The Jacksonville Jaguars made a surprising move Tuesday, letting go of their starting quarterback, veteran David Garrard, FOXSports.com has learned.

Unlike the Broncos, most teams understand the importance of making a clear decision at quarterback. I doubt Blaine Gabbert would ever get to the point where he can outplay Gerrard, without the reps and game experience it takes.

There are a number of teams who would probably improve quite a bit by picking him up.

Miami is the first that comes to mind.

Yeah, I predict he'll be a Dolphin within a couple of days. Pretty ****ty of Jax to release him so close to the reg. season. It will make it harder for him to find a team willing to give him a chance to start.

Well, we went to the Broncos games with decent seats (20th row, 15 yard line) last year for $90/ticket. I'm hoping for some bargain basement tickets (being the cheap bastige that I am), and maybe some friends of friends who don't want to bother using their season tix....

I think it was a little bush league for Jacksonville to wait until the last minute to do this.

It kept Garrard from being able to sign on with a new team and learn the system in training camp and the preseason.

That's really surprising. You would think they would keep him around to start and mentor Gabbert. I agree with the "dick move" assessments.

Likely options:

1. Never healed from injury
2. Didn't want to guarantee his salary price tag by carrying him into the regular season
3. With Peyton's injury they wanted to hold him for a bit to make sure he couldn't go to Indy and learn their system.

Probably a combination of 2 or all 3, imo.

have you not paid attention recently? the Broncos made the decision to start their best chance this season over the 2nd year pro that is NOT ready to go yet. just because it isn't the decision most fans wanted, doesn't mean a decision wasn't made.

also, since more than likley the argument of "a number 2 and 3 QB haven't been set" will definitely pop up. who cares what order the backups are placed. the starter is set.

Yes because the only way Orton is ever winning a Sb is if our D is the 85 bears and he would need the D to score 2 Td's to win

it finally makes sense now
Kyle Orton - disliked -has a beard
Jake Plummer - disliked - had a beard

Elway - clean shaven
Cutler -clean shaven
Tebow -....

You do realize that Garrard (1st round draft pick) backed up Leftwich to start his career finally showing enough after a few years and Leftwich went down with injury.

I suppose, but Jake wasn't always bearded. He also had the pornstache phase and a cleanshave phase, but dude has a weak chin, the beard is an improvement except when he went all woolly mammoth.

From my understanding, Garrard has it in his conctract that if he's on the opening day roster that his salary is guaranteed for the year. Im guessing the Jags were saying "probably by week 6 we'll be turning over the reigns to Blaine Gabbert, do we really want a guy sitting on the bench or released that's collecting 8.5 million from us?"

So close to the season is just a dick move though, they knew the financials of this a long time ago and knew they were going to go with Gabbert sometime during the season, couldve done this a lot back in early August.

I'm thinking the Jagz were wanting to see of drafting Gabbert would light a fire under Garrard and get him to elevate his game. Apparently it didn't so now they are just gonna go with the rookie.

Looking around the league at all these bad teams biting the bullet and rolling with young inexperienced QBs, I can't help but feel a bit of envy and aggravation. They're going to start seeing what they have for the future while we have to suffer through another season Orton of sucking in clutch situations. All the while remaining in the dark as to what Tebow's potential is or isn't.

I never thought he was a great QB, but I thought he was the reason that Jacksonville was such a physical team. We could never beat them because they were too tough.
