So I have had a bit of time to sit back and digest what I've seen during training camp and the first couple of preseason games.

I'm not thrilled with our Run D at this point, but I am hopeful that we'll get it figured out. I've been hopeful for a few years though and that hope alone hasn't done shiat to stop the Raiders from throwing up a couple hundred rushing yards each game.

So my reasons for optimism,

1) Von Miller and Elvis will not let teams sit back in the pocket for long. Something will have gone terriblly wrong if Rivers is throwing the ball deep to Jackson when he comes to Mile High. DA is going to be bringing the heat left and right. I am fine getting beat during a blitz every now and then, it's the screens that scare me.

2) Our offense is going to be explosive. Add a running game to an already great throwing game and you have a recipe to put up 23-27 per game. Running game putting us in 3rd and makeable situations... extending drives on 3rd and short and scoring near the goaline. The running game will also allow Kyle Orton to do what he does best, work the Playaction. If teams have to respect our running game, watch for the Play Action to freeze the LBs which will open up things in the middle for Decker and Royal.

3) We have a pretty good blend of youth and aged vets. The young guns are being brought along at the perfect pace. I think Knowshon Moreno challenges for team MVP this year... surprising, yes. But his attitude has changed and he is finally serious. 1400 total yards... TDs will be down a bit (8) as McGahee will steal some away as could Tebow.

I've said before if we can get our rushing game to mimic the 05 team with Bell and MA, on top of two pass rushers that can produce like they should we should be in the playoff hunt.

I like the optimism but we'll have to play lights out against some of the teams on our schedule. Jets, Pats, Packers, SD. I'll be surprised if we make the playoffs...

John fox was brought in here for 1 specific reason.... to improve the running game and the defense which were the 2 glaring weaknesses we had.....

If dumervil returns to form.... and von miller helps out our run defense and in the pass rush.. and our corners aren't having to cover opposing WR's for 8-9 seconds all the time we could contend for a playoff spot

we proven we can beat the jets..... it took a bs pass interference call for them to beat us..

We've also proven we can beat the patriots...

Green bay despite being the defending world champions were not the most dominant team last year.....

San diego on the other hand is the class of the afc west so far... we do have to beat them if we plan to make the playoffs.

Once again I truly believe that if we improve our running game and pass protection and our defense shows up we can contend

I have pretty much the same concerns except I'm not concerned about Royal, I am concerned about Walton/Beadles, and the biggest concern is that we don't have an impact DT on the roster.

The run D is scary still. I'm a broke record when I say I wish we would get Morrison to fix that problem. I still am thinking we are going to get double digit TDs out of McGahee which will make it easy for who ever is the starting QB for us. I just think we will be in the hunt till the last three weeks and we will see how the injury bug bounces.

I am a little concerned with the Interior OLine. Mainly with Waldo. How is it that Baltimore can just pull one of their Defensive Linemen over to the Center position and he looks like a 10 year vet?

We'll have to add some depth at Center when cuts start coming in... maybe even somebody to challenge for the starting spot. I've heard Alfred Williams say some pretty good thinks about Ramirez as well. Not sure he is the challenger we are looking for though.

Scheme wise I think we'll do a lot better vs the run. Consistently, not so sure yet. I think we'll see a bunch of good play followed by giving up a 20 yard run. Get into 3rd down situations and get off the field, that is key! You can give up some rushing yards as long as you anchor down and force some 3rd and 5+ situations as well.

I think the team has a better roster and a better coaching staff this year. That always seems to help with the final record. :clown:

I like how the offense is put together for passing. McCoy and his assistants seem pretty competent, a lot of diversity but executing well. They added some nice pieces to the O with Fells and McGahee, possibly Julius can add a nice play here and there in the passing game. The WR's look great, good starters and good depth.

The O running game might not be explosive, but should be competent. Good enough to make the play-action work. And McCoy seems to be pretty good at play-action. Not a lot of depth at RB beyond Moreno and McGahee.

The passing D will get a lot more QB pressure from the outside than we've seen for a long time with Elvis and Von. The inside pass rush will have to be aided by blitzes, so that puts pressure on the secondary and the LB's to stop big plays.

