By Stephen Smith May 17, 2012 3:22 PM

(CBS News) On Wednesday, the New York Giants received their Super Bowl XLVI rings at Tiffany's in Manhattan.

Less than 24 hours later, Lawrence Taylor - one of the franchise's most iconic players and tragic figures - put his Super Bowl XXV ring up for auction. The Hall of Famer is apparently seeking between $75,000 and $100,000 for the piece of jewelry, according to CBSSports.com.

Billed as a "phenomenally important memento from one of the greatest football players of all-time," L.T.'s 1991 ring went up for sale Thursday on the SCP Auctions website. The size-12 ring features a pair of football-shaped diamonds surrounded by 17 smaller diamonds. Taylor's name is engraved on the interior band.

The website, which says the ring will be open for bids until Saturday, also notes that "the ring shows considerable wear, that in some eyes, only enhances it aura."

As of Thursday afternoon, the highest bid was over $67,000.

Taylor is hardly the first former NFL player to sell a Super Bowl ring. Last year, legendary punter Ray Guy was forced to auction off his three Super Bowl rings as part of a bankruptcy filing. Packers lineman Fuzzy Thurman and Bears defensive lineman William "The Refrigerator" Perry are also among NFL retirees forced to sell their Super Bowl rings for financial reasons.

But Taylor is certainly the most high-profile player to sell the iconic piece of jewelry. The 53-year-old Hall of Famer redefined the linebacker position on the gridiron in the 80s and early 90s with the Giants, and stayed in the spotlight after retirement, competing in "Dancing With the Stars" in 2009. But he has endured a highly publicized struggle with drug addiction and has had multiple legal run-ins since retiring from football in 1994.

Taylor pleaded guilty last year to sexual misconduct and patronizing a teenage prostitute. Two years before that, he was cuffed in Miami for leaving the scene of an accident after hitting another car. In 2000, he was arrested for tax evasion.

Earlier this year, Taylor sat down with James Brown and Cris Collinsworth on Showtime's Inside the NFL to discuss his struggles since leaving the NFL. The former linebacker said that he has a harder time navigating life than he did football.

"As a football player, I know everything about football, I mean as far as defense and stuff. I know what every player is supposed to do. I know where every player is supposed to be. I can see the play before it happens. I know where I'm supposed to be. I know how to manage a football game," Taylor said. "The problem with me is, sometimes, managing my life. Because I make a lot of bad decisions and that's the process that I'm going through now."

Denver and cornerback Omar Bolden, a fourth-round pick, have agreed to terms on a four-year...

Denver and cornerback Omar Bolden, a fourth-round pick, have agreed to terms on a four-year contract. Bolden was the 101st overall pick of the draft after completing his college career at Arizona State.

Bolden’s talent had some people talking about a much loftier position in the draft, but concerns about his knee pushed him to the final day. Bolden missed the entire 2011 season and most of the 2009 season because of knee injuries. That has led two surgeries on the knee and red flags from draft evaluators, although he’s declared himself 100 percent at this point.

Bolden was good when he was healthy, though, and he also has experience returning kicks. Assuming the knee is sound, he should battle for a role in sub packages in a secondary that can’t have enough cornerbacks.

Denver has six draft picks left to sign, including quarterback Brock Osweiler and defensive tackle Derek Wolfe.

Let's stack him up against Matt Prater, who is currently "technically not under contract."

If anything, this lets the front office how much they truly need to pay prater if they are going to keep him. Prater is every bit as good as Barth, with a much stronger leg. Should facilitate our resigning of prater, or release, if that is the direction we want to go.

To extrapolate, the biggest kicker contract in history was Janikowski's 4 year, 16 million dollar doozie.

Thanks, Bucs.

(All kidding aside, i have the utmost respect for Junior Seau and wish the best upon his friends and family)

As we all know Junior Seau took is own life due to the many years of suffering that he endured while playing the brutal game of football. He was unable to live a normal life outside of football (and it is amazing that he even survived playing it). We should blame ourselves the fans for the death of Seau and others who have suffered severe brain damage due to the concussions received while trying to live paycheck to paycheck.

