This article has some good quotes/points on thw waiver wire plans and how this front office is handling them. It will be interesting to see if we can find any talent and how it all plays out in the shortened offseason.

Dump can be Broncos' treasure

It's looking more and more like Sept. 3 will be one of the biggest player personnel dumps in NFL history, with nearly 1,200 players coming on the market at once. The Broncos, with second priority on the waiver wire and certain . . . ahem . . . talent gaps, want to be ready to take advantage.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed Wednesday that the league is considering allowing teams to keep 90 players on their rosters right up to Sept. 3, the final cutdown date, when they must get down to the regular-season roster limit of 53.

Coming out of the lockout, the league had tentatively pushed back the first cutdown day, when teams would reduce rosters from 90 to 75 players, to Aug. 30. But officials now think any early cuts may be counterproductive.

...

That's right, John Elway has a scouting assignment. You can probably guess which position he got. There are 40 quarterbacks among the 950, and it's Elway's job to evaluate each one.

...

"Other clubs will take their college scouts and their pro scouts and fly them to preseason games and see if they like anybody," Broncos general manager Brian Xanders said. "That's the old-school way. The problem with that is you're seeing 22 guys run around in real time and it's impossible to evaluate them all.

"What we've found is that was a waste of money, hundreds of thousands of dollars of travel, for college and pro scouts to fly everywhere to watch a preseason game and then they get in the fourth quarter and all these backups come in and they're supposed to grade all 20 guys."

True, some dump would be an upgrade over our backup OTs, and also StanDan.

ummmmm.....if the other teams are still going to pre-season games and we went 4-12 shouldn't we maybe NOT try to re-invent the wheel?

"Dump" is the appropriate word for our performance, over the last few years....

Retread an castoff bandaids are a bronco line specialty instead of investing draft picks and developing them.

I'm sure there'll be a few good players cut.

Problem will be that the good ones will probably be getting cut because their contracts are bigger than they're worth, I doubt we'll be willing to claim any such contracts.

Hopefully we can find a DT, CB and an offensive lineman or two that can help us though.

So if we are in good cap position at final cuts, then they may fit on our team better.

Broncos are in good shape with plenty of cap of room.

We still have to sign Royal, Clady and potentially Lloyd next year.

Good news though is that Chris Kuper's contract is for $7 mill this year and then drops to $3.5 next year, so that free's up quite a bit.