I still worry about the open-field tackling from the LB's and the secondary, they don't seem to clean up real well (other than Champ and McCarthy). Same goes for the D running game, the LB's and secondary still don't seem to clean up too well after the opposing RB gets past the LOS.

I think we'll still see some big plays against the Denver D here and there, but hopefully not at the record pace we've seen the past 4 years, and hopefully some more turnovers, like twice as many turnovers.

ST's should be pretty good, should be a strong point in kicking and coverage, but I'm wondering who the punt returner will be.

Overall, I can see 8-8. 3-0 to start, 3-2 at the bye, 6-5 after November, 2-3 or 3-2 in December and that results in 8-8 or 9-7.

Could be better, but I see 8-8 at the worst.

8-8 max, barring more than few flukey ref calls or favorable bounces of the ball. We're in full re-building mode and that run defense is going to suck.

I do think the coaching is worlds better, but anything more than break even is dreamin'.

I agree. 8-8 seems to be our max. I don't think we are going to be able to stop the run, and I don't think we have the OL yet to run as effectively as Fox wants us to. Those are two big weaknesses.

1. Pass

2. I admire your optimism but Moreno has yet to prove heís even close to putting up those kinds of yards. Iím not sure the OL will be as good against better Dís. They're still very young and inexperienced. As for Ortonís red zone predictions, Iím not sure that Iíd agree with that assessment either. He was terrible inside the 20 completing passes last year.

3. MVP for Moreno? Fail. If he gets a 1,000 yards and 6 or 7 TD's that'd be an improvement and a reachable goal for him.

I think you guys are really underestimating the value of improved safety play. The Broncos really big issue hasn't been stopping the run, but in stopping the *big* run. So many runs that should have been 10-yard gains have been touchdowns in recent seasons... simply because the middle of the secondary was comically bad.

Having Moore (and hopefully a re-engergized Dawkins) back there should help to limit a lot of that damage. If we can make those offenses run more plays, it gives Miller/Doom the chance to cause turnovers and all sorts of chaos.

I don't think we're going to have a good run defense, but I think the damage will be far less than it has bene in previous years.

5-11 is ceiling. 3-13 the basement. 8-8 would be a very successful season for the Broncos, I wish I believed it could happen. If the Broncos can play some better D which they should this year they could go 8-8. I think to many have heaped large expectations on the young OL. I'm not convinced they'll be able to run or pass against better defensive teams.

I think the running game should be your #1. We need to be able to run better than other teams. If we can run better in games against teams like Oakland and Kansas City, it makes the pass rush mean more because increases the likelihood that theyll be in passing situations more than us. This allows the defense to better predict what's coming and do more to generate pressure.

Not that I don't understand you point of view... but 1400 total yards for Knowshon is not a huge increase in production. You put, if he gets 1000 yards and 6 or 7 TDs, that'd be an improvement. You do realize he has put up 1100 yards in his first two seasons right? He also scored 9 TDs as a rookie and 8 last year. Do you know what you talking about here?

For Knowshon, I see 1050 Yards Rushing and 350 Yards Receiving with 8-10 TDs... anything more than that and he is likely the team's MVP... TEAM not league btw.

I'm expecting vast improvement on the defense, but regression on the offense.

I think that Fox's dedication to the running game actually plays directly into Orton's weakness on 3rd down. I think Moreno will have by far his best year, but I don't think the offense will be any more productive scoring points with Orton at the helm.

I would expect the same 20 pts/game from the offense, and with the improved defense I can see 6-7 wins.

I think it has been so long, most of those posting dont know what a good team looks like anymore. This isnt a good team. Too many holes to fill in 1 season and they arent far enough into the process. Add to that the brutal schedule they have this year and I dont see any way they can eke out more than 6 wins. Also, I like the optimisim but taking Morenos 2 year total and thinking he is going to do that plus 1/3 more this season is about as realistic as expecting Ayers to be the sack leader, aint gonna happen.

Orton's not a leader. If the team makes the playoffs, it's because Orton is along for the ride.
