Players who would be an upgrade over what we currently have.

OT/OG Pat McQuistan: Started 8 games for Miami last year and is only 28. Provides good versatility and I think he is better than what we currently have.

At this point, we need the best possible veteran depth from the waiver wire at CB, MLB, and DT.

With Squid being hurt, Cox being an inconsistent rapist, and Goodman being injury prone, hopefully, we can dig through the trash heaps and find someone.

Unless Irving's injury is serious we have much bigger concerns than MLB depth.

Yeah, that's very true.

I would put the position priority at:
1. DT
2. CB
3. HB
4. FB
5. MLB

Yeah CB just shot up it but I'd go:

1)OL
2)interior OL
3)CB
4)DT
5)RB

1)OL
2)interior OL
3)CB
4)DT
5)RB

All are areas that are a concern. I think they're OK at RB, but the talent drop off from 1A/1B is huge.

1.) CB Squid is done unfortunately, Cox may be cut, Goodman is getting older and injury prone, Champ tackles like a beast, but is also getting older and will inevitably get dinged helping in run support.
2.) DL
3.) MLB/ Overall LB depth (Irving isn't ready, Mays is a liability in space, D.J. has the type of injury that will ding him for 6 games, and Mohamed sucks.
4.) OL (particularly interior line) There has got to be someone better on the wavier wire trash heap than Stanley Daniels.

i think some of you are missing it a bit...

OL depth is our biggest need...even at DT at least we have some players returning from injury shortly...

after OL and DT, a 3rd RB is needed...anyone happy with Lance Ball, i don't know what to tell you...

then MLB and corner...

He didnt look all that bad to me to be honest. Seems like most times had a man 1 on 1, he got the better of the exchange and at a minimum always held his ground. Admittedly though, I get excited these days when I see any level of good FB play and didnt watch him on each play.

Former Falcons DE Chauncey Davis would probably be an upgrade over most of our depth ends. Maui'a might be worth a look. What we really need is an OT and a corner or two-- pretty slim pickins at both spots still, unfortunately.

rotoworld.com ...

Panthers waived RB Tyrell Sutton.

Sutton was a victim of the Panthers' deep stable of running backs. Despite appearing in just nine games last season, he was able to notch 12 catches for 70 yards while carrying the ball 13 times for 71 yards. With many teams looking thin at running back heading into Week 1, he shouldn't have a terribly difficult time finding a new job. Sep 3 - 9:21 AM

Yep. he is a hard runner, but his vision is questionable at best. That's one of the things that made guys like Sanders, Payton and even TD so great - they has great vision.

Cowboys waived FB Chris Gronkowski.

Gronkowski appeared in 14 games for the Cowboys last season, carrying the ball five times for 17 yards while adding seven receptions for 35 yards. The Arizona product has a versatile skill set, and should be able to stick around in the league.

Igor Olshansky (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/2785/igor-olshansky) - DL - Cowboys (http://www.rotoworld.com/teams/clubhouse/nfl/dal/cowboys)

Cowboys released DT Igor Olshansky.

Olshansky had fallen down the depth chart, and set to make $3.34 million this season, was simply too expensive to keep. Olshansky has started at least 12 games each of the past seven seasons, and be able to latch on somewhere else as depth.

Sep 3 - 11:02 AM

Marcus Harrison (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4810/marcus-harrison) - DL - Bears (http://www.rotoworld.com/teams/clubhouse/nfl/chi/bears)

Bears waived DT Marcus Harrison.

Harrison blew his chance at making the roster after showing up to training camp out of shape. Now 27, he's appeared in 37 games the past three seasons, starting just nine of them. He has 55 career tackles and three sacks to his name.

Some interesting names starting to show up!

Agamemnon

Hogwash.

The only thing Gooden ever lived up to from his college press clippings was a penchant for being injured in the NFL. Went from starting, to back-up to off the team. Better option than Joe Mays? No.

That was so strange, how Koutavides was so bad on defense. He sold his free agency claming Lofa Tatupu was so good he'd never get on the field if he stayed in Seattle, and everybody bought it. Now they're both unemployed :~ohyah!:

I actually don't blame him at all. His job, to himself and his family, is to milk the system for all the $$$ he can, while he can. You and I would do the same if given the chance. This is good marketing.

