Lombardi is an idiot, and if Moore told him that he's an idiot as well. Keep your mouth shut. He can only be fined 25% of a weeks pay, that is the new rule in the CBA. A rookie, first offense, can only total 25% of a weeks pay. So it will be much less probably since hes only a 2nd round pick.

Mason Foster got 20k fine only is paying 5500.00 per new rule.

Still Goodell is ruining the ****ing league. In the end it wont be any safer. You want in 5 yrs, the numbers will show the same amount of head and neck injuries.

Fact is, whether he was ducking in with his head, turning his face to the side out of instinct, or trying to pull his head back, the fact is he put his helmet under Jone's chin, which makes the flag and fine correct, under current NFL rules.

whatever it is... intentional or not.. it will be about 10-15 years until our commissioner realizes that no awareness campaign can change the way players react in a split second.

it's like starting an awareness campaign against wanting to rail a hot chick as a man in a relationship (or whatever floats your boat).

you can show restraint, but you're going to have thoughts no matter what. it's the way the game of MAN is played. it's our natural instinct.

the difference is that in the NFL, you don't have time to react. you just have to not do it on purpose, it can't be so blantant. much like not chatting up a girl while you're with your girlfriend.

Seems unlikely this will be the highlight of the year, given that Moore is already starting.

Also, it seems a bit odd (to me, at least) to compare a safety who was a liability in coverage (Mays) to a player who's strength is coverage, yet can still hit hard enough for Goodell to get his panties in a bind over a clean hit.

By the way, what's your opinion on Weddle becoming the highest paid safety in the league, surpassing the cost of players like Polamalu and Reed?

The satisfaction that comes with watching your team actually win the superbowl. It's been over a decade, and I'm still happy knowing that I actually watched it happen (twice). It's so good when it happens that you realize you were just kidding yourself by saying it didn't really matter. It really matters. It's a life changing event. Something that remains permanently etched in your mind down to the most minute detail.

That said, how does it feel to know deep down inside that Rivers just isn't going to get it done? Sure he owns us, and sure you'll likely skate to another AFCW championship this year... and we've been terrible for the longest time... but your postseason collapse is as sure as the setting sun. The Chargers' window has closed and the best thing you have to show for it is a stringer full of tragic postseason hilarity. I almost feel sorry for you. Hopefully as a consolation you can watch LT win a ring with the Jets... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I haven't heard an explanation but watching the video, I think the reason Moore was fined was because he launched himself at the receiver at the very last second. I can see an argument both ways but it sure looks like he launches right at the very end.

ZONA
08-25-2011, 04:44 AM
Clean MF hit. Period.

He moves his head away from the defender at the last second, which helps thrust his shoulder forward. Go ahead and try it. Sit there in your chair and just thrust one shoulder. You will see that your head goes the other direction. The shoulder landed right in the dudes chest. He did not launch himself. He wasn't flying through the air, which isn't a penalty in it's own right anyway. He thrusts his shoulder. Textbook. Pure and simple.

**** Goodell. I agree you can't spear a guy with the crown on your helmet, ala Chuck Cecil, but this crap has gone too far.

I think teams and players should be able to help pay for fines. If the league is anal enough to hand out fines for just about any type of helmet contact, what can you do. **** em!

Nah, it's included in the NFL wages. Nobody needs to give them anymore.

**** em!

Per the rules, it wasn't a clean hit. Intentional or not, he hit the "defenseless receiver" under the chin with the top of his helmet. That's a penalty, that's a fine -- fortunately it wasn't a suspension, because it probably was deemed flagrant/intentional.

You can dislike the rule, as I do, but you cannot look at the rule, look at the video, and say it was a clean MF hit. Sorry, that's just wearing blinders.

By the way, it isn't **** Goodell. A great deal, if not most, of this is coming from the players. No two a days. Not even being allowed to average one padded practice a week during the season. All of these are pushed by the NFLPA union and negotiated into the CBA.

John Lynch said Moore needed to go lower. The REFs are mandated this year to throw a flag when the helment comes any where above the shoulder pads

Like it or not we will see alot more penalties/fines this year

Yep. Under the new rules, you can't make a forcible hit in the area of the defenseless receiver's head or neck. Doesn't matter if the hit comes from the head, shoulder or arms.

Hence the reason that Rich McKay, President of Falcons and on the competition committee, stated that this rule will change what we are used to in terms of defenders trying to separate receivers from the ball, and that now defenders will need to hit at the numbers, or lower, to avoid penalties.

At least we have Super Bowl wins to look back on, in somewhat recent memory. One more season of the Bolts underperforming and their "dominance" will disappear.

Yes, we should never forget and it was really awesome but it was twelve years ago. Plus, the guy was saying Rahim Moore sucks, not our franchise, Rahim Moore. What does that have anything to do with us winning Super Bowls? It's just a weak argument someone pulls out when they have no counter point to the actual debate.

I'm not saying we shouldn't talk about it or be proud of it but it was 12 years ago, I just don't see how we can use it as an argument when someone bashes a player.

It's like my friends who are in their late 20's and 30's who bring up WWII as some kind of smack talk to our "insourced" co-workers.

It's lame, and it's how losers talk.

Still great. Never gets old. Too bad you were too young to really appreciate it. Living through a decade of superbowl beatdowns, end stage Reeves depression, Phillips futility, and the Jacksonville debacle made me think it wasn't going to ever happen. And the point being that San Diego fans will never, ever get there. So hang out on opposing boards and talk smack about a rookie safety, because there is literally nothing for them to be excited about. Their post season fate is assured.

I remember when the Chorfs went 9-0 one year, and they were all over the Denver boards about how wonderful that team was. When they lost in the first playoff game (Colts, I think), the $hit stopped. The Chugger fans were the same. Rivers was the "best QB evah", and the chugger fans were thick as flies on the Denver boards. They lose the championship game and reality smacked them around the head and shoulders brutally, and much of the $hit and bravado died down. Today, they can only criticize their opponents because they are not going to win anything, and they know it..... Faider fans are just retarded crap talkers and can be found anywhere at anytime. They don't count for much anyway, and if they keep shooting each other they may become an endagered species of pond scum. We hope.

Point is, when Division rival fans come to Denver Boards and talk crap, it is natural to remind them that the Broncos have had a great two-decade run themselves and the fans are not strangers to winning football teams. Trolls need to be treated as trolls and the fools they are.

They should wave their little pom poms on their own boards, and worry about their own sets of losers.......

"The new Collective Bargaining Agreement protects players from fines of more than 25 percent of their weekly base salary, which means his fine will likely be reduced to 25 percent of his weekly pay of $22,058.82, or $5,514.71."

But is weekly salary based on 52 weeks or 16 weeks. I think it's 16 weeks which puts his fine at about $15K.

I was going to post something similar about this not being Goodell.

Agree with the rest of the post too. Players need to stop aiming so high. And there's no excuse to launch yourself at a player these days. That stuff isn't tolerated on any level of football.

Yeah, that's a pretty good post. You can't really argue with the fine, even though I disagree with the practice of arbitrarily assigning amounts to the plays.

I think it was a clean hit in the sense that it wasn't dirty or malicious, if that makes sense, but that's probably just semantics.

Yes, it makes sense. As I replied to someone elsewhere taking the same stance as you, you have to seperate whether you agree with the rule from whether the fine was warranted based on the rule.

Based on the rule, it was warranted. However, many people feel the rule is wrong.