Football is an evil corporation who promotes unfair competition between struggling Americans who are nothing more that gloried gladiators who must act of every whim of... Of you you ask.. well the FANS obviously.

Other Than the greedy old white guy owners and their fatcat lifestyles, the football fans are really to blame. They want harder hits, more blood, more sacrifice, more brutality in the name of mere entertainment. It's disgusting! Football should not be allowed to exist in its current form, if not banned entirely.

Am i right? or am i right?

(even more)
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/a...th-risk-051512

- satire off -

If there is one thing i have noticed as a member of this forum, it is that from even the most liberal NFL fan to the most conservative NFL fan. We respect the game, we respect its history, we are certainly advocates for promotion of safety, but we can see right through this phony media attempt which could indirectly destroy the game that we know and love.

My question is even though the NFL is America's most popular sport, and there are more fans for it than any other, if everyone one of us stood up together and said "enough is enough". Would it make a difference? Can the media gin up enough controversy and arouse a public outrage over the sport? And will that outrage be enough to render the NFL into a flag football league... or banned entirely?

My question is how much weight do you think this new (NFL=BAD) media template will carry?

California's financial apocalypse: A concise guide
Gov. Jerry Brown says his state is almost $16 billion short on its budget. The 74-year-old Democrat has a plan to close the gap — but Californians won't like it
POSTED ON MAY 15, 2012, AT 9:45 AM

Gov. Jerry Brown (D) will attempt to tackle California's crippling budget shortfall by slashing social services and limiting state workers to a four-day week. Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images SEE ALL 26 PHOTOS
California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) has some bad news: His cash-strapped state isn't $9.2 billion in the hole, as projected in January; the Golden State is actually facing a yawning $15.7 billion shortfall. And after years of aggressive budget-slashing and gridlock over increasing tax revenue, Brown doesn't have a lot of options on the table. "The fact is, California has been living beyond its means," he told reporters on Monday. "This is a day of reckoning, and we have to take the medicine." Here, a look at California's bitter pill:

Why did the budget gap grow?
Tax revenue came in $4.3 billion lower than Brown had expected, which he blamed on the still-struggling economy, and courts blocked hundreds of millions in proposed cuts to state health care programs. Also, the Democratic-controlled legislature refused to enact Brown's proposal to trim the social safety net this spring, and Republicans have refused to allow any tax increases, which require a two-thirds majority under California law. The state has already made deep cuts over the past four years to fill a combined $100 billion in deficits, including the $26 billion shortfall Brown inherited when he was sworn in last year.

What does Brown propose to do about it?
The 74-year-old Democrat — who first served as governor from 1975 to 1983 before being elected to a decades-delayed third term in 2010 — has outlined another $8.3 billion in proposed cuts from the budget, which he likened to "a pretzel palace of incredible complexity." About half the cuts would come from social services, inducing $1.2 billion from health care programs for the poor and $1.1 billion from welfare and aid for the home-bound elderly and disabled. State workers would see a 5 percent drop in pay, moving from a five-day, 40-hour week to a four-day, 38-hour week.

But that's not enough, right?
No, it's not. Even if the legislature enacts these cuts in June, California would still come up billions short. But if voters also approve a series of temporary tax bumps Brown got on the ballot for November — a four-year quarter-point rise in the sales tax, to 7.5 percent, and a seven-year increase in taxes on those earning at least $250,000 a year — Brown will be well on his way to righting the state's fiscal ship, as promised. The ballot measure, however, is no sure thing in this "birthplace of the anti-tax movement," says Adam Nagourney at The New York Times. And if it goes down to defeat, California schools automatically take a $6.1 billion hit.

If I don't live in California, why should I care?
First of all, the Golden State, by itself, is the world's ninth-largest economy. And "because of California's sheer size, this will have an impact, however modest, on the overall national picture," says David Dayen at Firedoglake. Brown's multi-billion dollar "austerity hit" will dampen the effectiveness of national economic stimulus measures, as well as "decidedly lowering the productivity of the entire state for decades to come." California's fiscal armageddon should also scare the rest of us into action, says Jennifer Rubin at The Washington Post. "If Greece's economic woes are not a flashing red light for U.S. policymakers, perhaps they will take California's example to heart."

