Broncos vs. Chiefs - Matchup Articles

There should be several of these articles/columns coming out today/tomorrow, so I thought it would be good to create a centralized thread for most of them.

SI - MMQ - Peyton vs. Perfection (Andy Benoit)

ESPN - Double Coverage (Jeff Legwold/Adam Teicher)

The Tanier article was really good, I posted it yesterday but it didn't get much run. And of course that goof Tombstone RJ predictably thought it sucked lol.

I liked this from the Benoit article:

Quote:

There’s a perception that Denver’s defense is iffy, maybe even porous. That’s only because its two bad performances happened to coincide with the team’s two most-watched games: Week 5 at Dallas, and Week 7 at Indy. Take out those contests and this group is allowing a respectable 21.6 points per game.

The Chiefs lack the same offensive firepower that the Cowboys or Colts have. Their system hinges on Jamaal Charles being able to turn the outside corner in the ground game, and converting a few screens into first downs.

I liked the All-22 showing Alex Smith missing wide open receivers from the Benoit article as well... haha

Rep. I really like this idea of putting articles each week in one place and then people recommending good ones to read.

crush17 11-14-2013 11:02 AM

Nice Irish Stout, I agree. Moving forward, I will do my best to start a thread each Monday for Broncos vs. "This week's opponent" articles.

good lord you are a tard. I mocked it as as a well researched article because it called Justin Houston James Houston. I also pointed out that I don't think kc's CBs have really been tested. Other than that I said nada about it.

He cannot get it down there that far with accuracy. He went for the route he thought his arm could complete

Right. You usually have nothing worthwhile to say. Only criticism. Everyone/everything SUCKS!!!

Jetmeck 11-14-2013 01:03 PM

Good article, Smith is 2-23 if you score 25 or more points.

Everybody here including dumbass Chiefs know the drill.

We will get up by multiple scores and I will enjoy the Chiefs flailing about

like a fish out of water. They cannot score enough.

Hot damn, that's a telling stat.

CBSSports - Broncos vs. Chiefs (Pat Kirwan)
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/...chiefs-defense

"Denver will take full advantage of their no-huddle offense, where the majority of their 400 snaps is employed. The Broncos have 31 touchdowns and average more than 6 yards per no-huddle play. The no-huddle at altitude is going to be an issue for the pass-rushing Chiefs as Peyton Manning puts his team at the line of scrimmage play after play and forces the Kansas City defenders to get in their stances and prepare to rush.

Defensive players need recovery time between plays and hate getting in their stance, especially guys with their hand on the ground. The Chiefs will not counter with their own version of a no-huddle because of the noise in Denver and they simply don't use it anyway. They only have 75 snaps of it all year, almost exclusively in a desperation two-minute mode."

....drool

Wow. I had no idea. Heaven help that guy if he plays somewhere without a good defense.

cutthemdown 11-14-2013 04:05 PM

The more you look at this game the more it seems like it could be a blowout. KC just can't expect to start scoring now. They don't score a lot. 16 tds all yr and let's face it, those teams were not the Broncos. Broncos did well against Philly, Skins, Chargers on defense and I think that unit about to get good.

This game could be 38-17 Broncos, something like that.

cutthemdown 11-14-2013 04:06 PM

I love how manning makes defensive players live in their stance. They hate that ****. No huddle, but then take your time at the line, make them just rot with that hand in the dirt. He truly is a QB that changed the game. We are so lucky to have gotten Manning to finish off his career in Denver.

I didn't think the Tainer article was that great. In the GIF's provided as examples of the good chiefs defense it was a wide open Giants receiver dropping a poorly thrown pass and an open Brown's receiver dropping a pass thrown behind him. I didn't see any great defense in either of those. Also funny that the article said that it compiled the Chiefs defense against the "good" offenses they have played this year and those were the Giants and Chiefs.

I like the concept of this thread though.

Reading all these article it seems like shutting down Charles and getting a good pass rush are the keys to beating the Chiefs offense. As far as beating their defense, I'll leave that to PmfM, DT, JT, Decker, Welker and KM. ;D

SI - Audibles - All 22 - Kansas City Chiefs (Doug Farrar)
http://nfl.si.com/2013/11/14/alex-sm...e-bowe-all-22/

“I could absolutely care less on yards per game,” Smith said. “I think that is a totally overblown stat because if you’re losing games in the second half, guess what, you’re like the Carolina Panthers and you’re going no-huddle the entire second half. Yeah, Cam Newton threw for a lot of 300-yard games. That’s great. You’re not winning, though.”
