The framework (we haven't seen all the details) calls for an initial step of some $900 billion in domestic discretionary cuts over 10 years from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) baseline puffed up by recent spending. If the cuts hold, this would go some way to erasing the fiscal damage from the Obama-Nancy Pelosi stimulus. This is no small achievement considering that Republicans control neither the Senate nor the White House, and it underscores how much the GOP victory in November has reshaped the U.S. fiscal debate.
Not bad for a bunch a "Ya-hoos".
Where are the cuts to the military?

On the plus side, without the Tea Party, Washington wouldn't even be TALKING about responsible spending, responsible tax reform, or debt ceilings. This has all been a foregone conclusion in perpetuity until these 'nuts' showed up with some principles and a hammer. Guys like Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Jim DeMint really had impressive showings in this whole thing. The Tea Party had a real and substantive effect on the way government does business giong forward and I think it'll translate into better election numbers for them as I think they learned that they can't run folks like O'Donnell and Angle who lack coherence, knowlege, and common sense.
The fact that they 'held hostage' the GOP and Congress in general is a testament to their passion and smarts, not a proof that they're dumb neanderthals. Much of America identifies with them on many issues, no matter how much Bill Maher cracks on 'em. When a boob like Obama or Reid calls you a 'financial terrorist', you take it as a compliment.
On the negative side, the Tea Party didn't take this where it needed to go--Cut Cap and Balance. I realize that their political power only goes so far--and that it will likely get stronger in time--but that's the only disappointment apart from giving this President a reprieve so he can work to get himself elected.

basically. that needs to be cut NOW along with another trillion. To put it another way, 900 billion is less than our currently yearly deficit.

With an annual deficit of well over $1 trillion... $90 billion in annual cuts (almost all in later years) hardly qualifies as a victory for fiscal conservatives.
I guess it just shows how hopelessly low the political bar really is.

It was a 300 billion dollar yearly deficit in 2006. Which is bad. Since 2007 it's gone up to 1.3 trillion per year.

I know... and now we are calling $90 billion in cuts a victory for hard line fiscal conservatives. It's a joke.
Now in fairness I think it is economic suicide to make any significant cuts this year but these cowards (all of them) not using this as a opportunity to completely revamp the tax code and put together a real long term budget plan is just unforgiveable.

There are reasons why the leftists and the leftist media constantly try to slam the Tea Party.
Its because they are a threat to the cash cows of their party. Same goes for the Republicans.

Apparently Moody's was always going to downgrade our credit rating unless we cut something like 8-9 Trillion from the budget. The debt ceiling had nothing to do with it.
Its incredible how these politicians can lie and scheme and create these "solutions" to serious problems and think that they can just have their media people parrot some propaganda and that everything will be okay. The DOW fell today. That sure sounds like instilled confidence, doesn't it? Yikes.
It's looking more and more like the Tea Party has been right all along and that these scum bag politicians have been just trying to keep a hold onto their cash cows. Incredible.

It's great that the Tea Party folk are highlighting the subject and drawing attention to it but if they continue to absolutely say no to everything, they risk alienating themselves and forcing Boner to start working with the Ds to get the votes he needs.
Boner surely values his position and influence over a group in individuals he sees as back-stabbing obstructionists.

It seemed like that was involved and not completely off the table. I think I saw 1:1 non-defense:defense cuts and something about if the new committee doesn't find the appropriate cuts, it could cut into defense somehow. It was really confusing and I didn't get it all but it seemed like the realization was there and people were going after it. It's the prized possession for some but it'll topple in due time.

I don't think so. The $900 billion comes from "domestic discretionary", which ignores the military, Medicare/Medicaid, and Social Security. You know, the 800 lb gorilla.

I'm not sure how $20-something billion in cuts for 2012 is anything to get excited about, especially since Boehner's 2011 CR compromise this spring was supposed to cut $30-something billion. This Prez and Congress love the 10-yr forecasts since it lets them claim large cuts, but nothing actually occurs until 2014 once they're kicked out of office.
Basically, this is a clean debt ceiling increase and the largest in history. Since little-O entered the White House annual deficits have spiked over $1tril/yr plus over $2tril/yr in counterfeited money has been produced by the Fed Reserve. The total deficit spending is over $3tril/yr and will not change until little-O and this Congress are replaced.
If there was any real concern about National debt/deficit, Congress would be aiming for $1tril/yr in deficit reductions minimum with a 'black' budget as the goal, as well as dissolve the Fed Reserve's balance sheet and practice of counterfeiting. Starting with $4tril over 10yrs in spending cuts, as well as start liquidating the Fed's assets, is a good first step that should have gone with a debt ceiling increase. After that (the 2012 budget due in under 60days), discussions of entitlement programs and tax code can cover the remaining $6-12tril over 10yrs in deficit reduction.