DEFINITIONS AND DISTINCTIONS

FREE MARKET: That condition of society in which all economic transactions result from voluntary choice without coercion.

THE STATE: That institution which interferes with the Free Market through the direct exercise of coercion or the granting of privileges (backed by coercion).

TAX: That form of coercion or interference with the Free Market in which the State collects tribute (the tax), allowing it to hire armed forces to practice coercion in defense of privilege, and also to engage in such wars, adventures, experiments, "reforms," etc., as it pleases, not at its own cost, but at the cost of "its" subjects.

PRIVILEGE: From the Latin privi, private, and lege, law. An advantage granted by the State and protected by its powers of coercion. A law for private benefit.

USURY: That form of privilege or interference with the Free Market in which one State-supported group monopolizes the coinage and thereby takes tribute (interest), direct or indirect, on all or most economic transactions.

LANDLORDISM: That form of privilege or interference with the Free Market in which one State-supported group "owns" the land and thereby takes tribute (rent) from those who live, work, or produce on the land.

TARIFF: That form of privilege or interference with the Free Market in which commodities produced outside the State are not allowed to compete equally with those produced inside the State.

CAPITALISM: That organization of society, incorporating elements of tax, usury, landlordism, and tariff, which thus denies the Free Market while pretending to exemplify it.

CONSERVATISM: That school of capitalist philosophy which claims allegiance to the Free Market while actually supporting usury, landlordism, tariff, and sometimes taxation.

LIBERALISM: That school of capitalist philosophy which attempts to correct the injustices of capitalism by adding new laws to the existing laws. Each time conservatives pass a law creating privilege, liberals pass another law modifying privilege, leading conservatives to pass a more subtle law recreating privilege, etc., until "everything not forbidden is compulsory" and "everything not compulsory is forbidden."

SOCIALISM: The attempted abolition of all privilege by restoring power entirely to the coercive agent behind privilege, the State, thereby converting capitalist oligarchy into Statist monopoly. Whitewashing a wall by painting it black.

ANARCHISM: That organization of society in which the Free Market operates freely, without taxes, usury, landlordism, tariffs, or other forms of coercion or privilege.

RIGHT ANARCHISTS predict that in the Free Market people would voluntarily choose to compete more often than to cooperate.

LEFT ANARCHISTS predict that in the Free Market people would voluntarily choose to cooperate more often than to compete.

