View Full Version : Tebow doesn't get his $6.28m until 9/2

I see a lot of people talking about how Tebow's already received his $6+ mill and that's why we won't trade him, cut him, etc.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5096/tim-tebow

"7/29/2010: Signed a five-year, $9.75 million contract. The deal includes $8.7 million guaranteed. Another $23.25 million is available through incentives, though $9 million of them are "unlikely to be earned." $1,537,500 of the incentives are available through a "likely to be earned" onetime escalator. 2011: $1,618,750 (+ $6.275 million guaranteed option bonus due 9/2), 2012: $1,942,500, 2013: $2,266,250, 2014: $2.59 million, 2015: Free Agent"

2011: $1,618,750 (+ $6.275 million guaranteed option bonus due 9/2)

It's not due until September 2nd.

Meaning IF he is a Bronco past that date, then he is in our long-term plans (or at least as a backup) since he would be exceptionally cheap for a possible starting QB to finish out the remaining 3 years on his contract.

I think Elway said they already wrote the check though, so whether it's due or not, SHOULD be paid already.

It was due 9/2, but they wrote the check last week. The fact that they actually paid him early speaks volumes, IMHO.

Wrong. He was already cut the check. That is the date they have to pay him by. They can pay him anytime they want prior

First Franklin is older then Clady now this....

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/22/trade-or-release-talk-surfaces-for-tebow/

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen isn’t buying it. He reported earlier tonight on Monday Night Countdown that the Broncos recently gave Tebow a check for $6.7 million, part of the guaranteed money in his first-round rookie deal. Said Mort of Tebow, “They’re not about to trade him, they’re not about to release him.”

They paid him early

Thanks for clarifying.
This is what I had thought and coupled with the "anonymous" report that he's played to the 4th string level (I don't think ANY of us actually believe he's that bad) is what made me (along with many others yesterday on The Fan) think he may be traded or even given his outright release.

The Schefter article (or what little I saw anyway) made it seem that it had already been paid.
Sounds like 9/2 is the date we'll know if he MAY fit in the future plans.
Personally I'd be surprised to see us give up on him that quickly (despite the big price tag and the fact that he's not in the plans as a starter this year) but at the same time he's SUCH a polarizing figure that getting rid of him may be the best way to unify the fans and eliminate the excessive speculation.
It would be nice to finally support a starting QB for the first time since Elway was under center!!

Okay maybe it's NOT clarified!!

If we have in fact paid the money early then it does speak volumes.
If nothing else it's a clear message that the kid will get another chance to compete next season.

Tebow has the check, but Elway predated it for 9/2. Tebow has until then to learn to throw a screen pass or Xanders is stopping payment. He's got a reminder in his Google calendar.

I don't think getting rid of him would unify the fan base. It would cause a long running shiit storm. IMO. It would make the Hillis thing seem like a bob thread, gone before 4 pages.

huh??

More like they cut the check early and planned on giving it to Tebow, but Bowlen panicked because he didn't have enough money in his account to cover it.

It is clear that the lockout hurt Timbo's development. EFX probably discussed that he would struggle because of it but they still want to see if they can develop him, it is a lot of money but he is a polarizing player who could be special if he can adapt to the pro game.

They inherited alot of mCd's problems but it is way too early to give up on a 2nd year 1st round QB.

It was postdated for Bowlen's next payday.

Also, there is a pretty good chance that the fact it was guaranteed money means that even if he was cut, he would get it. Now, sometimes they guarantee only injury, or only performance, and sometimes both. So, it's hard to know for sure, but my guess is that the Broncos were on the hook for this money unless he was traded and some other club assumed that liability.

God damn it. This **** has been settled. He's paid and not going anywhere. He's not ready yet. It's going to take two to three seasons to train this guy up.

AND

THEY HAVE INSTALLED PACKAGES FOR HIM IN THE OFFENSE. HE's A PART OF THE "PLAN".

I think those were workout bonuses that players would have earned if there had been OTA's

almost 16 mil. if we had a franchise QB,that would be his yearly salary. as it stands now 2 QBs combined.
