGE one time, but it must be done within the next hour. This very evening. After that, ALL VOTES ARE FINAL.

MajikMan7 03-16-2005 07:29 PM

um... who should I vote for ?

Rock Chalk 03-16-2005 07:29 PM

I was just kidding.

The wheels are already in motion and the first victim has already been targeted...

FADERPROOF 03-16-2005 07:36 PM

Place some vbets down on who will win it all!

Yeah I feel bad for him kinda. But really its probably more painful to get voted off closer to the end than right away.

Old Dude 03-16-2005 08:03 PM

Sometimes, getting voted off early is a sign of fear and respect from the other players.

Or not. :)

MajikMan7 03-16-2005 08:17 PM

Old Dude,I've got a question about the voting. Now once all the votes are in on Saturday at noon will you post the vote totals everyone got or will you post who voted for who?

Old Dude 03-16-2005 08:26 PM

General notes & tips:

If I don't respond immediately to your vote, don't worry. Sometimes, I won't resond at all. I will PM anyone whose vote I have questions about before the tally.

On Alliances: these are two-edged swords. If you are in one, you can make yourself a target. They also restrict your choices. But if you aren't in one, you can make an even more attractive target, becase you can be attacked without fear of retribution from your pals. And you can have different "levels" of alliances.

You can play dumb. Act like you're busy. Pretend you're confused.

But information is power.

Lack of information is vulnerability.

If no one is PMing you, you're probably the target for a dogpile.

If they are PMing you, they are probably setting you up.

It's always a bad sign when someone's mailbox is full.

Be careful what you write in PMs. Some people will save or forward what you wrote (after a certain amount of creative editing, of course)

You can always solicit alliances right on the main thread. That's a good way to get allies.

That's a good way to become ground zero, too.

Until the votes are added up, they are top secret.

But once I post who gets kicked off, the votes will be listed for all to see.

So you will know exactly who is shooting at you. And whoever you shoot at will know what you did. But not until after a victim has been declared for that particular round.

That's one of the reasons why there are penalties for voting for yourself or abstaining. You can only get away with not making an "enemy" one time.

OBF1 03-16-2005 08:59 PM

I am already having 2nd thoughts about this game. Who wants to be my "Amber" lol

Old Dude 03-16-2005 09:13 PM

Hmmn. Looks like we have some early bets laid down in the bookie forum on Sideburn & Clockwork Orange.

Rascal 03-17-2005 07:34 AM

This is going to be hillarious.

Mile High Shack 03-17-2005 07:42 AM

In case the question comes up, voting against yourself counts as an abstention.

Everyone is allowed one abstention during the first 6 rounds. But if you abstain twice (due to missing a vote, casting an illegal vote, formally abstaining, etc.) you are eliminated from the contest and ineligible to act as a juror later on.

Mile High Shack 03-17-2005 08:43 AM

Don’t fear me, I’m only quasi-evi