Glass-Steagall worked for decades, as bankers were not allowed to take deposits and make risky bets with them. Risk can take two forms. It can be a bet on a less certain outcome, or a fairly safe bet levered up with funds from the Fed or who knows where.
Apparently Jamie Dimon made a relatively safe bet on interest spreads, levered up, so that if anything went wrong, it could be really bad. I am no expert regarding the inner workings of trading. However, while many in NYC in media were praising Dimon, I was aware that this bank was making very risky bets in the City of London, where collateral can be put up over and over again to guarantee positions.
Shoot, I live in Reno, Nevada and I knew Dimon was betting the farm in the Square Mile. I am a little disappointed that the NY financial media failed to be on this like a dog chasing a car.
Of course, Max Keiser has been screaming that this is criminal behavior to do bets like this with deposits, for a long time. He supports regulation of the banks and fast.
But it is my contention that Glass-Steagall won't be enough. It is necessary, or at least a really tough Volcker Rule is necessary. Perhaps some criminal penalties for screwing with deposits should accompany a Volcker Rule implementation. Don't be fooled, the bankers and the hedge funds and most Republicans hate the Volcker Rule. If the Republicans win, there will be even more gambling, more easy money, more housing bubbles and more madness.
Glass-Steagall should be accompanied with rules forbidding our banks to trade in the UK Square Mile. The financial system has lost a lot of money there. The bets are unlimited as you can rehypothecate collateral over and over there. That is not permitted on Wall Street.
If Glass-Steagall is passed, US multinational banks will be able to take borrowed money, and investment money rather than just deposits and gamble in the Square Mile and there will be nothing anyone can do to stop them. Unless they are forbidden to engage in unregulated gambling there they will get money from somewhere to gamble. It could be brokerage money, or money market money, who knows?
The banks will be at risk engaging in this behavior even without the use of passbook deposits. Banks may even use fictitious collateral in order to fund their behavior in the UK. If banks are now permitted to engage in off balance sheet transactions, what is to stop these transactions from taking place in total secret in the City of London with bogus collateral?
The Square Mile is unregulated and the Parliament of the UK has no power over this financial center, the closest thing to a New World Order that we have. Even the Queen of England bows to the mayor of the Square Mile when going within the walls of this original settlement of the City of London.
And perhaps something should be done to change the rules of the Square Mile itself, and make it less risky if banks do trade there. But who will change the rules if no one is empowered to do so?
Banks will always make the argument that we need less regulation here because there is less regulation "abroad". Now you know they are talking about the Square Mile. Most massive trades blow up there as Jon Corzine found out. Even Sarkozy tried to get the Square Mile to accept a Eurozone wide Tobin Tax on trades. You know how that went.
You have libertarians saying that the banks should be allowed to gamble anyway they see fit and if the economy goes to hell in a handbasket, no problem. We will rise again. Well, there is no evidence that would happen. That is a dangerous way to fix the banks. The libertarians have been quiet the last few days as Jamie Dimon failed to live up to the "goodness" wrought by the invisible-hand-of-self-interest mantra.
This I know for sure, there is nothing different about what is going on in finance now than went on in the Great Depression, when Will Rogers came down hard on the banks. He was the only man I have seen who was able to schmooze with bankers and yet tear them to peaces daily. It is a shame that the only real New York financial journalist that consistently takes on the banks is Gretchen Morgenson, since apparently the men have decided to bow down to the rock stars of banking, like Dimon.
I hope this is changing and I think it is. Henry Blodget runs Business Insider. I believe he felt that Dimon was proof that bankers could be TBTF and still be responsible. I honestly believe that the emotion Henry has shown indicates that he feels betrayed by Jamie Dimon and by the banking establishment. That is a good thing, that he feels this way.
Jamie Dimon cannot be trusted with other people's money. Plain and simple. Remember when Jamie Dimon was jumping all over Ben Bernanke for wanting to implement the Volcker Rule? Dimon then railed against the head of the Canadian central bank for wanting to rein in risk.
It is not like we can let the central banks off the hook. They allowed this risk taking to be hidden off the balance sheets of banks at Basel 2 in 1998. Alan Greenspan was on board saying adjustable mortgages were a "better deal" in February of 2004, as the plan to screw Americans with private MBS was applied in mid 2003.
I don't believe that the central banks want housing bubbles stopped for good. I don't believe that for a minute. I wrote awhile back that the central banks want the bubble to be down the road a few years. Dimon likely wants a housing bubble as soon as is possible. The TBTF banks want all or most loans to be guaranteed by government, so that they don't have to rely on bogus AAA ratings in order to lend out more easy money. They even want to take over Fannie and Freddie business, if it is guaranteed by government of course.
The point of all this is that these banks are pushing, pushing, to make more money ASAP off of main street. These banks are driven by an irrational greed. They are dangerous to society and they will hurt us again, as they and the hedge funds want the Volcker Rule in whatever form, to be defeated.

We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong. So, here it is. I freely admit to being wrong. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.

I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled "opinion makers." Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.

It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated -- it is quite simply your body's natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body? Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

Take a moment to visualize rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding. you kept this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you could tolerate this painful brushing, you would have a bleeding, swollen infected area that became worse with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualize the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.

Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, every day, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.

While we savor the tantalizing taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed with omega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. These foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.

How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?

Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.

When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.

What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.

While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator -- inflammation in their arteries.

Let's get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6's are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell -- they must be in the correct balance with omega-3's.

If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.

Today's mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favor of omega-6. That's a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today's food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.

To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and finally, Alzheimer's disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.

There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.

There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is returning to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colorful fruits and vegetables. Cut down on or eliminate inflammation- causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them.

One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280 mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940 mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.

Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled polyunsaturated. Forget the "science" that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.

The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.

What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed food, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from consuming the typical American diet.