I was waiting for Coast2coastAM to come on, and Michael Savage was doing a segment on the Tea Party, and stated the "Tea Party Express" is the "real grass roots" movement, and the other is the co-opted faux movement.
Was interesting, I just haven't put more time into digging into that nugget of information.
I do know that when I went to some of the first tea party rallies "here", I noted that it was "a ClearChannel event". It was just a manufactured event.
Just something to keep in mind, or dig into. Just wanted to share that information.

Wasn't just them. This voting divide wasn't along party lines, but the Progressives + GOP voting yes while those representing the people -Demos and Tea- voting against. Only good thing about this vote is it draws a clear line, just like the Patriot act did, between America's problem ('yes' votes) and the solution ('no' votes).

We've seen the polls showing a shift in Americans' views of inequality and their support of higher taxes for the wealthiest as part of a debt-reduction package. We've seen the accelerating moderation on marriage equality and marijuana. We've noticed the Tea Party's further alienation of minority voters, and now, with the Cain circus, possible intensification of the gender gap. We've noticed that increasing numbers of voters, including independents, regard the GOP as potentially sabotaging the economy purely in order to defeat Obama. Now we are seeing the effect of all this in actual elections. And the GOP primary campaign has also underlined just how marginal, ideological and inexperienced many of the presidential candidates are. A party that gives a motivational speaker ten times the support of a two-term governor of Utah, re-elected with 84 percent of the vote, with strong bipartisan credentials and an even stronger tax reform plan ... well, it's a party in free-fall that also doesn't understand that it is.
Look at PPP's polling in Ohio right now:
Obama continues to suffer from poor approval ratings in Ohio with only 41% of voters approving of him to 49% who disapprove. But voters don't seem to consider any of his opponents to be viable alternatives ... On our weekend poll, which got the final result of Issue 2 correct to within a point, Obama led all of his Republican opponents in the state by margins ranging from 9-17 points.
Obama led Mitt Romney 50-41 on our poll. He was up 11 points on Herman Cain at 50-39, 13 on Newt Gingrich at 51-38, 14 on Ron Paul at 50-36, 14 on Michele Bachmann at 51-37 and a whooping 17 points on Rick Perry at 53-36. It used to be Sarah Palin's numbers that we compared to Barry Goldwater, but Perry's deficit would represent the largest Republican defeat in Ohio since 1964.
For this party, Herman Cain is the perfect nominee (since Palin simply couldn't overcome her lies and pathologies). Because it is increasingly clear he is the master of complete denial of reality and has no actual experience in any public office.

It's not Cain's lack of experience that bothers me, it's his thirst for power that bothers me. I am tired of having these egomaniacs running things.
Blah - just makes me feel dirty.

And we all know the Libertarians own those two events. All you have to do is listen to them. I sometimes think that they think they wrote the damn things. I think they own the flag, too. Oh, and the Statue of Liberty... wait. I don't think they want that one. That's got all that "Bring me your tired, hungry and poor" **** going on. That's the last thing they want. ;D
The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Emma Lazarus, 1883
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breath free" is inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty and demonstrates the promise that freedom in America holds for immigrants from around the world. The Statue of Liberty is a beacon of hope and freedom for all people, knowing that with hard work and due diligence, they too can escape poverty and oppression and achieve success, afforded by the principles of the Constitution of the United States of America, which limits the overreach and power of government.
How dare you attempt to defame the Statue of Liberty with your Socialist rhetoric. You should be ashamed.

[Y]esterday’s elections were a rejection of a party that’s been defined for the past few months by Michelle Bachman, Ron Paul, and Herman Cain. So can Democrats take some hope from last night’s results? Provisionally; sort of. If Barack Obama can make next year’s election a choice between his ineffectual moderation and the Republicans’ wacked-out lunacy, the Democrats should do well. If next year’s election is a referendum on his stewardship of the economy—and none of yesterday’s contests were anything close to that—the Democrats will likely get clobbered. It’s clear that Americans have had it with Republican extremism. Whether that will be a decisive issue in 2012 is not yet apparent.

I think a lot of people support "Republican Extremism" in theory but then when it hits practical implementation, they vote with their wallets. People are still electing the guy that promises them the most.
That sounds so scary and dangerous to our future.
