Jeremy Beal and the Adam "better than Tebow" Weber have joined the Broncos P.S.

Maxdenver is reporting on Beal, from raveninsiders source (ravensinsider breaks a lot of Broncos news. What's up with that?)

Weber was earlier confirmed by his agent.

The other positions are not filled yet because the Broncos have claimed several people off of waivers, and the remaining positions are up for grabs.

First waiver pickup is DB Jonathan Wilhite.

From Vick, here is the PS squad (may change as we pick up more waivers):
Broncos PS additions: DE J.Beal, WR D.Goodwin, T A.Grant, RB J.Johnson, S K.McCarthy, WR E.Riley, FB A.Sylvester, QB A.Weber.

Fixed.

The reference to better than Tebow was, of course, the article that came out earlier about Weber being better then Tebow. I've been told - but can't confirm - that there is a PR agency that has made their job in life to trash Tebow, and that P.R agency has been shopping stories about Tebow to the media.

i think it's a joke.

it's because Weber went 1 of 1 for 89 yards against the Cards for a 118.8 QB rating.

For the most part, this is who I expected them to keep on the PS. I was uneasy about McCarthy because I thought McD was going to convince Spags to pick him up.

Start (or trade) Orton this year, Quinn at #2... and start Tebow with Weber as number 2 in 2012, FTW!

I would really appreciate a sticky with all the waiver/PS transactions and player statuses (claimed/on waiver/PS). If someone is willing to do it, I'm sure it would be rep gold.

There is no question to me that safety play last year was a huge huge issue. From that point of view, I'm okay with McBath being gone because of performance. I'm glad Bruton is still around, if noting else for leadership and character, but it's time for the young guns to fix last seasons mistake.

I'm still sort of upset about McBath, because he was talented and really did show some flashes. Hopefully there will be a PS space for him... still wanna try him out as a containment corner, too.

It looks to me like the Broncos have made the calculation that there is nothing they can do immediately to fix the club depth problems, and are going to try and focus on cohesiveness to win games early in the schedule rather then add talent, and risk re-training new players.

Of course, they still haven't announced any waivers at all. So unless the Panthers got ever player we tried to claim, or the Broncos didn't claim anyone, more is to come.

Not eligible for the PS. If you play 9 games or are kept on the 53 man roster for an entire year, you are not eligible. McBath played 14 games his rookie year.

in that 5 year span, the Broncos are only 20-20 at Invesco.

Carolina had similar needs and the #1 spot... perhaps it's not that they crapped away the #2 spot, but that Carolina took the players Denver would have. If the players Denver wanted weren't there, they said they graded over 900 players that would potentially be available, then why make a move?

Carolina gets anyone they want, Denver gets anyone they want that Carolina doesn't.

WOW. A bit of a surprise to me.

Not me the dude stinks. When I watch him run to the ball it seems like his angle always so bad you can see it way before he misses the tackle. He has poor football instincts IMO. People get so caught up in how fast players are, when its really about who diagnosis the play soonest and fights his way to the ball. I don't see Mcbath getting to the ball with enough regularity for a safety. Usually safetys are unblocked so really they should be around the ball quite often.

I remember playing football as a kid the coach would always tell the running back the safety is the guy you have to make a move on etc etc, we won't have any blocking left by that point. Mcbath just doesn't make plays, he is easily beaten.

People need to realize that waiver additions this late will have trouble helping much because they don't know the playbook or the system. You don't cut players you are developing just to pick up some other teams trash. The bkups and role players on the team right now have been working with the coaches, learning, and defining roles. Unless some waiver move is really a good deal I don't see Denver making big changes to the back end of the roster at this point.

You should.

You're talking about building depth with unknown players (the birds in the bush) from another organization as opposed to continuing to develop the guys who have been in our camp for the last month (those in hand).

If you like a guys potential and the way he's coming along, it doesn't make sense to get rid of him for a guy who might look better on paper. For every player you pick up, you have to get rid of one. And you're getting rid of a known for an unknown.

Depth in the regular season is far different from pre-season depth. In the regular season you hopefully don't have to rely on depth except at certain positions, and even then it's easier to hide that player because he's surrounded by better talent.

Yes we need better depth, but it's silly to think that a 4-12 team is going to get solid depth in a single off-season. Therefore it's silly to go chasing waiver wire players and dumping players who you have gotten to know and have a good feeling you can develop them in your system.

Yeah, but how often does the waiver wire improve the team's depth? And just because there are "options", it doesn't necessarily follow that said option improves the team.

This.
If EFX thinks that no one on the waiver wire was better than the fringe guys we already have, and considering their contract(big consideration), then I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because they watch the tape and do their homework, I don't.

With that being said, I have to think they are trying to renegotiate a contract on a couple of guys though. The problem with bringing in a Tommy Harris or Stichcomb (sp?) is the rule that any vets on your roster on wk 1 is now guaranteed their salary. So maybe they will wait a week to bring in a vet.

DenverBrit
09-05-2011, 12:31 PM
Exactly. It's not that difficult to understand.

Executive vice president of football operations John Elway and general manager Brian Xanders had talked of the potential for the Broncos to be active in waiver-wire claims because of their position to secure players. The Broncos, because of their 4-12 record last season, are in the No. 2 slot to claim players off waivers, behind only the Carolina Panthers.

But a player's contract comes with him in a waiver claim. So any players who were drafted by their former teams had multiyear deals the Broncos would have had to take on too.

Denver decided to bypass the long list of players after not seeing one it believed could contribute quickly and also had a contract it wanted to absorb under the salary cap.

The Broncos are expected to attempt to sign another veteran player or two this week. Other than Willis McGahee and Ty Warren, the Broncos have signed the bulk of their veteran free agents to one-year deals for at or near the NFL minimums.