The orange is paler and the blue is much darker, bad combo. The blue collar is weird as hell and the blue stripes are way too big. My main dislike is the colors though. They should have kept the same color shades or even went back to the old orange and royal blue. The overall build and feel of the material is pretty sweet though.

Hope they look better in the game, but I will not be buying one.

When civilizations start to die they go insane. Let the ice sheets in the Arctic melt. Let the temperatures rise. Let the air, soil and water be poisoned. Let the forests die. Let the seas be emptied of life. Let one useless war after another be waged. Let the masses be thrust into extreme poverty and left without jobs while the elites, drunk on hedonism, accumulate vast fortunes through exploitation, speculation, fraud and theft. Reality, at the end, gets unplugged. We live in an age when news consists of Snooki’s pregnancy, Hulk Hogan’s sex tape and Kim Kardashian’s denial that she is the naked woman cooking eggs in a photo circulating on the Internet. Politicians, including presidents, appear on late night comedy shows to do gags and they campaign on issues such as creating a moon colony. “[A]t times when the page is turning,” Louis-Ferdinand Celine wrote in “Castle to Castle,” “when History brings all the nuts together, opens its Epic Dance Halls! hats and heads in the whirlwind! NEW YORK -- A judge on Wednesday struck down a portion of a law giving the government wide powers to regulate the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists, saying it left journalists, scholars and political activists facing the prospect of indefinite detention for exercising First Amendment rights.

U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest in Manhattan said in a written ruling that a single page of the law has a "chilling impact on First Amendment rights." She cited testimony by journalists that they feared their association with certain individuals overseas could result in their arrest because a provision of the law subjects to indefinite detention anyone who "substantially" or "directly" provides "support" to forces such as al-Qaida or the Taliban. She said the wording was too vague and encouraged Congress to change it.

"An individual could run the risk of substantially supporting or directly supporting an associated force without even being aware that he or she was doing so," the judge said.

She said the law also gave the government authority to move against individuals who engage in political speech with views that "may be extreme and unpopular as measured against views of an average individual.

"That, however, is precisely what the First Amendment protects," Forrest wrote.

Gee Dubya has endorsed willard for prez. willard did not refer to him by name but instead as "Obama's predecessor" Hilarious!

Romney Reduces Bush Down to Obama ‘Predecessor’

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Never once mentioning President George W. Bush by name, or acknowledging that the former president endorsed his candidacy Tuesday, Mitt Romney spent the morning in Florida railing against President Obama for doing too little to solve the debt crisis he inherited from his “predecessor.”

“I love this country, as I know you do, but I’m concerned about this country,” Romney said on his first public campaign swing through the battleground state since winning the primary here in January. “I’m concerned about the debt. I’m concerned about the spending.

“I find it incomprehensible that a president could come to office and call his predecessor’s record irresponsible and unpatriotic and then do almost nothing to fix it.”

Bush told ABC News Tuesday, as an elevator door closed, “I’m for Mitt Romney,” joining the rest of his family in backing the presumptive GOP nominee. But the Romney campaign, and now the candidate, has since remained mum on the endorsement.

Bush’s popularity has risen since leaving office, yet more people still view him unfavorably and blame him for the economic collapse, according to polling.

The Obama campaign published a statement on Bush’s endorsement of Romney before the Romney campaign did.

Romney today mentioned Obama’s “predecessor,” Bush, no fewer than five times in talking about the debt crisis.

“[Obama] was very critical of his predecessor for the debts his predecessor put in place,” Romney said. “And sure it’s true you can’t blame one party or the other for all the debts this country has, because both parties in my opinion have spent too much and borrowed too much when they were in power. But he was very critical of his predecessor because the predecessor put together $4 trillion of debt over eight years. This president however – oh, by the way, he said that doing that was unpatriotic, irresponsible and unpatriotic. And he said he would cut the debt in half if he became president.

“Instead he doubled it, alright, he doubled it,” Romney added.

The National Debt shot up nearly $5 trillion during the Bush administration, and has increased by about the same amount under the Obama administration, according to the Treasury Department. The debt, however, was greatly affected by the onset of the recession, which began during the Bush administration.
Teams will move into offseason training and the opening of many training camps will begin in late July. It is time to take a look at the top three position battles for the Denver Broncos.
