"The way the media perpetrates bias is usually in what they don't report."

"Washington Correspondents (who in a poll revealed to vote democrat 93% to 7% republican) are more liberal than the congressional districts of Berkeley, CA and Cambridge, MA. Cambridge is relatively conservative compared to the media."
"One subtle consequence is that media bias actually affects how people judge media bias itself. For instance, if the media report with a liberal bias, then this causes us to think more liberally. In turn, thinking more liberally causes us to prefer more liberal news, which makes us less able to detect the bias. Despite all the discussion about media bias, though, almost no one seems to have recognized the diminishing of bias awareness.
It’s time the public wakes up. Media bias is more significant, complex and pernicious than people realize."
Also a study from Yale:
"The conclusions draw upon recent studies by some highly respected economists and political scientists. For instance, one study, conducted by Yale researchers Alan Gerber, Dean Karlan and Daniel Bergan, is akin to a biology experiment. To one set of randomly selected voters in Northern Virginia, the researchers gave trial subscriptions to The Washington Post. To another set, they gave trial subscriptions to The Washington Times. After the subsequent election, the researchers polled their subjects and found that their Post-subscribing subjects voted for the Democrat at a 3.8 percentage higher rate than did the Times-subscribing subjects. That is, the more liberal newspaper truly seemed to cause people to vote more liberally.
After aggregating the results of this and similar studies, one finds an inescapable conclusion: Newspapers, television, radio and online media are extremely influential, especially over consumers’ political views."

I'm a fan of studying media, etc - and I always find it funny when one "group" wants to show how "media" influences thinking, etc - Then you have guys like this:
http://www.skilluminati.com/research/entry/newt_gingrich_on_using_language_for_social_control/
...third time I've said that. (Laughter.) I'll probably say it three more times. See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda. (Applause.)

I have a bunch of real examples in the "delphi (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=52978)" thread if anyone is really interested in learning more about media ecology.
Tools like EpicLlama just prove how much of an agenda they have - they are exactly what they claim to not be.

CBS White House Reporter O'Donnell to Obama Talking Head Carney about debt ceiling: "You gave them everything and we got nothing."
Carney: "I have already answered that question two or three times."

You have 3 or 4 white house reporters referring to the democrat agenda as their own personal interest.
Wake up, folks.

It's no secret that the libral media creatively edits its news so to present one side of the story. This happens all the friggen time. The thing is that librals simply won't admit it. They simply ignore it, or repress it. In other words, librals can't think for themsleves and they get all defensive when someone points out their tainted and bias outlook.
Then these same librals point the finger at fox and say--"UH-UHHH! THEY ARE THE ONE'S WHO ARE BIASED!"
I've said for a long time the fox and the ultra conservative radio shows are nothing more than a manifestation of the ultra libral's lack of objective reporting. The ultra libral media created their own frankenstein and now they wonder why or how it happened. AND THEY STILL REFUSE TO CHANGE.

Absolutely.
If the major outlets would present an unbiased platform, FOX and other outlets would probably lose some of their viewers.
They have been co-opted by big money interests like Soros though, and aren't interested in viewership as much as they are interested in "controlling the message" aka controlling thought about political issues. You don't present people with the whole story because they might choose against your agenda...so you confine the issue to only the interests of one side and label those who would want something different as "extremists".
I mean really...when did someone who wants to only spend money on what you can afford become an "extremist"? Do people even think about this stuff? Its completely ridiculous.

Did you not see that the ridiculously overwhelming number of Washington correspondents are partisan liberals (93%)?
FOX says "fair and balanced" because they provide alternate viewpoints to conservative-slanted editing on every single show and just about every segment I have ever seen.
Cant say the same for NYT, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc. They're straight liberal and they're lying to their viewers about it. Fox is not.

Yes, fox slants to a more conservative audience but they also have liberal commentators too. That black guy who got fired from PBS--Juan Williams?--I believe is his name, he comes from a liberal background.

I just read the opinion piece and then decide to actually read the research (http://www.international.ucla.edu/cms/files/bergan_gerber_karlan.pdf)
Bottom line from the authors:
" Any broad inferences from this study about the effects of media bias on political decisions should recognize that the results may depend on several specific features of our experiment, such as the political context, choice of subjects, intensity of treatment, length of the study, timing of the study, and choice of media outlets and type"
Bottom line their research don't allow them to shown that media/newpapers actually solely influenced how people voted.

Liberals get upset that Fox claims to be fair and balanced, yet the liberals in the media portray themselves as such too. You don't ever hear them admit they are liberals and in fact, many won't even do so on internet forums. They have slanted stories for 40 years now and underreported stories that don't fit their agenda, but they see it as for the greater good, so what is truth anyway? They also do not like conservatives on talk radio, despite I am sure none of them pretending to be otherwise, since topics and stories are discussed they used to ignore since they did not help their cause and spreading of their agendas. You know, it is really rich liberals complain about conservative bias in the media when they have had the majority of the media and been doing it since the early 70's.

Yeah, notice how none of these liberals are denying it.