However, I do blame Shanahan for not only buying this garbage, but essentially repeating this myth to us fans to justify all the $$$ he threw at some guy that previously nobody ever heard of before.

This one caught my eye. Polite is ranked as the 5th best FB in the NFL by Scouts, Inc and has a 90 overall rating on Madden 12. With the news that DT won't be going on PUP list, meaning they expect him back fairly soon, we definitely don't need a WR. We don't run the 4 and 5 WR spread formations that McD did anymore, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better group of receivers in the league 1-5 than we will have with Lloyd, Thomas, Royal, Decker, and Willis. Maybe the Packers, but that is the only one in my opinion.

Effing Panthers ... from PFT:

Out: defensive Everette Brown (as we mentioned), safety Kevin Payne, guard Bryant Browning, wideout David Clowney, and defensive end Thomas Keiser.

The Panthers claimed five off waivers: wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu (San Diego), defensive tackle Marcus Harrison (Bears), safety Stevie Brown (Oakland), defensive back Josh Thomas (Dallas), and defensive end George Selvie (Rams).

Bastids.

wouldnt mind seeing us take a flyer on everette brown...

Wilhite had already cleared waivers, so he was a FA. Maybe we didn't claim anybody, but instead are trying to sign some veterans not subject to waivers.

Broncos pass on making waiver claim
By Mike Klis
Although the Broncos were No. 2 in the waiver claim order, itís no surprise they passed on snagging a player off waivers this weekend. Had the Broncos placed a claim on a waived player, they would have not only received the player but the playerís existing contract.

The Broncos did sign former New England Patriotsí cornerback Jonathan Wilhite but he was waived last week and had already cleared, allowing the Broncos to sign him as a free agent. Mst likely, the Broncos signed Wilhire at around the $600,000 salary minimum.

Had a player been claimed off waivers, itís doubtful he would have been ready to play in a new system by the Broncosí season opener Sept. 12 against the Oakland Raiders. The Broncos probably will sign another player or two _ on the teamís contract terms _ in the next few days.

I don't think you quite understand the process but let's try to play this game anyhow... What players did you think we should have put a claim on? I can think of one that I would have put a claim on, Sutton... But I assume Fox knows enough about him that I trust his decision to pass on him. Other than that, not many guys worth trying to claim.

I'm surprised we didn't claim Tyrell Sutton from Carolina or another young RB. He had a small salary.

As far as offensive and defensive linemen, I'd expect we'd sign veterans who can come right in and contribute as backups (like Hank Fraley, Montrae Holland, Pat McQuistan, Renardo Foster, Derek Landri, Anthony Hargrove), and who don't have to go through waivers. Probably not as many younger guys that had to go through waivers can be considered ready to play right away ... instead maybe developmental guys who would be inactive anyway.

Much like Wilhite - already cleared waivers - 3 year veteran w/ starting experience in NE.

I hear ya. I was right at the front of the queue with the pitchfork during UFA when we did nothing until signing Warren, but these are players who didn't make a 53 man roster elsewhere. Very slim pickings IMO so obviously there weren't too many guys they fancied.

And if they were busts, couldn't make the 53 squads and carry another 3 years of contracts with roster bonuses? Most of the FA signings were one year contracts for a reason.
Elway has said, on more than one occasion, that the way to build depth is through the draft.
They've tried the overpriced FA busts and lousy draft route, this time around, they have a cunning plan.

Absolutely an epic "Fail" on the Broncos part. This team is pathetic. Bowlen is beyond done. Stick a fork in him.

This team is $25m under the Cap. They didn't even try to upgrade their depth. Then, when the last thing left to do...is sign waived players...they pass on that too. Why? Because there wasn't talent available better than what is on this team? No. Because they were concerned with paying salaries slightly above minimum. Wow, how this franchise has fallen.

Sure, we don't have to spend a bunch of money on guys who won't be here in 2yrs, but we could have at least improved our depth a little, so that we could compete this year. Absolutely pathetic.

Anyone want to bet that Xanders ends up being the scapegoat for Bowlen's empty wallet? Xanders will get the axe next year.
